This week, we're marking Dydd Miwsig Cymru, the annual celebration of Welsh and Welsh-language music with an hour of some of the best music from Wales on the Yellow Brit Road (not in the least exhaustive, only vaguely guided by things I haven't played in past years)! From icons to new artists, from miwsig Cymreig to intriguing multilingual songs pushing the boundaries of genre, it's only the finest for you, listeners. In the last half-hour of the show, we join Toronto indie artist Liz Uninvited at her show at The Piston in Toronto for a quick interview and a few songs performed live with her backing band as part of a live session! Music this week by:Manic Street Preachers, Catatonia, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, Ani Glass, Melin Melyn, Gwilym, Lloyd Steele, Atyniad Achwanegol, CHROMA, N'famady Kouyaté, Shale, Siula, Heather Jones, Sage Todz, Kim Hon, Liz Uninvited. In light of the passing of Fred Smith, bassist in NY punks and art punk pioneers Television (on a weekend of a number of monumental losses in rock music), we played some of Marquee Moon, which turned 49 on Sunday. This week, we introduce you to Trashwyre, a new Toronto four-piece band bringing the lo-fi, rebellious electro-clash to punk rock. Boasting 'shambolic', exciting live shows with a steadily growing local audience, we are joined by frontman, singer and guitarist Gabe Vitale to talk about the band's unusual origins, writing and influences, dumpster diving for guitars and their upcoming debut EP. You will also hear two songs from their set at the Raven Underground, 'Electric Molecular' and 'Cop Car'.Podcast cover art: Trashwyre by Owen Forbes.Touch that dial and tune in live! Lots on the show this week. Whilst I was away seeing Sprints on Sunday, on the show we had album anniversaries, reviews of the new Cribs album, our review (and pictures) from the Shame show from last week, and a live session with Canadian electro-glam punk four piece Trashwyre, recorded at Toronto's Raven Underground.Music this week by Fleetwood Mac, The Cribs, PVA, Coach Party, Chalk, Dead Air, Goodbye, Tooth, Nubiyan Twist, Bootie Brown, Bloodworm, Robo, SPRINTS, Franz Ferdinand (Amyl and the Sniffers), Dutch Baby, Revzed, Trashwyre.Cover image: Shame at the Phoenix Concert Theatre, 23 January, 2026 by Sam Ciampa.Find this week's playlist here. Seven-piece American indie rock, post rock band Racing Mount Pleasant walk an easy line from Black Country, New Road to the Mountain Goats, Radiohead to Broken Social Scene, Sigur Rós to Pavement. They draw you into their immersive musical world of complex, sometimes heavily contrasting themes: simple joy and catharsis rides atop intricate instrumental arrangements and time signatures, softer sounds build up to climactic crescendos, placeably Gen Z themes are sung over timeless music, as 300 of us descended into a hot, hot Garrison on the coldest day of the year so far.I went down to the Garrison with Toronto photographer Owen Forbes, friend of the show and occasional fellow-concert reviewer, on Tuesday, 20 January to catch an exceptional set by Racing Mount Pleasant. Hello and welcome to another special edition of Campus Beat. Amidst all the snow this January, it's a very busy time on Queen's campus! Elections and referenda campaign time is still very much underway for candidates and clubs under the Alma Mater Society through January 27th! In this episode, we are featuring coverage of the 16 campus groups and student clubs on the ballot for student fees during the upcoming AMS referendum. Due to the timing with which CFRC received information about what groups were going to referendum from the AMS Elections team this January, only one club was able to connect with us in time for recording and broadcast of a campaign interview. CFRC team members are reading the information provided to us about each group's campaign in lieu of interviews to provide an opportunity for their message to be heard and they will be read verbatim, sometimes in first person. It is CFRC's pleasure and privilege to support candidates and groups campaigning and we thank you for tuning in. AMS members are reminded that voting for candidates and student fees takes place over three days on January 28th, 29th and 30th. Watch your Queen's Emails for ballots and visit myams.org for more information about candidates, groups and the elections process. In the meantime, let's dive in to a conversation with one of the student clubs running a fee campaign followed by 15 segments featuring discussion of other student groups on the ballot in the AMS referendum. Thank you for joining us.
