    The best foods for sleep Okay so today I’m going to write your shopping list for you! I’ll tell you what you should be buying so that you can sleep better tonight and skip insomnia for good! This article will list some of the best foods for sleep. Everyone loves food right? But are we eating right? I know that I’m really bad at eating healthy. However, I have done plenty of research into what foods we should be eating. Instead of getting a greasy pizza or a Mcdonalds I’m going to tell you the things to add to your shopping list today that will help you sleep better tonight. Sweet sweet melatonin Melatonin is great. It’s the hormone that tells your body it’s time for bed. This is good news for us because there are foods that we can add to the list that contain melatonin! Best of all what we need to be eating more of are fruits. They’re full of melatonin. Cherries, pineapples, bananas, kiwis and oranges are all great sources of melatonin. And they’re tasty to boot! Nuts are another great source of melatonin. These little guys are full of healthy fats and should be a staple on your shopping list anyway. However, we’re specifically talking about sleep here. A handful of almonds or walnuts a couple of hours before bed will help increase your melatonin. Which will then help you sleep better – hooray! Related: Sleep better tonight with these top tips Calm yourself with a cup of tea I can hear it now, legions of British people cheering with relief! We can still have our tea – well not quite. We want to avoid caffeine late at night so I’m afraid the standard English breakfast tea is out. However, chamomile is in! Chamomile is known for it’s calming attributes so it’s the ideal cup to have before bed. Having a cup of tea is a nice touch to your wind down ritual at night and can be a solid indicator it’s time for bed. If like me, you’re not a big tea drinker then a glass of warm milk might be an ideal substitute. It’s all a bit cheesy Any cottage cheese fans out there? Well you’re in luck, this is a food that can help you sleep. Cottage cheese contains the milk protein casein which helps the brain use tryptophan from the dairy product to produce more melatonin. I know that all sounds a bit long winded and science but the bottom line is this – eat cottage cheese, sleep better tonight. And after all that’s what we’re trying to achieve here. Now we just get to eat cheese while we do it. So add these items to your shopping list and see your sleep get better. It may take some time but keep at it! Remember this is a marathon not a sprint.
