Have you ever wondered about what relevance religion has in society today? Many universities, including Queen’s, started out as training grounds for those entering ministry. Times have changed and the universities have changed along with them. Queen’s decided to close its own Theological College in 2015. Countless other theology schools across North America have also closed. Despite the disappearance of these programs, religion remains an important force in society. Join special guests Queen’s historian Duncan McDowell, Religious Studies Professor Richard Ascough, Rev. James Christie, and Queen’s Principal Daniel Woolf to discover the history of theology at Queen’s and learn about religions role in modern society.
Kingston’s campus/community radio station takes on the Orson Welles classic! Narrated by Principal Daniel Woolf, and with a cast of dozens, this is a new spin on an old classic with a contemporary radio twist. Originally aired on CFRC 101.9 FM in Kingston, Ontario on October 30, 2018.
In this episode of the BeneathTheSurface Podcast Haydn talks to Principal Daniel Woolf about Jordan Peterson's recent lecture and subsequent protests at Queen's University. Daniel Woolf is the principal and vice-chancellor of Queen’s University. After the event, Principal Woolf submitted an op-ed to the Globe and Mail that can be found here: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-why-we-invited-jordan-peterson-to-discuss-compelled-speech/ As happens with most conversations, these interviews go by and I always regret not saying this or not saying that. I always write a follow up blog to these interviews to go over some of these things. The link to said blog will be uploaded into this description, and will also be shared to the BeneathTheSurface Facebook page and Twitter page. Queen’s campus hummed with activity May 27-29 when alumni celebrating a milestone anniversary (from 1941 to 2006) returned for Spring Reunion. Several classes participated in a Re-convocation ceremony in Grant Hall, presided over by Queen’s Principal Daniel Woolf and Chancellor David Dodge. All alumni taking part donned convocation gowns and hoods to relive their graduation from Queen’s. Alumni celebrating a 50th anniversary received commemorative medals at the ceremony.
