2026 starts tomorrow, have you set any goals for your business yet? Today, Jill explores whether goal setting is actually useful within the worlds of online coaching, entrepreneurship, and fitness-based businesses. Goals can be useful—not as rigid outcomes that you have to accomplish in order to feel successful, but rather as intentions that guide your actions. Different personalities approach goals differently, and your own mindset around them can impact motivation, performance, and follow-through. When goal-setting, it's important to stay flexible, reverse-engineer what you want to achieve, and create clear plans while leaving some room for learning along the way. There's always a more grounded, strategic, and compassionate approach to setting goals for your business and life. If your goals rarely stick past January, this episode breaks down why traditional goal setting fails — and how to set goals that match your capacity, identity, and real life so 2026 actually feels different. In this episode, we challenge the way most people approach goal setting and explain why motivation-based or overly rigid goals often lead to burnout instead of progress. We walk through a more sustainable framework that focuses on identity, consistency, and realistic capacity rather than perfection. You'll learn how to shift from "what do I want to achieve?" to "who do I need to become?" — and how that mindset creates long-term change across health, habits, business, and life. If you're ready to plan for 2026 without pressure or self-judgment, this conversation will ground you. Send us a textI thought I was recording a tidy little year-end recap. A highlight reel. A greatest hits moment. Easy.Instead, I found myself staring at this year of conversations and realizing something way more uncomfortable and way more interesting. Certain themes kept showing up. Across guests who had nothing in common. Across topics that should not have overlapped. And somehow, those themes quietly rewired how I think about goals, ambition, self-compassion, and what I'm willing to accept in my own life.So this episode is not a highlight reel. It's a reflection on the three biggest lessons this podcast taught me this year and why they might matter for you too.One of them completely changed how I look at “stuck” goals and the stories we tell ourselves about why something isn't possible yet. Another challenged the way I think about self-compassion and why being kind to yourself does not mean settling or giving up. And the third forced me to take a hard look at what I'm letting into my brain every single day and how much low-quality noise we've all been normalizing.I share the moments that cracked these lessons open for me, the guests who sparked the shifts, and the questions that stopped me mid-spiral more than once this year. This episode is part reflection, part pattern recognition, and part invitation to stop carrying goals and beliefs that feel heavy, obligatory, or vaguely punishing. If you're heading into a new season thinking about what you want next or wondering why certain goals just don't light you up anymore, this one might land closer to home than you expect. What's Inside:The patterns I couldn't unsee after reviewing a full year of conversationsWhy some goals quietly drain you before you even startA reframing of self-compassion that removes shame without removing choiceWhat happens when you stop letting low-quality noise rent space in your brainThis episode isn't about doing more or fixing yourself. It's about noticing what keeps repeating and having the courage to question it. I'd love to know which theme made you pause or which one you're still chewing on. Our Hall of Fame guidance on how to think more creatively about annual planning goals.
Every year between Christmas and New Year's, Jimmy takes a couple of hours to slow down, review the year he just lived, and intentionally design the year ahead. In this episode, Jimmy shares the full audio from his annual 2-hour goal-setting session. This is the exact process he has personally used for over 15 years to gain clarity, set direction, and build his life by design.Over 200,000 people have gone through this training over the years, and the reason is simple. Most people spend more time planning a vacation than they do planning their year. This session is about fixing that. You'll walk through how to review the past year honestly, identify what actually mattered, clarify what you want your next year to be about, and start building a plan that aligns with the life you want, not just goals on paper. If you want to watch the full video version of this session or learn more, visit: jimmyrexgoals.com There is also a goal-setting guidebook for this session to help you work through the exercises as you listen. Jimmy also shares why accountability matters and announces that We Are The They Tribe, his men's group focused on brotherhood, accountability, and real follow-through, is now open again.Learn more at watttribe.comThis episode isn't about motivation. It's about direction.Learn here how to start your 2026 off the right way.

