Adapting Leadership for the Modern Workforce In this episode, Michael D. Levitt and Dr. Greg Giuliano explore the evolution of leadership from a rigid, top-down approach to a more coaching-driven model. Greg highlights the shift in workplace dynamics, where employees now seek empathetic, adaptable, and empowering leaders. Using the analogy of a soccer coach, he illustrates how successful organizations recognize that leaders should set the vision, but the team is responsible for delivering results. The Power of Empathy and Curiosity in Leadership Michael and Greg discuss the critical role of empathy and curiosity, especially in times of change. Michael shares his experience transforming a clinic with high turnover into a thriving workplace by truly understanding his team's needs. Greg reinforces that great leaders create environments where people are motivated to give their best—not out of obligation but because they feel valued. They also discuss the importance of allowing employees to operate in their “sweet spot” and equipping them with the necessary resources to succeed. Leveraging Summer Students to Strengthen Work Culture The conversation shifts to the benefits of integrating summer students into an organization. Michael underscores that fostering a strong workplace culture isn't just about productivity—it's about creating an environment where employees feel appreciated and supported, which naturally leads to retention and attraction of top talent. He emphasizes that when leaders prioritize employee well-being, they build a workplace where people want to stay and grow. Fostering Positive Team Culture as Leaders Greg emphasizes that leaders can shape positive team cultures, even within large organizations. Leaders can drive engagement and retention by setting clear expectations, establishing healthy boundaries, and prioritizing team well-being. He introduces the mindset of "serving to lead"—a principle inspired by the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst—highlighting that leadership isn't about authority but creating the conditions for teams to thrive. Building Strong Teams Through Training and Fun Michael shares a powerful story from his time in insurance automation software, where an overlooked installation department wholly transformed under exemplary leadership. The department became a well-respected, high-performing unit through quarterly training sessions and team-building activities. Their teamwork and strategic execution were so impactful that they were handpicked for a significant project in New Orleans, ultimately earning glowing client recommendations. This story reinforces that investing in team culture leads to stronger performance and long-term success. The Connection Between Therapy and Team Building Greg and Michael discuss the parallels between therapy and leadership, emphasizing the importance of emotional intelligence in building resilient teams. With his background in therapy and coaching, Greg explains how leaders who nurture personal connections within their teams create stronger, more engaged workplaces. They conclude that self-awareness and empathy are non-negotiable skills for today's leaders. Greg's Work at Ultra Leadership To wrap up, Greg shares insights into his work at Ultra Leadership, where he provides executive coaching, team development, and change management consulting. Dr. Greg Giuliano is an advisor and executive coach to senior leaders and teams worldwide. He founded GA | Ultra Leadership, designing leadership and team development strategies that drive organizational transformation. He aims to help leaders and teams grow their capacity to enable positive disruption for markets, organizations, teams, and individuals. Greg is the author of three #1 Amazon Bestsellers—Coaching for (a) Change (2024), The Next Normal (2022), and Ultra Leadership (2016)—as well as The Hero's Journey (2014). Braving Business: Tales of Entrepreneurial Resilience and Courage in the Face of Adversity
In episode 3 of season 4 of Braving Business, we sit down with Kat Weaver, a 2x accidental entrepreneur who turned crisis into opportunity—twice. Kat launched her first business from a college dorm room, built it into a successful company, then faced a devastating fire that could have ended everything. Instead of giving up, she used storytelling to win 22 of 23 pitch competitions, secure six figures in funding, and eventually sell the business for a successful exit—but not before nearly losing the deal four times. After a viral FedEx video featuring her pitch tips, Kat realized she had a gift for helping others. That's when she founded Power to Pitch, a company that helps early-stage founders perfect their pitch, land investors, and secure funding faster. Now, she's on a mission to help founders raise $100 million in grants and venture capital—and she's well on her way.In this conversation, Kat shares:How losing everything to a fire transformed the way she thinks about storytelling in business. The most common mistakes founders make when pitching—and how to fix them. Why negotiation is everything—and how to turn a “no” into a “yes.”What VCs are really looking for when they hear a pitch (and what they secretly hate). The mindset shift that took her from college entrepreneur to expert in securing funding.Kat's tennis background taught her grit and sacrifice, and she applies that same relentless energy to helping founders win in the fundraising game.Key Takeaways:Every founder needs a great story—investors don't just buy into numbers, they buy into vision.Resilience is everything in entrepreneurship—persistence separates those who raise capital from those who don't.Everything is negotiable—you just have to know how to frame the conversation.Connect with Kat Weaver:LinkedIn: Kat WeaverContact Us: Visit www.bravingbusiness.com for more information, resources, and episodes.Kat's entrepreneurial journey is proof that storytelling isn't just important—it's the difference between securing funding and getting overlooked. Tune in to hear her secrets to winning pitches, raising capital, and turning setbacks into success.
