Asking For A Friend – Why Church? Which Church? This week's Asking For A Friend question is two-fold: Why Church? and Which Church? Do we really need the church to follow Jesus, or can we do it on our own? And if we do need it, how do we know which church is right? Pastor Shannon Patterson walks through Scripture to reveal why the Church is God's divine plan for His people through Jesus Christ—and what kind of church helps you grow in love for Him. Learn how to: • Recognize what makes a church truly centered on Jesus • Understand the difference between essentials and non-essentials of faith • See your vital role within the body of Christ Whether you've been part of a church your whole life or are just beginning to explore faith, this conversation will challenge and encourage you to see the Church in a whole new way.

Chill overnight for a ready-made drink Method: Brew your coffee. Combine coffee with protein powder (and optional ingredients) in a blender—blending ensures smooth texture and better absorption . Blend until frothy and well-mixed. Enjoy within 30–60 minutes of waking—it aligns with natural cortisol rhythms, helping stabilize energy and support muscle protein synthesis . Why This Recipe Works for Women Sustainable energy + less crash: Combining protein with caffeine helps blunt cortisol spikes and prevents those shaky jittery responses we often get from coffee alone . Muscle preservation + training support: Leucine-rich protein early in the day supports muscle recovery and metabolism—especially important for active women or those navigating hormonal transitions . Hormone-friendly routine: Enjoying protein coffee as soon as you wake sets a physiological tone of “fed and safe,” which can improve energy, reduce cravings, and enhance mood—less fatigue, more focus. Here are the best day trips and weekend escapes from Boston that'll make you fall in love with New England all over again. Salem: Witches, Ghosts & Seaside VibesAbout an hour north of Boston, Salem is basically Halloween Town year-round. It's spooky, historic, and surprisingly charming.Walking Route to Hit the HighlightsGedney House (21 High St) – One of the oldest timber-frame homes in Salem, creaky and full of character.Salem Jail (50 St. Peter St) – Atmospheric and eerie; you'll feel like you've stepped into a gothic novel.Broad Street Cemetery – Quiet, haunting, and beautiful. The Witch House (310 Essex St) – Former home of Judge Jonathan Corwin from the witch trials. It's a bit of a trek, but fangirls/fanboys, this is your moment.Afternoon Treat: Schooner Fame CruiseFor a change of pace, hit the water on the Schooner Fame. You can help hoist the sails, steer the ship, and pretend you're a pirate for the afternoon. Way more interactive than your average harbor cruise.Eats in SalemVillage Tavern – Cozy, hearty, and pub-y.Longboards – Chill vibe, seafood-heavy menu.Oneil's – Local classic. Lexington & Concord: Where the Revolution BeganIf you geek out on history (hi, it's me ✋), this one's a must. Just 30 minutes from Boston, these twin towns are where the Revolutionary War kicked off.Drive between the sites because they're spread out, but don't expect Uber to save you here—it's not very ride-share friendly.Highlights:Lexington Battle Green – Where the “shot heard 'round the world” was fired.Minute Man National Historical Park – Scenic walking trails + reenactments.Concord's North Bridge – Stand where the colonists forced the British to retreat.Orchards & Farms – Depending on the season, you can go apple picking or just sip hot cider. It's basically a living history lesson, except with better snacks.Walden Pond: Nature Meets LiteratureWalden Pond is the kind of place that makes you want to throw your phone into the lake and live like Thoreau (minus the whole no-WiFi situation). For history lovers: This is where Henry David Thoreau lived in his tiny cabin and wrote Walden. For nature lovers: It's a gorgeous, swimmable pond surrounded by peaceful hiking trails.Pro tip: Visit in the morning to beat the crowds, especially in the fall when the foliage is next-level. Cape Cod & Martha's Vineyard: Beachy BlissAbout 90 minutes south of Boston, Cape Cod is summer in postcard form: sandy beaches, salty air, and clapboard houses.Cape HighlightsHyannisport – Kennedy family stomping grounds.Sandwich Boardwalk – Walk this at sunset for pure magic. From here, hop a ferry to Martha's Vineyard. Yes, it takes planning—parking, ferry tickets, bus passes—but it's worth every ounce of effort. Once you're there, rent bikes or hop the island buses to explore:Oak Bluffs – Cute gingerbread