Welcome to this episode rewind of 20/20 Money! In keeping with tradition of years past, I'm bringing back this episode yet again. If you are a long-time listener of the show, I still think it's worth listening to these episodes and other repeat episodes, whether it's on my podcast or other podcasts, for two reasons. Number one, the host of the show valued the episode and thought it to be worthy enough for a repeat listen. Second, you are not the same person that you are when you first listen to the episode. It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from the philosopher Heraclitus, who said "No person stands in the same stream twice, for they are not the same person and the stream is not the same." The same thing can be said for podcast episodes, books that we read or listen to, coaching programs that we're involved in, or any other content we're consuming with the goal of personal and/or professional improvement. If it was valuable at some point in the past, there's a good chance that it will be valuable in the future. Listening to things again at a different place in your life can allow you to pick up different pearls of knowledge from the same lesson. Given the time of year, this is usually when we are thinking about goal setting, and everyone's schedule is anything but normal around this time. I wanted to bring back the conversation that I had with my friend, business collaborator, and advisor coach Stephanie Bogan from early 2022. I'll share some info about Steph here shortly in the intro and then close out this introduction with some personal thoughts and reflections. While Stephanie has built and sold a number of businesses in her career, most recently she is the founder of Limitless Adviser, a coaching program where she empowers financial advisors to create and build wildly successful practices and a life that they love. This was a special conversation for me when I originally had it as I've been privileged to be involved in that program in a couple of different ways—first as an advisor that was being coached by Stephanie (from 2018-2020) and then serving as an advisor coach, where I help coach and empower other advisors to work intentionally on their practices by applying the mindset and methods that Stephanie teaches in the curriculum and that I've learned over the years as well. I exited that coaching business at the end of 2024 and I'd be lying if there was a part of me that doesn't miss what I was doing in that program, but my other businesses were asking a bit more of me and it was time to pass the torch to another group of advisors. In this conversation we talk about something that tends to be popular around this time of year: goal setting. However, we talk about it from a bit of a different angle, which is first spending time focusing on your purpose and intention for building what you're building and how money plays a role in that plan. We talk about it from two angles: the first being the practice owner that's at the tail end of their career and facing an inevitable transition from their practice and also from the lens of a younger practice owner that has many years in front of them. Now hundreds of episodes into 20/20 Money, this show has continued to grow and develop into something bigger than I thought it would have and I'm eternally grateful for everyone that's been involved in the show. To all my guests that have given their time to come on the show and share their perspective, experience, and expertise—thank you. To my producer Kyle— yet another thank you for all your help with the show. From getting it initially set up in 2018 to handling everything with the show after I've finished recording an episode…I appreciate all that you do for the show. And lastly, to you, the listener of the show. Whether this is your first episode, or you've listened to dozens (or even hundreds!) of them, I'm sincerely grateful for the intimate, albeit asynchronous relationship that we've been able to have. My goal is to have positive impact at scale in the optometric community and help practice owners make educated and informed decisions in their business and with their money and this podcast has allowed me to have a platform to share not only my knowledge and experience but also the experience of the guests that I've had on the show. I have always tried to keep the show as objective and unbiased as possible. I've never taking a dollar of sponsorship money, no guest has ever paid to be on the show, nor have I ever paid a guest to be on the show. This podcast is organic and authentic, and your continued support through listening and sharing the show is something that I'm both humbled and grateful for and I look forward to another great year. And with that introduction, I hope you enjoy this rewind episode of 20/20 Money: The business of optometry. Here's to your continued success. Today, I'm unpacking one of the most powerful (and misunderstood) chemicals in your brain: dopamine. We tend to think of it as the “feel-good” neurotransmitter—and it is, but when it's out of balance, it can quietly drive burnout, anxiety, depression, weight gain, addiction, and chronic stress.I'm sharing this because I've been there. Before I gave my life to Christ, I was chasing dopamine in all the wrong ways—shopping, overspending, unhealthy relationships, and quick fixes that only left me more depleted. And I see the same patterns everywhere today. If you've been feeling “off,” unmotivated, overwhelmed, or stuck in unhealthy cycles, this episode will help you understand why—and give you hope that balance is possible again.Chapter:[00:00] Podcast Preview[01:14] Introduction to Dopamine and Its Impact[02:38] What Dopamine Really Is (and Why We Chase It)[04:05] The Addictive Cycle of Dopamine Hits[06:17] How Dopamine Depletion Affects Mental Health[10:50] Physical Effects: Hormones, Weight & Immunity[13:15] Natural Ways to Boost Dopamine Levels[15:16] The Role of Lifestyle in Dopamine Balance[19:38] Sugar, Processed Foods & the Crash[20:55] Healthy Hobbies & Goal Setting[22:26] Supplements, Gut Health & Dopamine[23:32] Setting Goals and Achieving Dopamine Satisfaction[25:30] Conclusion and Looking Ahead P.S. This year-end episode closes out 2025 with a thoughtful look at reflection, goal-setting, and the power of consistency over time. The conversation explores why it's important to pause, review the past year, and acknowledge progress before charging ahead into the future. From habits and mindset to purpose-driven goals and avoiding the trap of “activity over achievement,” the discussion focuses on building momentum with intention rather than resolutions that fade. The episode also dives into Spotify Wrapped analytics — what the numbers really say, what they don't, and how creators should think about metrics in the bigger picture of growth and impact. Along the way, there's perspective on gratitude, perseverance, and designing a life built around meaningful work, reflection, and long-term goals heading into 2026 and beyond.