Colin Stranahan's commitment to music clicked one day on the football field when he injured another player. Even though he was a good football player, so good he was being courted by high school recruiters, it was in that moment that he decided he wanted to do something with his life that helped people, not hurt them. Born into a family of musicians and music-lovers, drumming was always there, waiting patiently for him to answer the calling. In this conversation Colin shares the many ups and downs of his journey: the blessings and the challenges and the mindset that he adopts on the days when the negativity tries to take over. You'll possibly hear me choking up a few times, being moved by the realization that Colin is a living, breathing example that we are the only people who have any business defining what the truth is for us. The only time other people have power over us and our ideas are when we give them that power. The idea of that is so beautiful and so profound and so simple that I've been floating on clouds holding that in my heart since I had this call. Possibly because I've given power away for most of my life and didn't claim it until my 30s. Possibly because it's liberating. Whatever it is, I hope you listen to this and really get it: you get to define what the truth is for you. Follow Colin on Instagram @colinstranahan and check out his website: colinstranahanmusic.com. Jamie Davis is no stranger to demons. With an upbringing that could at best be called unconventional, at worst be called horrific, she has long suffered depression and panic attacks. Through everything, she's known that she wanted to create art. This candid conversation talks about going from the darkness and despair and walking straight into the fear where her journey to her dreams was waiting on the other side. When you look at Daquan's IG feed (@daquanterrence), you'll immediately notice that there's some grit in the way he sees the world. You'll find him in Las Vegas, camera in hand, shooting his subjects in front of the unique backdrops that Sin City offers. You'll hear through this episode the sounds of the city. I know that I should be asking my subjects to be somewhere quiet, but for Daquan, the sounds of the city just somehow made sense. I hopped on a recorded call with him earlier this month to talk to him about his struggles with mental illness, being a single father and pursuing his dream no matter what challenges or doubts come his way. Welcome to my conversation with one of my very dear friends, Nathan Bock. Nathan grew up in Denver, CO where he started acting at a young age and went on to study acting at NYU. But it wasn't until later in life that he answered the calling of the craft and made some major internal shifts. Listen to this episode as we explore the early years of Nathan's life and the origins of being an actor, how he had to learn to color outside the lines, and our advice to anyone out there who feels like something isn't quite right with their life, but doesn't know how to do anything about it. You can follow Nathan on Twitter & Instagram @nathanbockactor {Note} This is a wee baby podcast and the sound quality is at this time not very good. However, it is my promise to make sure the content delivers insights into the minds of those who are going after their creative purpose. Also, in regards to this specific episode, please note that Nate is a very thoughtful individual and you'll hear the thoughtful pauses through the episode. Relax into the silence, integrate the thoughtful pause into your experience. Chrstina Simone (IG @cflyaway) has been taking pictures for less than a year, but her unique point of view and knack for capturing beautiful images makes her IG feed one that I spend a pretty good amount of time on. Only 21 years old, I was immediately drawn to this old soul when we met working at a call center a little over a year ago. My, how times have changed. In this episode, you'll hear: ~How she knew that photography was her calling ~The thought process that Christina has when fear comes knocking at her door ~And why she stopped comparing herself to others for good You can visit her website at www.cflyaway.studio. I had the pleasure of speaking with Neon Brown, AKA Alex Warzel, shortly after he'd released an album that captivated me in a way that hadn't happened in a while. His fresh take on hip hop and precise composure made for an album that has become a go-to. I spoke with him about the process of making Mr. Freedom, what it was like to work with the guest artists on the album and his take on popular music. Tune in for his fresh takes on music and the state of the world on his monthly show Neon Brown Radio (http://neonbrownradio.libsyn.com/).
