The best way that we can elevate referees outside of recognition and setting them up for success is by holding each other accountable. When we have a bad game, we can't get told by our crew mates that "they wouldn't change anything." SCREW THAT. As referees, we need to be there for each other during the successes AND the failures. That is the ONLY way that we will grow and develop into highly functioning referees. Now... this doesn't mean go ahead and act like an a$$hole. Learn more at www.refereesagainsthumanity.com
My first time was wild! I can't tell you how much I learned about working with assignors by being one myself. Assignors was underpaid, overworked, and under-appreciated. Use my takeaways to improve your relationship with your assignor, and I bet you'll see a massive difference in the games you receive. Learn more at www.refereesagainsthumanity.com.
The old adage of what you ignore, you encourage couldn't be more relevant than to the referee community. As the unbiased, neutral third party in our games, it is our responsibility to hold coaches and players accountable for their actions. Too often we ignore these issues for the next guy to deal with. This last weekend, I was that next guy and let me tell you, I'm pissed! View show notes at www.refereesagainsthumanity.com
We all put limitations on ourselves, especially when we have so many people telling us "REF, YOU SUCK!" so often. Limitations are OPTIONAL, success is OPTIONAL. Which one will you choose? For show notes visit www.refereesagainsthumanity.com/post/__007
In today's world of refereeing shortages, mentoring is more important now than ever before. Our goal should be to get referees to stick around longer than 1 year. Why 1 year? We know that if we can get a referee to stick around for at least 1 year, they are exponentially more likely to referee for at least 6+ years. Mentoring and education are the keys to the retention kingdom. For show notes, check out www.refereesagainsthumanity.com/post/__006.