houses.Edgartown – Upscale shops and restaurants.Beaches – All of them. Pack snacks and beach hop. It's laid-back, stunning, and gives you all the coastal New England vibes. Gloucester & Rockport: Fishermen & Art LoversNorth of Boston, you'll find Gloucester, one of America's oldest fishing ports.Fishermen's Memorial – A powerful tribute with the names of those lost at sea.Harbor Walk – Scenic and lively with boats everywhere.Nearby Rockport is like a tiny storybook village with shops, art galleries, and ocean views for days. Perfect for an afternoon stroll with an ice cream cone in hand. Portsmouth, New Hampshire: A Seaport SurpriseDrive about an hour north and boom—you're in Portsmouth, NH. This little town is buzzing with cool restaurants, historic homes, and waterfront charm.Perfect for:A dinner out with fresh seafood.Wandering cobblestone streets.Starting a mini New England road trip if you're heading toward Maine. Foxborough: Patriots NationIf you're into football, a trip to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough is basically a pilgrimage.Training Camp (summer) is free, but it gets packed.Patriot Place is like an entertainment complex on steroids—restaurants, shops, and a museum.Even if you're not a Pats fan, the energy is infectious. Plymouth: Pilgrims, Lobster Rolls & Shimmer by the SeaWelcome to America's hometown—the landing spot of the Mayflower. And yes, the infamous Plymouth Rock is here (spoiler: it's… underwhelming). How to Spend a Day in PlymouthBreakfast at Café Nicole – Fuel up for exploring.See the Mayflower II – A replica of the original ship.Tavern on the Wharf – Grab a lobster roll for lunch.Shimmer by the Sea cocktail – Sparkly, fun, and Instagram-worthy.Monument to the Forefathers – Bigger than you'd expect.Cupcake Charlie's – Sweet pit stop.Shopping – Fave stores: Soft as a Grape & Fidel's.First Church in Plymouth – Founded in 1606.Marina Walkway – Perfect for catching the sunset.Dinner at 71 West – End with waterfront dining. It's touristy, yes, but in the best way. Bonus: Manchester, NH & Fall LeavesIf you're visiting in the fall, New England's foliage is basically the main event. A quick drive up to Manchester, NH, or even deeper into the White Mountains, will blow your mind with fiery reds, golden yellows, and Instagram gold. Bring a sweater, a thermos of cider, and your camera. Final ThoughtsBoston is the hub, but the real magic happens when you venture just beyond. From spooky Salem to sun-soaked Cape Cod, every trip feels like stepping into a different story. The best part? You don't have to pick just one. With a car, a little caffeine, and a sense of adventure, you can road trip your way through history, beaches, and small-town charm—all within a couple of hours of the city. So, next time you're in Boston, don't stop at the Freedom Trail. Go beyond. The witches, patriots, and fishermen are waiting.
Jim Moorhead is the Founder and CEO of STAND BRAVE, a consulting and coaching firm that helps organizations build empowering cultures. As a former assistant US attorney, investment banker, and law firm partner, he has advised Fortune 500 companies in crises and high-stakes settings. Jim is also the author of The Instant Survivor: Right Ways to Respond When Things Go Wrong. His STAND BRAVE™ framework guides leaders and teams to take calculated risks and respond boldly when faced with adversity. In this episode… Bravery is often celebrated in hindsight, yet in the moment, it can feel anything but heroic. With organizations facing rapid change and constant pressure, how can leaders and teams act boldly during uncertainty and high stakes? What does it take to build a culture that consistently chooses courage over comfort? Crisis management and brave leadership authority, Jim Moorhead argues that bravery is not a rare trait but a muscle to be trained. He advises making bravery a shared team value and starting small by openly identifying problems or asking for help before scaling to bigger risks. Leaders can create structures that reward innovation and use clear company values to decide when to walk away from revenue drivers that aren't the right fit. These habits enable agility and resilience during chaotic times. In this episode of the Up Arrow Podcast, William Harris sits down with Jim Moorhead, Founder and CEO of STAND BRAVE, to talk about building a culture of courageous leadership. Jim explains why innovation slowdowns are often bravery problems, how his STAND BRAVE™ framework turns single acts of courage into sustained brave leadership, and why taking even one small step can spark a cycle of bold action.
