This week on Grumpy Old Geeks, we're diving headfirst into the digital dumpster fire, starting with follow-up that will make you wonder if the rich are finally getting their comeuppance. It seems Tesla's market share is plummeting, and Elon Musk has been unceremoniously knocked off as the world's wealthiest person. Meanwhile, OpenAI and Microsoft are flirting with new partnership terms, and OpenAI is also reportedly cozying up with Oracle for a cloud computing deal. Are they figuring it all out or just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic? You decide. In the news, it's a feast of AI-induced chaos. Anthropic attempted to settle a copyright lawsuit for $1.5 billion, but a judge rejected it. Apple faces scrutiny for allegedly using pirated books to train AI (because who needs original ideas when you can just steal them?), and everyone from Reddit to Yahoo is rushing to get paid for their data being scraped by AI. Google even admits that the open web is struggling, while pushing ads into AI-generated answers and trying to convince us that DOGE never existed. Meanwhile, millions of YouTube videos have been copied by AI companies—because why create when you can just steal? Not to mention, The Boring Company reportedly stopped tunneling after a "crushing injury" (ironic, huh?), Zuckerberg and Palmer Luckey are teaming up again like a disastrous boy band for military-grade goggles, and Meta whistleblowers are exposing child safety issues. Plus, a hot mic caught Zuck groveling to Trump—the cringe is real. And if that wasn't enough, it turns out AI usage is actually declining at big companies, and programmers using AI are creating more security risks than a screen door on a submarine. It's almost like we saw this coming. For your Media Candy fix, get ready for a dose of existential dread. The MTV Video Music Awards are still happening in 2025, with a median viewer age of 56—because nothing screams "youth culture" like osteoporosis. We'll wonder if Wednesday (aka Charlie Sheen) is still winning and discuss Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Amazon Music is launching AI-powered playlists (because who needs a human DJ when you can have an algorithm that thinks it knows your soul?), and Deezer claims 28% of all new music is AI-generated. Taika Waititi is developing a "potentially disastrous" Fyre Fest musical (we're excited!), Foundation is renewed for season 4, and the HBO Max CEO thinks it's "way underpriced"—bless his heart. Plus, more Highlander reboot news that will probably disappoint, and a look at The Missi & Brooke Show and The Traitors Ireland. Finally, in Apps & Doodads, bad news for AirPods Live Translation in the EU, Evernote and WeTransfer's owner is buying Vimeo, and you need this pettable Poké Ball Tamagotchi-style toy. In The Dark Side with Dave, we'll discuss The Princess Bride, how tariffs are ruining hobbies, and who wants "slop for their ears." This episode shows that some things never change, and most things are just getting worse. One thing you should know about the iPhone launch is that there's... not usually a lot of other tech news around the iPhone launch. So David and Jake start this episode with some more information about the iPhone launch, including some controversial details we missed about the AirPods Pro 3 and the argument in favor of the crossbody strap. After that, with David back on the mic, it's time for a round of AI-focused hot takes with The Verge's Hayden Field. The gang talks ChatGPT, Claude, money, more money, and what counts as a real friend. (And money.) Finally, in the lightning round — yes, once again the LIGHTNING ROUND — the three co-hosts talk about Canon's confusing new camera, the future of Reddit, Claude's spreadsheet-y future, and much more. Since November of 2022, the country has been mesmerized by the events in the small town of Moscow, Idaho. Four well loved, beautiful young people had their lives not only taken from them but they were scrutinzed, turned upside down, investigated and doubted only to find out that a demented murderer decided to enact his own twisted desires. There are many outlets who have produced great content about the case. I have never wanted to cover something so big when other creators have more resources, time, access. But here is our story about the Idaho Four: Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle. "The Consult Podcast" does a remarkable job of profiling the murderer in a two part episode. "One Night in Idaho" by Liz Garbus on HBO MAX "The Idaho Student Murders,"" Peacock "The Idaho College Murders," Amazon, Hulu, Netflix

In honor of Matt Wolf's big wins at the Emmys this year--not only for "Pee-wee as Himself" as Best Documentary Feature, but for his own win as director of that documentary as well as picture editing for Damian Rodriguez--we are re-releasing our interview with him at Sundance earlier this year. As Director Matt Wolf shows in his insightful and fun 2-part HBO series “Pee-wee as Himself”, in Pee-wee, Paul Rubens found a persona that allowed him to both reveal and yet hide some core truths about who he was. Fascinated with television and show business since he was a boy, Rubens combined elements of his childhood's pop culture with the art world of Southern California in the 70s and early 80s to craft a character that would both conquer the then punkish milieu of Melrose Avenue as well as create a nationally televised children's TV show. To achieve this, Wolfe delineates how Rubens deliberately foreclosed both his potential love life as well as cast aside long-held friendships. Wolfe's series demonstrates both the costs as well as the benefits of outsized talent and ambition. You can watch “Pee-wee as Himself” on HBO and HBO Max starting Friday, May 23rd. Follow: @mattpwolf on Instagram @topdocspod on Instagram and X The Presenting Sponsor of "Top Docs" is Netflix.