Two weeks after the Inauguration of Donald Trump, Elon Musk tweeted, “We spent the weekend feeding USAID into a wood chipper.” Musk was referring to the Agency for International Development, an agency which supports global health and economic development, and which has saved millions of lives around the world. “A viper's nest of radical-left lunatics,” Musk called it. U.S.A.I.D.'s funding is authorized by Congress, and its work is a crucial element of American soft power. DOGE has decimated the agency with cuts so sudden and precipitous that federal workers stationed in conflict zones were stranded without safe passage home, as their own government publicly maligned them for alleged fraud and corruption. Courts have blocked aspects of the federal purge of U.S.A.I.D., but it's not clear if workers can be rehired and contracts restarted, or whether the damage is done. In January, 2022, Atul Gawande, a surgeon and leading public health expert who has written for The New Yorker since 1998, was sworn in as assistant administrator for global health at U.S.A.I.D. He resigned as the new administration came to power, and is watching in shock as Trump and Musk make U.S.A.I.D. a guinea pig for the government-wide purge now under way. U.S.A.I.D. was, he admits, a soft target for MAGA—helping people in faraway countries. Gawande calls U.S.A.I.D. “America at its best.” But with Trump and Musk, “there's a different world view at play here,” he says. “Power is what matters, not impact.” Learn about your ad choices: dovetail.prx.org/ad-choices

Power can be rapidly stripped away from individuals, or it can be taken away layer by layer. Not everyone makes it out of a cult, but life can become particularly meaningful when they do. A new purpose can arise for the person, more substantial than the grasp of mind control. Leaving an authoritarian cult is the experience that Dr. Debbie Haski-Leventhal, PhD, shared with us on this episode of Cult Conversations: The Influence Continuum. She found this meaning after a period of healing and self-exploration when she left the Kabbalah Centre. Her parents brought her into it when she was only five years old. She devoted her life to it as a chevre (hand-picked servants of Philip and Karen Berg, its leaders). She was able to escape by age nineteen. Debbie currently describes her role as “a professor of purpose and impact”, working with individuals and companies to make lives more meaningful. She crafted her book after decades of exploring what pro-social and satisfying behaviors bring to life. Her book is both inspirational and practical, laying out pointers from the model she developed. She believes strongly in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and works with business leaders to better utilize their human resources into meaning on both an individual and group basis. I must say, I loved this book, listened to it as an audiobook, and then bought it as a paperback and read it. It is a must-read book, in my opinion, for all survivors of mind control cults. It is an inspiration! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
On this episode of Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different, we explore the transformative potential of intellectual capital (IC) with our fellow Pirate Eddie Yoon. Intellectual Capital (IC) is a valuable yet often overlooked asset, which can help you to shift from being knowledge workers to creator capitalists. We also discuss the challenges of making complex ideas accessible and highlights the importance of diagnostics in leveraging IC, and go into the concept of "lenses," or perspectives, that can illuminate new opportunities. This episode serves as a call to action for individuals to recognize and monetize their unique knowledge, fostering innovation and personal growth. You're listening to Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different. We are the real dialogue podcast for people with a different mind. So get your mind in a different place, and hey ho, let's go. The Essence of Intellectual Capital Christopher opens the discussion by talking about how intellectual capital is often an underappreciated asset. Intellectual capital is not just for academics or certified experts; it is an asset that everyone possesses. Many individuals possess a wealth of knowledge accumulated over their careers, yet they fail to recognize its potential value. The key is understanding how to package and monetize this knowledge effectively. Eddie Yoon elaborates on this point, discussing the transition from being a knowledge worker to becoming a creator capitalist. A knowledge worker typically replicates existing knowledge, while a creator capitalist actively creates new knowledge and value. This shift is crucial in a rapidly changing job market, especially with the rise of artificial intelligence and automation, which threatens many traditional jobs. The Importance of Diagnostics Another key point in their discussion is the role of diagnostics in understanding and leveraging intellectual capital. Eddie Yoon notes that many industries, particularly healthcare and fitness, utilize diagnostic tests to establish baselines and measure progress. He argues that this practice should be more widely adopted in other fields, including consulting and sales. Eddie cites the historical context of management consulting, referencing Marvin Bower and James O. McKinsey, who emphasized the importance of accounting as a diagnostic tool for financial health. Just as doctors assess patients' health through tests, businesses should evaluate their performance through similar diagnostics to identify areas for improvement. The Power of Lenses The conversation then shifts to the concept of "lenses"—the perspectives through which we view our ideas and experiences. Eddie Yoon reflects on how writing and teaching have helped him develop a clearer understanding of category design, a concept he believes is crucial for business success. Christopher adds to this by discussing the various types of lenses we encounter in life, using the metaphor of prescription glasses. Just as different lenses can enhance our vision, new perspectives can illuminate previously unseen opportunities. He likens this to using a microscope or telescope, which allows us to see details or distant objects that are otherwise obscured. Happy International Women's Month!