In the first of a two-part series, RJon challenges the myth that profit is selfish and reveals why financial stability is a professional and ethical responsibility.

Fasting is often seen as a practice reserved for spiritual giants or extremely desperate circumstances, and for the most part, optional for believers. However, the Lord Jesus spoke of fasting as a normal part of the Christian life, and promises to reward those who fast. What might we be missing by neglecting to fast? Listen in!
Parsha "Ki Tavo" (Deuteronomy (26:1-29:8) is almost certainly the most famous, and foreboding, set of blessings and cursings in the Bible. But, notably, it begins with "when you have come into the land," and a set of instructions, such as the 'Bikkurim' or offerings of First Fruits, that are to take place there. But we remain in exile, have been "shalach"-ed for cause. So what does that mean about those curses? The Erev Shabbat reading begins there, and the specifics, to set the state: https://hebrewnationonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/SSM-9-12-25-Ki-Tavo-teaching-podcast-xxx.mp3 During the Sabbath Day midrash, Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa addresses exactly that question. But it begins with an observation: The plagues are certainly - undeniably - "well deserved," not just by the US, but the world. And many, at least, already seem to be in progress. Yet we are told, repeatedly, in Scripture, to "have no fellowship," with the unfruitful works of darkness. To "flee from idolatry." And not to 'keep company' with, or even eat with, the kind of people who commit the kind of perversions we routinely see promoted on CNN. Or taught in the public 'schools.' Mark argues that we have been told to "come out of her," to not participate with those sins, so as to - hopefully - avoid the promised plagues. The prophet Amos tells us that, unless they are agreed, it's difficult for two people to "walk together." And we saw this week there are, unquestionably, a large demonic army of people with whom reasoned dialogue, discourse, debate, and now arguably even peaceful coexistence have been demonstrated to be impossible. So, do those plagues in Deuteronomy 28 still apply? Or not? Isn't it relevant that the FIRST three plagues in Egypt hit everyone? But, during the fourth, of flies, YHVH "put a difference," made a distinction, between the pagan Egyptians and His people? The promised plagues are here, and we're already in exile. So what now? Ki Tavo: The Plagues are OPTIONAL https://hebrewnationonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/WT-CooH-9-13-25-Ki-Tavo-Plagues-are-OPTIONAL-podcast-xxxx.mp3 The combined two-part reading and Sabbath midrash:
In this intriguing episode Jennifer Hadley explores the challenging yet liberating teaching from Lesson 152 that no one suffers without their own decision. She compassionately addresses how this truth confronts our victimhood beliefs while offering a path to complete freedom from suffering through recognizing that truth has no exceptions - if it's true for one, it's true for all. Drawing from personal experiences and practical examples, she demonstrates how taking responsibility without blame and believing more in the invisible truth than visible circumstances leads to the peace that's always available in the eternal now. In this episode, we delve into the significant and sometimes controversial topic of baptism within the Christian faith. Prompted by the Holy Spirit, this discussion addresses key questions: Is baptism optional? Should it be immediate or after a class? The different methods like sprinkling versus full immersion. We explore scriptural references from Psalms, the Gospels, and epistles, and analyze Jesus' baptism, the teachings of John the Baptizer, and the significance of being born of water and the Spirit as detailed in John 3:5. With insights from respected Bible scholar Derek Prince, we emphasize the importance of baptism as an essential step in the Christian journey, likening it to a wedding garment and a sign of true discipleship. We also discuss topics such as re-baptism and infant baptism, encouraging believers to seek understanding through the Scriptures and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Episode focus: What GLP‑1 actually is (your body already makes it), when/where it's released, why food noise exists, and practical ways to nudge the same mechanisms without a prescription. Listen for: simple definitions, meal/lifestyle plays that boost satiety signals, and a week‑by‑week experiment plan. Quick Summary GLP‑1 (glucagon‑like