Hello and welcome to another special edition of Campus Beat. It's Elections and Referenda time at Queen's University with all manner of student candidates, student clubs, Queen's University services and a few community organizations currently campaigning for office or for student fees across the AMS and SGPS memberships. In this episode, the CFRC team got together to read the campaign materials provided by various groups seeking student fees through the SGPS referendum. Unfortunately, we did not hear back from everyone given the short timeline of release of information from the SGPS about approved groups and were only able to book one interview among the nine organizations on the ballot. CFRC team members are reading the information provided to us about each group's campaign in lieu of interviews to provide an opportunity for their message to be heard and they will be read verbatim, sometimes in first person. SGPS members are reminded that voting for candidates and student fees takes place on January 29th and 30th. Watch your Queen's Emails for ballots and visit sgps.ca for more information about candidates, groups and the elections process. And now without further ado, we'll dive in to our interview with Ban Righ Centre about their SGPS student fee campaign followed by the CFRC team reads of campaign profiles for all groups on the ballot. Thank you for joining us.

One of 2025's most hotly tipped bands had to be NYC indie rock four-piece Geese. With some iconic performances leading up to the anticipated release of their third album Getting Killed, Geese's arrival at Toronto's Opera House this October was a sold-out, hyped affair, supported by Michigan post rock outfit Racing Mount Pleasant. London band Sorry have never cared to be defined by labels. Crafting their own unique sound over almost a decade, combining indie rock, industrial sounds, hazy bedroom pop, guitar riffs, poetry and the occasional tongue-in-cheek tune, the band are back with a new album and its as Sorry as it gets. It's also their most cohesive work to date, and we caught up with them backstage at The Garrison before their show in Toronto last week to chat all about it.I spoke with the creative partnership behind Sorry, Asha Lorenz and Louis O'Bryen, about the new album Cosplay, their writing, recording, opening for Fontaines in arenas last year, and Sorry's current tour across North America.Cover art credit: Owen ForbesCFRC Fundraiser events here! This week's show is all in tribute to Madchester legend, acid house and pioneering bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield of the Stone Roses and Primal Scream, and the way he changed British music forever, bringing his elements of dance, rave and neo-psychedelic basslines to indie music. Mani forever.Albums we heard music from: The Stone Roses (1989 self-titled debut album), XTRMNTR (2000), Evil Heat (2002) and various early Stone Roses singles and remastered live performances that can mostly be found on the deluxe version of the debut album. Also worth checking out from the second album Second Coming is the song Love Spreads. RIP to a genuine British music great and a true Mancunian.

This week on the Yellow Brit Road, I caught up with Jasmine.4.T outside the Baby G in Toronto, the venue of the first show of her first North American headline ‘Tranarchy' tour! We talked musical influences, Manchester, trans joy, solidarity, her debut album You Are The Morning and how signing to Phoebe Bridgers' Saddest Factory label "changed her life" (Lucy Dacus' words, not mine!). This was a fascinating interview and I'm grateful to Jasmine for her time and thoughful answers. In this week's episode, Hunter chats with Laura and Emily of Risen Motherhood about applying the gospel to our everyday lives. They work through what it practically looks like to apply the framework of creation, fall, redemption, and consummation to the very real problems we face, and they also chat about the upcoming sunset of Risen Motherhood and what's next for Laura and Emily! FULL SHOW NOTES GET THE DWELL APP DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Have you ever heard of the Creation, Fall, Redemption, Consummation framework? How does this help you understand the gospel more fully? What is an issue in your life right now that you can apply CFRC to? Perhaps either journal through the framework or talk it through out loud with a friend. Emily mentioned growing in your understanding of Scripture and the spiritual disciplines. What is one small step you can take today to move toward this kind of growth? Who is someone whom you might connect with or go deeper with to discuss the issues you're dealing with through a gospel lens? What might you do or implement based on what you learned in this week's episode?