In this episode we interview D. Óg, an Irish Republican and Irish language activist who works with Iskra Books, and their Irish language imprint Bradán Feasa. In this discussion we talk about the Iskra Books publication The Dark: Selected Writings of Brendan Hughes. Hughes, was a former Irish Republican Army volunteer, political prisoner, and Hunger Striker. And while he is a very well known figure within Irish Republican circles and among those who have studied the provisional IRA, some folks may also have become introduced to him through the book and the Fx/Hulu series Say Nothing. In this episode I talk to D a bit about several of The Dark's writings, about the politics of Brendan Hughes, his internationalism, his solidarity with Palestinians, and his lifelong commitment to a 32 county socialist Irish Republic. Along the way we talk about Hughes' response to the so-called Good Friday Agreement, or has Hughes called it “Got F*ck All,” his critiques of the political trajectory of Sinn Féin, and more. We highly recommend you check out this book from the comrades at Iskra Books. As with all their work there is a free pdf version you can download from there website, so do that to check it out, but also I really recommend ordering yourself a physical copy to support their work and to add this beautiful book to your collection. I also just want to mention that if you're interested in conversations about counterinsurgency, Orisanmi Burton and I have released part one of a two part conversation on Frank Kitson and his book Low Intensity Operations, for a brief period Kitson was in charge of the counterrevolutionary campaign against the IRA, as well as counterrevolutionary wars in Kenya against the Mau Mau, and in Malaya. We will link that in the show notes along with some other discussions we've had about Ireland and Irish revolutionary politics over the years. And part two of my conversation with Orisanmi Burton about Kitson's Low Intensity Operations will be this coming Friday at 10 AM Eastern Time (US) on our YouTube channel. A link to that will be in the show notes as well. In addition, we also have a conversation with Mark Neocleous tomorrow Tuesday the 18th at 12:30 PM ET on his new book Pacification: Social War and the Power of Police, and one on Thursday with James Kilgore the new zine he's put together with Vic Liu on Lessons in Global Solidarity. In his talk entitled, "Spiritual Treasures" given in 2019, President Nelson stated, "The heavens are.. open to women who are endowed with God's power flowing from their priesthood covenants." We might read this and wonder, how? As women, we sincerely want to understand how we can better draw upon God's power. And perhaps, we'd like to know what we might be misunderstanding and where we can grow. Today's guest, Kaylen Nelson, has wondered this question as well. In this episode, she comes studying President Emily Belle Freeman's "Live Up to Your Privileges" and the Doctrine and Covenants section 25 as a basis to this discussion. Kaylen is a contributor to the magnify podcast, a mom, and a visiting instructor at the BYU religion faculty. President Nelson's "Spiritual Treasures" President Freeman's "Live Up to Your Privileges" Elder Anderson's quote: "We sometimes overly associate the power of the priesthood with men in the Church. The priesthood is the power and authority of God given for the salvation and blessing of all—men, women, and children. A man may open the drapes so the warm sunlight comes into the room, but the man does not own the sun or the light or the warmth it brings. The blessings of the priesthood are infinitely greater than the one who is asked to administer the gift." - Power in the Priesthood Sheri Dew's quote: “What does it mean to have access to priesthood power? It means that we can receive revelation, be blessed and aided by the ministering of angels, learn to part the veil that separates us from our Heavenly Father, be strengthened to resist temptation, be protected, and be enlightened, and made smarter than we are—all without any mortal intermediary.” - Women and the Priesthood Follow us on Instagram! As we continue our journey through the Gospel of John, we dive into chapters 18 and 19, walking through the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus as we approach Easter. This season of Lent invites us to engage deeply with a familiar yet profoundly challenging story—the suffering of Christ. It’s easy to skip ahead to the resurrection, but there is so much to learn in these moments of Jesus’ trial, betrayal, and ultimate sacrifice. Key Themes Covered: Human Struggle with Pain & Suffering – As humans, we often avoid pain—whether our own or others’. How do we sit in the reality of Jesus’ suffering without looking away? Jesus & Pilate: A Clash of Power – Jesus stands firm in divine authority, while Pilate sways under pressure. What does true power look like? Pilate’s Search for Truth – When Pilate asks, “What is truth?” is he dismissive or genuinely