Gallup recently conducted a poll on trust in media, and trust is at a 50 year low. Those results are positive in my opinion. Apparently, some people are starting to wake up to the reality that those we're supposed to trust to bring us “news” cannot, in fact, be trusted. How can small business leaders design incentive programs that boost team engagement without breaking the bank? In this episode of the Overlap Podcast, hosts Sid and Keith unpack the art and science of creating effective incentive programs for small businesses. Drawing from real-world experiences—like ski trips with peer groups and biotech events—they explore how to align team goals with business success. From cash bonuses to non-monetary rewards like gift cards, they reveal practical strategies to motivate employees while keeping systems simple and sustainable. Whether you're a startup founder or a seasoned manager, this episode offers actionable insights to elevate your leadership game. What You Will Learn The foundational reasons to introduce incentives and how they unify teams. The right timing to roll out an incentive program for maximum impact. Practical steps to design win-win incentives that avoid common pitfalls. How small gestures—like a $10 bill or a Chick-fil-A card—can transform workplace culture. Key Topics Discussed The “Why” Behind Incentives: Discover what drives the need for incentives and how they bridge the gap between leadership vision and team effort. Timing Is Everything: When should you launch an incentive plan, and what systems need to be in place first? Cash vs. Non-Cash Rewards: Explore the surprising power of small, non-monetary incentives over big payouts. Avoiding the Follow-Through Trap: Why execution is the make-or-break factor in any incentive strategy. Cost Savings as a Game Changer: How focusing on savings can double your impact compared to chasing sales. Show Resources Harvard Business Review Study: Well-designed incentive plans can increase motivation and productivity by 20-30%. Gallup Poll (2023): Only 23% of employees feel engaged at work—how can your business stand out? Incentive Research Foundation (IRF): Non-cash incentives can boost engagement by 31%. Quotes “Leadership is getting everyone focused on the differences that make the difference.” – Sid “You can't save yourself into profitability, but you can save yourself into another tax bracket.” – Sid “The number one downfall of any incentive plan is the follow-through.” – Keith, citing Harvard Business Review Conclusion Sid and Keith wrap up with a clear takeaway: incentive programs aren't just about money—they're about clarity, alignment, and consistency. Whether it's a team-wide bonus or a spontaneous thank-you gift, the key is to make it sustainable and meaningful. A recent Gallup Poll showed that 1 in 5 American adults reports feeling lonely every single day. It's something that U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has called a "national epidemic of loneliness and isolation." We hear from Murthy about the broader impact of loneliness. Then, experts say that loneliness and social isolation carry the same health risks as smoking. Julianne Holt-Lunstad, a psychology and neuroscience professor, joins us to discuss how to break the cycle of loneliness and build more social connections in our lives. And, the longest scientific study of happiness has found that strong relationships stand out as the key. Dr. Robert Waldinger talks about what the study shows about the importance of relationships, how they benefit overall health, and how we can improve our own personal connections at any stage of life.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

According to the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, the success rate for marriage counseling is approximately 70%. Many couples report a greater sense of emotional well-being and a positive outcome from therapy, depending on the therapist. The idea of a happier life after marriage is not just a fairy tale; the data supports it as well. A Gallup Poll reveals that married adults report significantly higher levels of happiness compared to those in other relationship statuses. From 2009 to 2023, over 2.5 million adults in the United States were surveyed on how they would rate their current life on a scale from zero (the worst possible rating) to ten (the highest). Respondents were also asked to predict their happiness level five years into the future. Throughout the survey period, married individuals consistently reported happiness levels that were 12% to 24% higher than their unmarried counterparts, depending on the year. Angelo Santiago is a dedicated Men's Marriage and Relationship Coach specializing in helping men become better husbands. With years of experience working with men, my passion for marriage coaching stems from my own journey in a relationship with my wife, Julie, which has lasted over 21 years, as well as the transformations I've witnessed in other marriages through this work. In America's collective consciousness, Pat Nixon has long been perceived as enigmatic. She was voted “Most Admired Woman in the World” in 1972 and made Gallup Poll's top ten list of most admired women fourteen times. She survived the turmoil of the Watergate scandal with her popularity and dignity intact. And yet, the media often portrayed Mrs. Nixon as elusive and mysterious. The real Pat Nixon, however, bore little resemblance to the woman so often described in the press. Pat married California lawyer Richard Nixon in June of 1940, becoming a wife, mother, and her husband's trusted political partner in short order. As the couple rose to prominence, Pat became Second Lady from 1953-1961 and then First Lady from 1969-1974, forging her own graceful path between the protocols of the strait-laced mid-century and the bra-burning Sixties and Seventies. About Heath Hardage Lee: Heath Hardage Lee is an award-winning historian, biographer, and curator. Heath's second book, The League of Wives is being developed into a television series. Heath and her work have been featured on the Today Show, C-Span, and on the Smithsonian Channel's America's Hidden Stories. She also writes about history and politics for publications such as Time, The Hill, The Atlantic and White House History Quarterly. She lives in Roanoke, Virginia, with her husband Chris, her children Anne Alston and James, and her French bulldog Dolly Parton.

More Americans today than two decades ago rate their hobbies as “extremely” or “very important” to them, according to a recent Gallup Poll. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics also says that Americans spend about 5 hours a day on leisure activities and hobbies.Hobbies are not idols, but they become idols when we run to them as an escape and fail to remain in Jesus.