peptide‑1) is a peptide hormone your gut releases after you eat. It helps meals feel calmer by slowing stomach emptying, supporting insulin only when glucose is high, and signaling the brain to turn down cravings. Release is biphasic (two waves): a quick early wave soon after food hits the upper small intestine, and a later, longer satiety wave 30–120+ minutes after—especially when meals include protein, some fat, and fermentable/viscous fiber. Food noise is multi‑factor: hyperpalatable foods, fast eating/liquid calories, sleep debt and stress, microbiome shifts, and environment/cues. Meds mute it fast; habits keep it quiet. What it is: a gut‑made peptide hormone that coordinates the after‑meal response. Where it's made: special gut cells called L‑cells (mostly in the ileum and colon). When it's released: Early wave: minutes after you start eating. Late wave: 30–120+ minutes later as nutrients and fiber fermentation products reach the lower gut. What it does: Slows the stomach so fuel trickles in (you feel fuller, longer). Supports insulin only when glucose is high (smaller spikes, gentler landings). Signals the brain via the vagus nerve to turn down “keep eating” urges. Why meds feel stronger: prescription GLP‑1s are engineered to last much longer than your natural hormone. Food/lifestyle can raise your own signals but won't extend them like a drug. Why Food Noise Gets Loud (and Stays Loud) Hyperpalatable foods (sweet+fat+salt+crunch) keep reward circuits fired up. Removing them for 7–14 days usually turns the volume down. Sleep debt & stress: more ghrelin (hunger), less leptin (satiety), and higher reactivity to cues. Meal speed & form: soft/ultra‑processed textures and liquid calories outrun gut signals. Microbiome: low‑fiber patterns → fewer short‑chain fatty acids → weaker late satiety wave. Environment: visual cues, routines, social context, alcohol, and easy access keep the cycle going. Food Levers (Evidence‑Aligned, Practical) 1) Protein‑forward meals (especially breakfast) Aim ≥30 g protein. Whey (if tolerated) is a strong pre‑meal option: 20–30 g, 15–30 min before a carb‑heavy meal. Why it works: raises satiety hormones (including GLP‑1 and PYY) and lowers “hunt for more” at the next meal. 2) Viscous & fermentable fibers Viscous (slows the meal): oats/barley (beta‑glucan), legumes, chia/flax, okra, eggplant. Fermentable (late‑wave satiety): beans/lentils; cooked‑then‑cooled potatoes/rice (resistant starch); green bananas/plantains; Jerusalem artichokes/asparagus (inulin). Supplements (optional, measured): Psyllium 5–10 g in 12–16 oz water 10–15 min pre‑meal (start with 2–3 g). PHGG (partially hydrolyzed guar gum) 5–10 g/day (gentle fermentable fiber). Glucomannan or inulin/FOS (build slowly; watch GI tolerance). 3) Some fat with meals Sources: eggs, salmon, olive oil, avocado, nuts/seeds. Why it works: helps release bile and triggers fullness signals; supports slower stomach emptying when paired with protein and fiber. 4) Bitter & spicy nudges (optional) Bitter greens (arugula, radicchio), citrus pith, dark cocoa. Capsaicin (chili peppers) or capsinoids (non‑pungent pepper extracts). Start small to check tolerance. 5) Meal order & pace Water/salad/broth first, then protein + veg, then starch. Minimum 15–20 minutes per meal; chew well. Optional: 1–2 tsp vinegar in plenty of water before higher‑starch meals (skip if reflux or enamel sensitivity). Lifestyle Levers (That Amplify Satiety Signals) Vigorous exercise windows: hard sessions can suppress appetite acutely for 1–3 hours; follow with protein + viscous fiber to extend satiety. Sleep 7–9 hours: normalizes hunger/satiety hormones and reduces cue‑reactivity. Early time‑restricted eating: a daytime 8–10 hour window often eases appetite even at similar calories. Environment design: strip hyperpalatables, reduce visible cues, pre‑portion foods, limit variety within a meal.

In this episode, Pastor David Maestas walks through Hebrews 5, where we're introduced to Jesus as our compassionate High Priest—one who understands weakness and intercedes on our behalf. But the tone shifts as the writer addresses spiritual immaturity. By now, the believers should be teaching others, yet they still need spiritual milk. The call is clear: it's time to grow up. Pastor David challenges listeners not to settle for surface-level faith. Growth requires discipline, time in the Word, and a willingness to move from comfort to conviction. If we want depth, wisdom, and lasting impact, we have to stop avoiding the harder truths of Scripture and start training ourselves for spiritual maturity.