searching? How does his question reflect modern struggles with truth and authority? Key Verses: John 18:36 – "My kingdom is not of this world." John 19:10-11 – "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above." Matthew 28:18 – "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." Philippians 2:9-11 – "Therefore God exalted him to the highest place...that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow." Takeaways: This week, sit with John 18-19 and ask God to reveal areas in your heart where you struggle to surrender to His authority. Reflect on what it means to have spiritual authority through Christ—how can you walk in power, love, and self-discipline? As Easter approaches, let’s not rush past the cross. Let’s sit with the reality of Jesus’ suffering and allow it to deepen our love for Him. Jesus’ power is unshakable, rooted in the truth of who He is. Unlike the fleeting power structures of the world, His authority stands firm. Whatever you are facing today, know that His power, love, and sovereignty are over it all. If you're looking to boost your income using Instagram Stories, this episode is for you! Today's episode is a returning favorite—Sara McDaniel from Simply Southern Cottage! Sara is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to Instagram Stories, and today, she's giving us her best tips on how to use Stories effectively, grow your audience, and increase your income. https://creativesonfirepodcast.com/episode187 The Power of Instagram Stories Instagram Stories are one of the best ways to connect with your audience, build trust, and drive sales. But is there a secret formula for success? According to Sara, it comes down to showing up consistently, being real, and engaging with your followers. She's been using Instagram for over seven years, and her approach is simple yet effective. Let's break it down. How Sara Uses Instagram Stories to Grow Her Brand Sara's strategy is based on authenticity and consistency. Here's how she structures her daily Stories: She Starts the Day with a Greeting: Every morning, Sarah sets expectations for her audience by sharing what's coming up that day. This helps keep people engaged and eager to follow along. She Shares Real-Time, Everyday Moments: Her content isn't staged—it's real-life storytelling that makes her audience feel like they're right there with her. Whether it's pulling a shopping cart out of a creek or overseeing a new real estate project, Sarah takes followers behind the scenes. She Mixes in Affiliate and Promotional Content Organically: About 20% of her content is focused on affiliate links, brand partnerships, or promotions. She sprinkles in these offers between her everyday updates to keep the balance natural and engaging. She Uses a Simple Posting Schedule: 7:30 AM - Posts a reel, carousel, or static post. 9:00-10:00 AM - Starts Stories for the day. Throughout the Day - Updates with real-time events, behind-the-scenes content, and occasional promotions. 6:00 PM - Wraps up the day's content. How to Make Your Instagram Stories More Engaging One of Sara's top tips for boosting engagement is talking directly to your audience. Instead of saying “Hey guys!” or “Hey y'all,” she recommends speaking to one person and looking into the camera. Here are a few more engagement hacks she swears by: ✅ Use the Poll and Question Stickers – These keep people interacting with your content. ✅ Encourage Direct Messages (DMs) – Instagram prioritizes Stories that spark DMs, so ask followers to reply instead of just using a question box. ✅ Turn on Story Notifications – Teach your audience how to get notified when you post so they never miss an update. The Instagram Stories Selling Formula Sara has been able to turn Instagram Stories into a profitable revenue stream by integrating affiliate links, brand deals, and strategic content placement. How Much Can You Make Selling in Stories? Affiliate income varies, but it can be a sustainable revenue stream when done consistently. Sara's advice? Only promote products you genuinely love. Your audience trusts you, and that trust translates into conversions. Is There a “Right” Way to Post Stories? Some creators say that letting your Stories reset to zero views for 24 hours once a week can help increase overall engagement. Sara typically does this on Sundays to reset and recharge. To restart her Story cycle, she begins with a text-heavy slide that asks followers to reply in her DMs. This signals Instagram that her Stories are engaging, which helps boost her reach. Final Tips for Selling in Stories Be consistent – Show up every day (or most days) to keep your audience engaged. Batch content when possible – Pre-recording saves time and reduces stress. Test different approaches – Try a mix of storytelling, product promotions, and engagement strategies to see what resonates best. Don't overthink it! – Stories are meant to be casual and fun. Treat them like a conversation with a friend. Want to Learn Even More? Real Estate Investing With Jay Conner, The Private Money Authority
