In this episode, I provide some context to biphobia and my experiences with biphobia. I kind of ramble in this episode so if its not as clear what I am trying to say that's ok because this is a topic that will continue to be discussed in different contexts in future episodes. I use the song Angels Like You by Miley Cyrus to show how biphobia influences ones self image (sorry for another Miley song, I forgot that I already did a Miley song.) I also discuss the Bi representation in Generation on HBO Max. This show has multiple Bi+ characters and they experience so much biphobia wihtin the first half of season1. I have a lot to say about it...lol. Let me know what you think! This episode will cover Bi Health Month which is being run by several Bi+ organizations in the US, pioneered by Bisexual Resource Center. The theme of this year is equity to place a spotlight on the fact that bisexuals make up a majority of the LGBTQ community but receive less then 1% of funding while still facing health, social and economic disparities. The goal of this episode is just to discuss the statistics that are provided by many of these Bi + organizations. Since this week is a bit heavy, I have provided some positive visibility in the Bi-selection and Bi-visibility segments. I talk about the song Not a Phase by Jessie Paege and Lucy & La Mer as well as the book Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. Here are links to all the information discussed below. If you are able think about donating money to one of the many Bi+ organizations as they receive very little grant funding when compared to other LGBTQ organizations. This episode I first discuss the song Till I Found you by Josef Salvat. Then, I define labels used for naming non-monosexual identities and discuss my pros and cons of using a label to define a sexual orientation. I share my experience with labeling my sexuality and how that has sometimes been received by others. In the Bi-Visibility segment, I talk about the failure of Big Mouth in defining Bi and Pan as well as the movie Giant Little Ones, which explores sexuality in a relatively label-less way. On this episode of Bi the Basics, I discuss my perspective on this feeling of being queer enough. Often our baseline for queer is the gay community but what happens when your identity is neither straight nor gay. I explore my feelings on this topics as well as discuss how bi-erasure influences these feelings.
