The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. — Romans 6:23 Sin is a topic that many people tend to avoid. Others make light of it. Las Vegas, for example, is sometimes called “Sin City,” and foods that are tasty but not healthy are often called sinfully delicious or decadent. Sadly, a world that chooses not to reflect seriously on sin does so at its own peril. But what is sin? Sin can be described as having two sides, like a coin. One side of sin involves breaking the commands of God. God's commands are in the Bible—for example, the Ten Commandments and various other passages. The other side of sin involves not living up to God's good purpose for our lives. Jesus summarized our purpose when he said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself” (see Mark 12:30-31). Acting contrary to God's commands and failing to love God and others are the two sides of sin. Sometimes these are called sins of commission and sins of omission. But is sin really that serious? After all, we are only human, some would say. But the Bible is clear. “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), and “the wages of sin is death.” But the Bible brings good news as well! While “the wages of sin is death,” “the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”! Lord God, we confess that every day we sin against you in the things we do, and in the things we fail to do. Please forgive us, for Jesus' sake. Amen.

From February 2013, visionary animator Ralph Bakshi joined me to discuss his then-new project Last Days of Coney Island, now streaming on YouTube and Vimeo. The series marked Bakshi's return to gritty 1960s New York, promising raw stories of police corruption, gangs, prostitution, and the decade's disillusionment following the assassinations of John and Robert Kennedy.Bakshi also teased potential new sequences for cult favorites like Wizards, Coonskin, and Heavy Traffic, including a long-imagined Wizards scene where the pacifist hero Peace halts a WWII German-style train full of captives. Caleb Williams, the Chicago Bears, and Ben Johnson, looked like a playoff caliber team last week against the Cowboys.  After allowing 14 points the defense decided that was enough and helped the offense stay on the field by putting up 31 points at home.  After a rocky start the offense looked like many had hoped they would.  Now with the momentum they have they head to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders.  Everyone is anxious to see if this was a one-off game, or if this is what the new Chicago Bears will be looking like in the future.

Las Vegas is in a tourism slump. Hotel occupancy and air travel are down, and many local hospitality employees are experiencing layoffs or cuts in their hours. What's driving this downturn, and can Sin City bounce back?

The Bears are fresh off their first win and now it's on to Vegas. Ruthie and Clay break down what needs to carry over from the Cowboys game, how the offense is finding its rhythm, and why this matchup could be all about protecting the QB, running the ball, and winning on special teams. Plus, how the defense can keep building momentum and why 2–2 at the bye would flip the whole narrative.

“I'm here, just taking a stroll, stretching my legs. These, uh, 300 men are my personal bodyguard.” We watched “300,” directed by Zack Snyder, and we need to hit the gym. A lot has been said of Snyder's hyperfixation on the male form, and we're here to add to that conversation. While this movie may be 117 minutes of fit men strutting around in leather briefs, it's also a pretty fun adaptation of the 1998 graphic novel by Frank Miller— author of Sin City.  Gerard Butler and Lena Headey play a fierce power couple, King and Queen of Sparta, Leonidas and Gorgo. Gerry is giving us manic Brian Blessed in “Flash Gordon” realness, and Lena is serving proto-Cersei Lannister, and she's really holding her own as one of the only female speaking roles in the male-dominated movie. We also get some body beautiful from David Wenham, Michael Fassbender, and Rodrigo Santoro as the diva herself— Xerxes, the mad god-king of Persia with permanent makeup and one too many body piercings. We had our reading glasses on the entire time on patrol for any slip-ups in those banana hammocks, but as far as we could tell, there were no wardrobe malfunctions to speak of. Sammy Vassilev may just have himself an unofficial world record. One of the most unique at that... managing to rack up well over 200 jumps, if you can believe it, in the womb. Son of a world champion Style and Accuracy mom, Sammy was literally born with skydiving in his blood, so there's no doubt in his mind its the path he was always meant to be on.