***Guest AppearanceCredits to:https://www.youtube.com/@jerryscarlato "Becoming Resilient, Private Lending, and Your Money Mindset with Jay Conner"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-w-a6JPweUk&t=96sReal estate investing often requires substantial capital, and navigating the funding landscape can be daunting for both seasoned and new investors. In the recent episode of the Raising Private Money podcast, Jay Conner joins Jerry Scarlato in the Good Wolf Project podcast where they delve into the nuances of raising private money—a strategy that can redefine your approach to real estate investments. Understanding the Difference: Hard Money vs. Private MoneyIn the world of real estate, financing options are plentiful but can often be confusing. Jay Conner explains a common misunderstanding between hard money and private money. Hard money typically comes from brokers who pool and lend funds from individual investors, charging high interest rates and fees. This traditional route involves jumping through numerous hoops, including credit checks and financial disclosures, which can be time-consuming.Conversely, private money is a more direct transaction, where a real estate investor borrows money from an individual, cutting out the middleman. Here, the investor sets the terms, interest rates, and payment schedules, providing a more flexible and tailored financing option. This approach eliminates the need for borrowing from traditional banks or hard money lenders, offering more autonomy and speed in closing deals.Navigating the Challenges with a Resilient MindsetReal estate investing is not without its hurdles. During the conversation, Jerry and Jay highlight the importance of resilience when facing financial setbacks. Jay shares his experience during the 2008 financial crisis when he unexpectedly lost his line of credit with a local bank. This pivotal moment pushed him towards private lending, leading to a successful reevaluation and expansion of his business model. The key to overcoming challenges is adopting a proactive mindset. Rather than seeing obstacles as insurmountable problems, Jay emphasizes responding constructively and connecting with the right people who can facilitate solutions. This mindset shift from "victim" to "victor" is essential for navigating the volatile waters of real estate investing. The Power of Community and MentorshipAnother critical element of success in real estate investing is surrounding oneself with like-minded individuals and mentors. Jerry and Jay underscore the transformative impact of joining mastermind groups and engaging in communities that foster collaboration and learning. Jay recounts how mastermind groups have expedited his success by providing access to a wealth of experience and insights from industry peers.Learning from seasoned investors and sharing experiences can significantly decrease the learning curve, preventing costly mistakes and leading to more informed decision-making. As Jay aptly puts it, "What got you here today will not get you there tomorrow."Building a Sustainable Strategy for Raising Private MoneyTo successfully raise private money, Jay advises a strategic approach focused on education and relationship-building. By teaching potential lenders about the benefits of private lending and offering them a secure and appealing investment opportunity, investors can attract capital without resorting to high-pressure sales tactics. He demonstrates the power of seamless communication and structured programs in cultivating a network of private lenders eager to invest.Prospective investors can start small by hosting informational luncheons or one-on-one meetings to share insights about private lending programs. Imagine waking up one day to find that everything around you—groceries, gas, housing—costs significantly more than it did yesterday. Your savings, your income, and everything you've worked hard to build are suddenly worth less in terms of purchasing power. This is the harsh reality of inflation, a silent wealth destroyer that erodes the value of your money over time. That's exactly why we sat down with Rich Checkan, an expert in precious metals, to uncover the truth about gold as the ultimate wealth insurance. https://www.youtube.com/live/GEIorn2GMJ0 If you've ever wondered how to protect your financial future against inflation, economic downturns, and government overreach, this is the conversation you need to hear. Why Gold Matters Now More Than EverGold as the Ultimate Wealth InsuranceGold is Money, Not Just an InvestmentWhy Governments and Central Banks Hoard GoldGold as an Inflation ShieldHow Infinite Banking Enhances Gold OwnershipHow to Buy and Store Gold the Right WayHow Much Gold Should You Own?The Power of Gold and Infinite Banking for Wealth ProtectionGold Price and the U.S. Money SupplyBook A Strategy Call Why Gold Matters Now More Than Ever In today's uncertain economic climate, many people focus solely on