Bournemouth's Monday night victory against Fulham came just at the right time for Andoni Iraola. After a period of poor results, he masterminded a 1-0 win over the Cottagers where he home side's performance was impactful, resilient, and resourceful - and as a result of getting the three points, Cherries have elevated themselves to eighth in the Premier League. The victory ensures that European hopes remain for Bournemouth's fans, but it has also coincided with some rumours which suggesting that owner Bill Foley is trying to tie-down the services of our Basque boss for longer, with a contract extension. Having overseen a record equalling season, maybe having tangible evidence of Bournemouth's hunger to "always advance" is just what Andoni needs in order to commit his future to the Cherries. Fulham continue their eighth result in win and loss form as Silva's side fall to a 1-0 defeat away at Bournemouth. A first-minute Semenyo goal saw the Cherries clinch three points in the tight race for Europe. George is joined by Fred Cooper, Avais Malik and Jordan Wilson-Pearce as they look back at an away fixture that was sadly fruitless. They discuss how unpredictable this Fulham side has been this season with this loss coming after such a shocking victory against the league leaders, Liverpool. They debate whether Bournemouth should have been down to ten men after a hard challenge on Andersen from Senesi and they recollect a strange substitution scramble. Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry join Dave Jones to analyse Bournemouth's 1-0 win against Fulham on Monday Night Football. The victory sees Andoni Iraola's side reignite their hopes of securing European football for next season.
Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva are having contrasting fortunes recently, but both are still looking at the possibility of European qualification for their respective sides, and the upcoming match in front of the cameras between the Cherries and the Cottagers *feels* like it could be pivotal. At the same time, both managers have been inexorably linked with the Tottenham Hotspur top job, and with Daniel Levy's patience wearing thin with current Spurs gaffer Ange Postecoglu, the two head coaches that lock horns on Monday night will undoubtedly have more scrutiny cast upon them from the powers that be in North London. Sam and Tom are the Queens Park to discuss our opponents, provide the latest injury news, and predict BOTH sides. Visit the QP at 482 Holdenhurst Rd, Bournemouth, BH8 9AR. After 31 games, AFC Bournemouth are TENTH in the Premier League, and recent form suggests that the chance of European football is ebbing away. A draw at West Ham on Saturday kept us in the mix, but with some difficult games ahead, can it be achieved? And who else will be in the mix? It was Cherries' Brazilian striker Evanilson who excelled again at the weekend, scoring his sixth goal in six games as Bournemouth both took the lead then came from behind to claim a point in an absorbing encounter at the London Stadium. So where does this leave Cherries ahead of their push for Europe? Sam and Tom are at the Queens Park Hotel to work it all out! Visit the QP at 482 Holdenhurst Rd, Bournemouth, BH8 9AR. On Saturday, Bournemouth travel to the London Stadium in need of points as they look to arrest their decline in the Premier League. The Cherries' form has been poor of late, however they face Graham Potter's West Ham United - a side who have similar issues - and whose current form is worse than our own. For Andoni Iraola, the unneeded news of Justin Kluivert's potential absence has thrown a spanner in the works, and with Ryan Christie also out, it will likely be up to star-boy Alex Scott to be the main man as Boscombe look to get their show back on the road. Andoni Iraola is all too aware that Cherries' Premier League form is concerning, and with Ipswich Town around the corner, there might not be a better chance to get the train back on the tracks. The clash against Kieran McKenna's Tractor Boys however will be anything but academic, as they themselves are scrapping, and with the visitors being statistically better on the road this season than at home, they'll be looking to recreate their exploits at Spurs at Dean Court on Wednesday night to give themselves a fighting chance. Their unwavering ethos in playing “the Ipswich way” however might just be the tonic for Andoni, whose side have struggled against disciplined deep-lying sides, so can this be the match to reinvigorate our European push? Sam and Tom preview the game, analyse the opponents, and predict the teams ahead of another monumental clash under the lights at Vitality Stadium. Learn more about your ad choices. Cherries' Quarter Final FA Cup exit on Sunday felty like a microcosm of the season so far - an explosive start followed by a troubling second half. In reality, Bournemouth's recent "dip" has only been a few games, however, with relatively few options on the bench, the side has visibly looked leggy and drained recently. So, why is this? The fatigue is perhaps understandable. In January we were playing with very few senior players, putting in shifts to accrue unlikely points in some crunch clashes, but whilst we achieved in adversity, there is a concern that the knock-on effect of over-working the same players has potentially culminated in our recent patchy spell - where individuals don't look as sharp as they have been previously. Sam and Tom go over the loss to Manchester City, and look forward to the remaining nine games of the campaign in a measured Second Look. Andoni Iraola was at AFC Bournemouth's brand new Performance Centre on Friday, looking forward to a HUGE FA Cup clash against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, knowing that a victory could get Bournemouth back to Wembley in the cup for the first time since 1998. Sam and Tom at the QP to preview Sunday's epic encounter which will see the Citizens desperate to rescue an underwhelming season by getting one over the