A podcast by the writer Sheila Heti featuring all sorts of thoughts, and guest conversations with other people.
It's been only two and a half years since the last episode! Last night I walked to my friend Margaux Williamson's house. We talked outside her studio in the rain, and then inside her studio where the walls were covered with nearly-finished and recently finished paintings. We discuss the catalogue essay that Ben Lerner wrote for her recent show at the McMichael Gallery outside Toronto, and we talk about each other's defence mechanisms a bit. (Don't worry, listener, the mysterious "he" is not you, nor anyone you've ever heard of. And when Margaux says "married," she means "in a committed relationship.")
After a five-year hiatus, my brother David and I have recorded a new episode. Well worth the five-year wait!! We discuss emailing, friendships, and family members.
Sheila Heti wanders alone around Stockholm one night, early in October, the week they did not give out the Nobel Prize for Literature. She is on a promotional visit to promote the Swedish edition of Motherhood. After wandering around, she returns to her hotel. Here is the interview Sheila did with Rachel Cusk which is mentioned in this episode. It is on the podcast Canadaland: http://www.canadalandshow.com/podcast/sheila-heti-and-rachel-cusk-on-why-memoir-is-a-dead-end/ You can email the show at: deskofsheilaheti@gmail.com Please note that the last version of Episode 4 had a number of errors. This is the corrected show.
I am Sheila Heti, and this is my podcast. In this episode, I reflect on touring and talking about my latest novel, Motherhood. Then I speak to my in-laws, therapists Leonard and Laura, about couples therapy. Fifteen-year-old Svee inserts her thoughts. In the background, water skiers fall into the lake.