stocks, bonds, and real estate, overlooking one of the most time-tested and reliable assets—gold. Unlike paper currency, which loses value due to inflation, gold retains purchasing power, offering stability when other investments fail. In this article, we'll break down the key insights from our conversation with Rich Checkan, exploring why gold is not just an investment but a financial insurance policy. You'll learn: Why gold has been the go-to store of value for centuries How it protects your wealth against inflation and economic crises The best ways to buy and store gold How gold and Infinite Banking work together to build liquidity and long-term wealth Practical steps you can take today to integrate gold into your wealth strategy If you're serious about taking control of your financial future, keep reading. Gold as the Ultimate Wealth Insurance Gold is Money, Not Just an Investment One of the biggest misconceptions about gold is that it's just another commodity. The truth? Gold has been used as real money for thousands of years. Unlike fiat currencies, which governments print at will, gold cannot be artificially created. It's scarce, tangible, and universally recognized as a store of value. Rich Checkan explained that gold serves as a hedge against inflation because its value rises when paper money loses purchasing power. Unlike the U.S. dollar, which has lost over 98% of its value since the creation of the Federal Reserve, gold has maintained its purchasing power. A century ago, an ounce of gold could buy a quality suit, and today, it still can. Why Governments and Central Banks Hoard Gold Ever wonder why central banks around the world continue to stockpile gold? If gold was just another asset, why would the most powerful financial institutions be accumulating it? The answer is simple: gold is the ultimate form of money. Rich highlighted that countries like China, Russia, and India have been increasing their gold reserves to reduce dependence on the U.S. dollar. This move signals a shift away from fiat currency dominance and an acknowledgment that gold is a necessary safeguard against economic uncertainty. Gold as an Inflation Shield Inflation is silently eroding the purchasing power of your savings. When governments print money excessively, the value of each dollar declines, making everything more expensive—from groceries to housing. Gold, on the other hand, maintains its value because it's not tied to any single economy or government policy. Rich emphasized that holding gold is like having an insurance policy against inflation. It doesn't rely on the performance of the stock market or interest rates. Instead,
Parenting is an emotional rollercoaster – filled with moments of joy, stress, and everything in between. But what if there was a scientific way to understand and navigate these emotions more effectively? In a compelling new podcast episode, Patrick Ney, Lead Trainer at All About Parenting, sits down with Dr. George S. Thompson to explore the fascinating world of polyvagal theory and its profound impact on child development. This conversation is a must-listen for parents, educators, and anyone looking to deepen their understanding of human connection. Dr. Thompson, co-author of Polyvagal Theory and the Developing Child (Norton, 2021) unpacks the science behind how our nervous systems shape our emotions, behaviors, and relationships from birth to adulthood. What You'll Discover in This Episode The Science Behind Connection – Dr. Thompson explains how our nervous system constantly scans for safety and threat, influencing everything from our stress levels to our ability to bond with others. Why Your Child Looks at You for Reassurance – Ever noticed your child checking your face when they're unsure? That's social referencing in action. Dr. Thompson breaks down why parental expressions and tone of voice play a crucial role in emotional regulation. Understanding the Three States of the Nervous System – Calm and connected, fight-or-flight, and shutdown – these three states dictate how we react to the world. Learn how to recognize them and respond in ways that foster security and resilience in children. The Power of Co-Regulation – As parents, our nervous systems influence our children's emotional states. Dr. Thompson shares practical ways to use this knowledge to create a more peaceful and connected home environment. Debunking Polyvagal Theory Myths – Some skeptics claim polyvagal theory lacks scientific backing. Dr. Thompson sets the record straight, drawing on decades of research and clinical application. Why This Episode Matters Many parenting theories focus on discipline, communication, or routines – but few address the biological foundation of emotional security. Polyvagal theory offers a groundbreaking perspective: that a child's ability to learn, connect, and regulate emotions depends on their sense of safety at a physiological level. This episode dives deep into how this works, offering practical tools that every parent