Cherries once again, but Boscombe will be buoyant after their league victory against Pep's side, so can the home side create history and reach the last four for the first time? Bournemouth's defeat at home to Brentford on Saturday saw Thomas Frank's side fully control the narrative. Whilst Iraola's side have often been the architects of their own demise recently, this time, the Bees were excellent at manipulating the outcome. As a result, they are currently three points behind Iraola's side in the table, and after their 2-1 win at Dean Court, the race for Europe is hotting up. Cherries form has dipped, but why? And how do put it right? Are players burnt out? Have we been found out? Are we losing our rhythm? Have we been concentrating on the cup? Or maybe does Andoni have TOO many options? On Saturday, Cherries will be desperate for three points against the Bees, alas, there's an issue with that, because we have NEVER beaten them in the Premier League! AFC Bournemouth have entered the final ten, and with Cherries sitting ninth in a congested top half of the table, a win could put us sixth. There are a number of reasons why this game is important, including European impetus and FA Cup momentum. However also, the necessity to recover the "lost points" at Spurs, twinned with the need to get the "monkey off our back" of not beating the Bees in the top flight - also enhances this game's importance. So is this our biggest game of the season so far? Sam and Tom are the Queens Park Hotel to look forward to a huge game for Andoni Iraola's men. A point gained? Or two points dropped? Thanks to Andoni Iraola, Bournemouth fans sense the latter. On Sunday, Cherries travelled to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to face the Lilywhites in buoyant mood thanks to the levels of expectation set by our Basque boss. Whilst Bournemouth's Premier League form has been shaky of late, there still remain great expectations for this season, and the pre-match chatter amongst Boscombe fans suggested that this match-up in North London would be pivotal to that. Whilst game ended with a "creditable" 2-2, Cherries fans came away deflated - a feeling that is, by it's own admission, an acknowledgement and realisation that Iraola continues to raise the bar - after all, a point at Spurs is superb right? Are we wrong to feel frustrated or even miffed by dropping points?! Sam and Tom discuss the finer details... Thank you to everyone who has contributed to all our platforms. This season, Spurs and the Cherries have been the same, but different. Both sides have been plagued with debilitating injury woes which have caused calamity in the dressing room, but whilst one of sides is on the cusp of Europe, the other is languishing in the bottom half of the table. One manager has decided to embrace the challenge, whereas the other has used it as a reason for their recent failings. With 11 games to go there are just ten points between Spurs and Bournemouth, and the game at the beautiful Tottenham Hotspur stadium this weekend could enhance that gap even further... so can Andoni Iraola produce a statement against Ange Postecoglou's men? Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome back for more DOUBLE TROUBLELet's talk about dreams….Dreams can be intoxicatingly erotic; they can be filled with loss and longing; you might be falling, trapped in an confusing maze, or carried across bodies of water in a leaky boat. I often have the actor's nightmare - where I'm about to go onstage, but I don't know my lines and I don't even know which play it is. These are dreams from which I wake up in a cold sweat.SUMMER WINE by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood (Reprise, 1966)A Succubus is defined as a female demon or supernatural entity that appears in dreams to seduce men. This is probably what singer-songwriter-producer Lee Hazelwood had in mind when he paired up with the husky voiced Nancy Sinatra to tell the story of a cowboy who swaggers into town, and meets an alluring siren, who then invites him to spend the night partaking of her special home-made brew. He drinks too much of the elixir and wakes up the next morning alone, hungover, and without his silver spurs. This might have been a cautionary tale, but the smitten cowboy is left craving more of the same.Understandable. Nancy had seduced us all with These Boots Are Made For Walkin' and Sugar Town, and was at the peak of her magnetic powers. Teaming up with Lee was a smart move, too, because this Svengali was an American original; an independently minded auteur, with an irresistible basso, who, with his muse, went on to create many evocative and enduring tracks before going their separate ways. The structure of the song is simple: Nancy sings only the recurring chorus describing her recipe: “Strawberries, Cherries, and an Angel's kiss in spring…” This plays like an ear worm, stuck in the cowboy's head as he relates his mysterious tale of submission.HOW CAN WE HANG ON TO A DREAM by Mimi Farina (Philo, 1985)Mimi Farina became a widow at age 21. The younger sister of Joan Baez, who was one half of an anointed, royal duo of folk music, was left bereft when Richard Farina, her husband and partner, rode his motorcycle into oblivion. After casting about for years, trying to find her civic, and artistic footing (forming the charitable performing organization, Bread and Roses - and, even trying improv comedy) - she finally emerged in 1985, stronger and more confident at the age of 40, with a beautiful solo effort. Here she interprets the Tim Hardin composition HOW CAN WE HANG ON TO A DREAM? - which delicately puts all her trials into perspective.Mimi died of cancer in 2001, leaving behind a legacy of fragile, dream-like beauty and wonder. It seems that some people are too good for this world. I'm reminded of Richard and Mimi's anthemic PACK UP YOUR SORROWS…”If somehow you could pack up your sorrows, and give them all to me….you would lose them, I know how to use them, give them all to me.”Mimi did just that for us.