This aligns with the historical trend where party ID has been a strong predictor of national outcomes. Most Americans (65%) expect another assassination attempt against former President Trump before Election Day, according to a new Rasmussen survey. Ben talks about open ended questions like “how long have you felt this way” and “how best can I support you” to keep the conversation going. Ben also talks about grief/loss of changing family expectations—including the lives he once imagined as a father of two sons. Ben talks about the need for community of other LDS parents with transgender children. Ben continues with how the recent handbook changes (Aug 2024) negatively impact transgender Latter-day Saints and how the “border drawn in a new location and how his transgender daughters are now outside”. My heart aches as I see the painful impact of these handbook changes on LDS families with transgender members. Thank you, Ben (and your whole family), for sharing your story. It is a beautiful family love story. Thank you for giving all insights on how to better understand, see, and support our transgender/non-binary friends. Honored to have you on the podcast. As if FOMO were not enough, now we consider FOBO, or the fear of obsolescence, in this climate of ever changing technology. SHOW NOTES Obsolescence is a reduction in our competence as an employee resulting from a lack of knowledge of new work processes, techniques, and technologies that have developed since we completed our education - and that we have somehow missed out on acquiring. As humans we have been becoming obsolete since we stood up on two feet - the hunter gatherers became farmers, the farmers became factory workers and the factory workers have become technology and service industry workers. We know how to do this - on the macro level, as an economy and society. Trucking is a great example of worker obsolescence. In the early 20th century, truck drivers replaced the cart and horse for deliveries and now the promise of self-driving trucks, making truck drivers obsolete, has done a couple of things in the market - truckers are generally older and the wages have risen according to NPR. The mysterious threats and impacts of workforce obsolescence : NPR. Older workers with less time in the workforce are willing to keep or go into these jobs, but younger workers with more time to work are far less willing to enter an occupation that may very well go away. According to a recent Gallup Poll 22% of workers are worried that technological advancements will make their jobs obsolete, a 7% jump since 2021. The increase is being driven "almost entirely" by college-educated workers. The Gallup data shows that men and women currently express equitable trepidation levels when it comes to being replaced by technology. Good to know there is some equity in FOBO! Fearing obsolescence is not just self-doubt, rather, we fundamentally question our ability to participate in the workforce. When we experience this kind of fear, it can affect our behavior at work and our experience of ease, meaning and joy. In a study of counterproductive work behaviors, researchers found some common counterproductive work behaviors in workers who were experiencing FOBO: attention-seeking behavior; being hypervigilant; and drawing unhealthy comparisons. We can counteract FOBO by focusing our efforts on training - either for the current job or a new one; taking on new opportunities, saying yes and telling yourself the truth about your skills and your current job and its future - and being willing to consider what is next. If you're like many business owners, it's been hard to find good employees. It seems like the younger generation doesn't want to work and are lazy. Or at least that's what they say. But think about this, the baby boomers were also considered lazy when they were in their twenties and thirties. They were the hippies. Love not war. In other words, the older generation always thinks the younger generation is not as hard working as they are. So maybe it's not that the younger generation is lazy, they have a different set of values that they want to see reflected in their job. And if you look at what they value, you may find that they align well with yours. If you adjust how you lead the younger generation, you will find that you develop the most loyal employees and attract more of them. Listen to this episode to learn more. Riley Gaines, Sports when XX and XY compete, and the lack of advocacy for the majority position Women's sports advocate Riley Gaines says transgender inclusion in women's sports is supported by small numbers of Americans. She quotes a Gallup Poll showing more Democrats, Republicans, and Independents all see unfairness when someone born male takes away a roster position, a scholarship, or a sports record from a female athlete. Still the loudest voices are outshouting those majorities. In this first part of a two-part interview, Gaines tells Family Life News about the core issues at hand, and why women's sports should be set aside for women and girls. She also talks about Title IX, the Federal civil rights legislation which opened up educational and athletic opportunities for females starting more than 50 years ago. She credits that women's-rights movement for opening fabulous doors for her. However, as the U.S. President tries to change Title IX to take away women's opportunities and give them to athletes who "identify as female", she notes that 20+ states are not going along with the Biden Administration efforts. You can listen to Part Two of our exclusive interview with Riley Gaines on the May 31 Family Life News Podcast. More information about the Riley Gaines presentation in suburban Pittsburgh (Friday, May 31) is available from the Pennsylvania Family Institute. Riley Gaines won five Southeastern Conference swimming titles, and she is a twelve-time All American. Gaines set aside her dental career as she graduated from the University of Kentucky, after she tied for a trophy in a collegiate swimming competition, but that trophy went to a transgender athlete because an NCAA official decided that would make a better photo opportunity. She is a commentator for the news site Outkick.com, travels the nation as a speaker and supporter of girls in sports and schools, and takes part in legal challenges and political events.

That's the sum total of much of today's show. In all seriousness, the GOP social media scene (which is not reality) was on fire all weekend long on stories of infidelity, inappropriate public behavior, and interview answers from Trump on gender and abortion that Stigall tries to handle in a nuanced way. Of course, in 2023 - political nuance is mostly dead. But he soldiers on nevertheless. Plus, a vicious and cold blooded killing in Vegas, John Fetterman further erodes any shred of dignity left in Congress, and Russell Brand is accused of rape all of the sudden. - For more info visit the official website: https://chrisstigall.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chrisstigallshow/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/ChrisStigall Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/chris.stigall/ Listen on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/StigallPod Listen on Apple Podcasts: https://bit.ly/StigallShowSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