can apply. Dr. Thompson also shares powerful real-life examples, including an in-depth discussion of a child navigating a residential care program. Through this case study, he illustrates how understanding the nervous system can transform how we support children, especially those who have experienced trauma. A Conversation You Won't Want to Miss Patrick Ney brings his own parenting experiences into the mix, making this discussion both insightful and relatable. Whether you're new to polyvagal theory or already familiar with it, this episode will leave you with a new appreciation for how our nervous systems shape our lives. Recorded: August 2020 Key Takeaways: The Path to Sales Success: David's journey into sales highlighted the importance of intentionality and learning from early failures. His experience underscored the necessity of structured training and development in sales. Sales as a Professional Sport: Treating a sales career like that of a professional athlete, dedicating time to practice, continuous learning, and skill refinement, is crucial for sustained success. Breaking Sales Stereotypes: Sales is often misunderstood as an “expensive dark art.” Leaders must see beyond outdated perceptions and recognize the value of structured, professional selling. The Power of Mentorship: Learning from great leaders, and understanding the lessons from ineffective ones, can shape a successful sales career. David shares impactful mentorship experiences that influenced his growth. Business Acumen for Sales Success: Sales leaders must ensure their teams understand finance, operations, marketing, and legal aspects to be effective beyond just the sales process. Customer-Centric Selling: Sales isn't the start or end of the customer journey, it's a part of a broader experience. Leaders should foster a customer-first mindset across the organization. Effective Sales Onboarding: The best onboarding programs prioritize organizational understanding, relationship-building, and the sales process before diving into product knowledge. Enterprise Sales Mastery: Success in enterprise sales requires experience in internal negotiations, multi-threading, stakeholder management, and long sales cycles. Recruiting Top Enterprise Sales Talent: Hiring should focus on candidates with extensive enterprise experience or deep domain expertise. Key attributes include curiosity, relationship-building, and a willingness to challenge the status quo. The Habits of High-Performing Salespeople: Self-motivation, thorough research, problem-solving, planning, and organization are critical to sales excellence. The Daily Discipline of Prospecting: Even with large deals in progress, maintaining account coverage and prospecting daily prevents commoditization. Predicting Sales Success Early: The first 30-60 days of a new hire often indicate future success. Engagement, learning, and pipeline-building should be closely monitored. Always Be Recruiting: Sales leaders should proactively build a bench of candidates to avoid reactive hiring, as vacant sales roles are costly. Pre-Onboarding for Faster Ramp-Up: Sharing territory lists and facilitating early relationship-building can accelerate a new hire's productivity. Internal Alignment is Crucial: Enterprise sales success depends on preparation and alignment among all internal stakeholders. Sales should be treated like a well-rehearsed concert. Leveraging Partners for Success: Partners play a vital role in enterprise sales. Engaging them early and aligning with their goals enhances collaboration. The Infinite Game in Sales: A long-term mindset focused on relationships, brand-building, and collaboration leads to sustained success, rather than short-term wins. From Transactions to Relationships: The best salespeople prioritize lifetime customer value over one-off deals, genuinely seeking to help their clients. Managing the Challenges of a New Role: New sales hires should pace themselves, focus on incremental growth, and redefine what success looks like in the early days. The Role of Sales Managers: Managers must understand individual team members' needs and provide support in today's changing sales landscape. Structured 120-Day Onboarding: A well-planned onboarding roadmap should sequence learning appropriately, build foundational knowledge, and provide clear performance metrics. First Impressions Matter: New hires evaluate their organization and leaders early on. Providing strong support, feedback, and guidance is essential to retaining top talent. Effective Sales Leadership: Great sales managers hire strong talent, support their teams, and remove obstacles rather than micromanage or rescue struggling reps. Coaching Through Experience: Sales leaders should let reps lead customer meetings and learn through experience rather than taking over. Rethinking Traditional Marketing: Instead of ineffective traditional approaches, businesses should focus on a strong website aligned with customer pain points and leverage user-generated content.