Despite Cherries registering two consecutive losses in the Premier League, they still sit in a European spot, just three points behind the Champions League places. Sam and Jeff are on Brighton seafront to chat to BBC Radio Solent's commentary team Jordan Clark and John Williams, talking about the season so far, reminiscing over some of our BIG moments. Plus, given Bournemouth's personnel crisis, we ponder the fact that many Cherries fans would be "underwhelmed" if European football was not achieved. So, with eleven games to go... what's realistic? Plus, Sam and Tom look forward to the FA Cup last 16 clash against Wolves, where Bournemouth will be looking to put right the wrongs of not only last week's league loss against them, but also the mid-week defeat to Brighton. Kaoru Mitoma likes playing against Bournemouth, and on Tuesday night we travel to Falmer with the aim of keeping the Japanese star quiet. Whilst Brighton have a number of stars that can cause mischief, it's the Seagulls' number 22 that has often been the thorn in Cherries' side recently, so can a Zabarnyi-less Boscombe prevent the in-form striker from influencing the game? Sam and Tom discuss the next game, which is being dubbed a "European Six Pointer"... Thank you to everyone who has contributed to all our platforms. On Saturday Andoni Iraola's Cherries face Wolverhampton Wanderers at home in the Premier League, in the first of two consecutive matches against Vítor Pereira's men. By looking at the the league table, the form table, the baseline tracker, everything should indicate that this should be fairly routine for Boscombe, but football is NOT played on paper, and looking at Wolves's last performance in the PL, we actually could have a fair few things to worry about. Sam and Tom are the QP to discuss what we think will be an ACID TEST for AFC Bournemouth. Visit the Queens Park at 482 Holdenhurst Rd, Bournemouth, BH8 9AR. Whilst Cherries fans will be singing "mind the gap", Andoni Iraola will be telling his players to "be careful" of the gap - with Bournemouth's trip to relegation-threatened Leicester earlier this season being the prime example that league positions should be treated with a pinch of salt. We know that both statistics and recent history indicates that Bournemouth should wipe the floor with our Hampshire neighbours on Saturday, but the local South coast showdown always provides some extra spice - and it doesn't always go true to form. Whilst Southampton will feel like their season is done, their last league match shows that they are still fighting - so complacency is off the menu for Iraola's Bournemouth - so can Cherries to stick the knife in en route to our European target? Sam and Tom are at the Queens Park hotel to preview the big game, with input from Mike from @MatchDayVlogs . After smashing the Baggies 5-1, Bournemouth travel to Merseyside for the very last time on Saturday, as they face Everton in the 4th Round of the FA Cup. Cherries fans have travelled to Goodison Park twice previously wondering if it'd be the last time we see the Great Old Lady - but with the new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock DEFINITELY ready for the start of the 2025/26 season season, this WILL be the last time we go there - so can we make it as memorable as the last visit? Sam and Tom are the Queens Park Hotel for the big match preview. Visit the QP at 482 Holdenhurst Rd, Bournemouth, BH8 9AR. It's time for The Truth! If you look at the top of the Premier League table, you'll see a few of the country's most famous and recently successful clubs in the pack, but you'll also find a previously fallen giant - in the form of Nottingham Forest, and an upstart underdog - in the form of Bournemouth, going toe-to-toe with the big boys. But how did they do it? What's behind the successes of the Tricky Trees and the Cherries this season, just a few years after promotion from the Championship - how did they turn themselves from relegation battlers or mid-table stalwarts into genuine contenders for European spots at the end of this season? We take a look at their differing strategies in both the transfer market activity and the tactical sense with which they play, examine which feels more sustainable, and hand out some very well-earned credit to two brilliant managers and two clubs doing things their own way. Is this a one-off, or is it a model that other clubs could use to find success? Are these high-flying underdogs showing a new way to go about things, or could they be just another one-season wonder? The Truth is somewhere in the middle... And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