*This podcast contains general information that may not be suitable for everyone. Episode #143 Goal Shaping and Tucson Camp! Tucson Camp Preparation Camp is about setting up the season, learning, and peer training in a stress-free environment, rather than being in race shape. The required fitness includes swimming at least 2K, completing 2-hour trainer rides or 3-4 hours of outdoor riding, and jogging 30 minutes for running. Jesse emphasized the importance of having a positive attitude towards the training challenges at camp, noting that campers don't need to already be at the required fitness levels before attending. Jesse and Marilyn explained that campers can have varying levels of group riding experience, with coaches providing guidance for both beginners and experienced riders. They emphasized the social aspects of camp, including opportunities to meet and learn from other athletes. Goal Setting in Triathlon Jesse and Marilyn discussed the importance of goal setting in triathlon, emphasizing the need to align personal goals with realistic logistical and physical capabilities. They highlighted the importance of honest self-assessment, including evaluating current fitness levels, life commitments, and the resources required to achieve specific goals. Jesse shared a personal example of adjusting goals for an ultra-running race to focus on finishing rather than winning, given time and energy constraints. Marilyn recommended using a structured debriefing tool to help athletes plan their seasons effectively and suggested consulting with coaches or trusted individuals to gain an external perspective on goal feasibility. Happy Almost New Year!We kick off the final few days of the year with the first of three episodes devoted to the concepts of goals and goal-setting. I have been a huge believer in goal-setting for a long time, and I have talked about it before on the podcast, usually during this week.In today's episode, you'll hear me talk about the power of looking back to move forward and then setting goals for the new year and then going out and working to achieve them. You will hear five quotes today in support of these ideas. As we finish off the year 2025, let me say again that I am grateful to all of you who support the podcast! I do this show because of you. While I enjoy the quotes myself, I do this podcast because many of you who are looking for inspiration and impact from these quotes come back and listen to it on a consistent basis. Most people believe saving money is the responsible thing to do. But what if that habit is quietly costing you your future wealth? In this episode of The Abundance Mindset, Vinney Chopra and Gualter Amarelo break down why money that sits still actually loses power over time—and how fear-based saving can limit opportunity. Vinney shares lessons from building a massive real estate portfolio after coming to the U.S. with just $7, while Gualter connects those principles to real decisions investors are making right now. Here's what they dive into:
You've got a client who's ready to work with you—they've paid for their first session and now you're feeling those pre-session nerves. Sound familiar? In this episode, we talk about what's really going on in your client's mind when they show up for that first paid session (hint: they're probably more nervous than you are). I share the exact structure I use to make sure every client leaves their first session feeling heard, hopeful, and clear on their next steps. From creating a warm welcome that puts your clients at ease, to helping them see their full financial picture (often for the first time), we cover how to make your first paid sessions truly valuable for your clients. I share my biggest mistakes and what I learned from them, so you can skip the trial and error phase I went through.Plus, I walk through our follow-up system that keeps clients engaged and taking action even after the session ends. Whether you're new to paid sessions or looking to make your current process even better, this episode will help you create an experience that has your clients saying “they get me” and ready to take the next step in their journey.Links & Resources:Ultimate Growth GuideJoin the Facebook groupEpisode 91Key Takeaways:Want your clients to open up about money? Start by acknowledging their courage - it takes guts to share your finances with a stranger and pay them for help.Trying to solve every financial problem in one session isn't generous, it's overwhelming. Pick their most exciting goal and solve it completely.Your clients can sense when you're in your head worrying about delivering value. Their emotional rollercoaster is 10 times bigger than yours.Numbers tell a story, but you need to narrate it out loud. Walk clients through your thinking process so they can see how you got to the solution. The magic isn't in telling clients to spend less, it's in finding their big goal that makes them excited enough to actually change their habits. When a client shares multiple money goals, celebrate internally. They're showing you they have a genuine need for ongoing coaching, so don't try to tackle all those goals at once.Your follow-up system is a safety net that catches clients before they fall off track. Make it systematic but personal, like checking in when reality and procrastination typically hit.