Amazon may be muscling into the field of augmented reality glasses. According to a report by The Information, sources claimed that the company is working on AR glasses for consumers, allegedly with plans to release the product in late 2026 or early 2027. In other news, David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, plans to make HBO more expensive, and passwords a lot harder to share, according to The Hollywood Reporter. And, Lyft and May Mobility have teamed up to launch a fleet of autonomous vehicles in Atlanta. It's a pilot program, so it's currently only available to Lyft riders in the area of midtown Atlanta. The companies promise a "measured, safety-first approach" with this rollout. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

The Next Best Series Podcast is back with Megan Lachinski, Giovanni Lago, Nadia Dalimonte, Daniel Howat, and Alyssa Christian for Episode 55, where they discuss the latest television shows and, more importantly, reveal their final winner predictions for the 77th Annual Emmy Primetime Awards on Sunday, September 14th. We hope you enjoy us arguing over who we think will win in the writing, directing, acting, and series categories. Will Apple dominate with "The Studio" and "Severance?" Or will HBO Max come up from behind with "Hacks" and "The Pitt?" What will "The Penguin" walk away with? Is "Adolescence" also going to steamroll the evening? Please tune in and find out. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesRight after our episode last week, our pal James Gunn dropped big news on Wednesday - the next Superman film written by him will be called Man of Tomorrow. Gunn, David Corneswet, and others involved shared particular artwork by DC Comics President Jim Lee that showed Lex Luthor in a mech suit to make the announcement. In typical Gunn fashion, the DC Studios co-chair has teased this film isn't a direct sequel, but is the next installment in what he calls the “Superman saga.” The film's title is reminiscent of the Milly Alcock led Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which releases next year. In other DC movie news, Weapons director Zach Cregger addressed rumors that have been circulating about his involvement with a Joker and Harley Quinn movie. Cregger called stories about him having written a treatment for the two iconic DC villains “blown out of proportion,” but did indicate that he has a couple of films he's interested in working on, though he hasn't spoken with James Gunn yet.At the Toronto International Film Festival last Friday, Ryan Reynolds finally admitted the internet's worst kept secret - that he was the one who leaked the original Deadpool test footage in 2014 to the world wide web. Reynolds went on to say that Fox simply didn't seem interested in releasing an R-rated superhero movie and his passion for the character led him to the extreme action, which he doesn't regret. Fans of Deadpool are likely forever grateful that Reynolds did what he did, which led to pressure on the studio to make the film a reality. In other questionable swings from stars both in front of and behind the camera, The Russos released a blurry image with the caption #Doomsday Is Coming via Instagram earlier today. No last rites are being read for horror at the box office this year, as the supposed final installment in the Conjuring universe, The Conjuring: Last Rites, raked in $84 million domestically this weekend for its opening. This massive box office marks the best for this franchise ever, and the third biggest opening for a horror film of all-time. Warner Brothers and New Line are laughing all the way to the bank, having projected a $35 million opening box office and the movie cost about $55 million to make. The film's global take as of today is $194 million. In other Conjuring news, a series in development at HBO Max set in the universe took a big step forward today, hiring Nancy Won as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, who will write the series alongside Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires. The Office spin off The Paper, which debuted its first season last week has been renewed for a second season on Peacock.Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Nia DaCosta's “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple," the follow up to this year's 28 Years Later. The film is set to release on January 16.Prime Video has confirmed rumors that Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner will play Lara Croft in its Tomb Raider series from creator, writer and co-showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Production on the series will begin in January.John C. McGinley has joined the cast of ABC's Scrubs reboot and will reprise his role as Dr. Perry Cox from the original series. He joins fellow returnees Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison and Judy Reyes in the cast. The White Lotus creator Mike White and HBO have zeroed in on France as the location for the upcoming fourth season of the hit murder mystery comedy-drama series, sources tell Deadline. Two time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou has joined the cast of Amazon MGM's reboot of Highlander, the Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. The first trailer for Rian Johnson's upcoming Knives Out film Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man has been released. The film is set for release in select theaters Nov. 26 before its streaming debut December 12.

Welcome back to Wrestling Tonight, your weekly deep dive into everything happening across WWE, AEW, NJPW, TNA, ROH, and beyond. Episode 141 covers a packed slate of returns, retirements, controversies, and major updates shaping the wrestling world. We begin with the biggest story of the week: AJ Lee's long-awaited WWE return. On SmackDown in Chicago, Lee appeared for the first time in a decade to confront Becky Lynch, dropping her with a Thesz press before celebrating with CM Punk. We'll cover the industry-wide reactions, from Saraya and Bayley to the official MLB account, and discuss WWE's reported plans to team Lee and Punk against Lynch and Seth Rollins at Wrestlepalooza. Next, we turn to John Cena's farewell tour, where his final stop in Chicago ended with a surprise Brock Lesnar return that set up their Wrestlepalooza main event. While many speculated Boston would host his retirement match, it has now been confirmed that Cena's final match will take place on December 13 in Washington, D.C. at Saturday Night's Main Event. We'll run through his remaining schedule and reflect on what this moment means for one of WWE's greatest stars. From there, we shift to AEW, where Will Ospreay is set for neck surgery that will sideline him for months after battling through injuries at Forbidden Door. We'll also look at AEW's evolving PPV strategy, as All Out becomes the first AEW show available on HBO Max at a discounted $39.99, and the start time has been moved up to 3 p.m. Eastern to avoid a direct clash with WWE's Wrestlepalooza. With Adam Copeland & Christian Cage vs. FTR the first announced match, we discuss the significance of this new distribution model and what it means for AEW's future. On the WWE side, AJ Styles continues to tease retirement, posting a symbolic hourglass graphic as reports confirm his contract expires in early 2026. Meanwhile, Chris Jericho addressed his AEW future, saying he's open to a WWE return once his current deal concludes at year's end. We unpack how both men are positioning their final career chapters. Finally, we examine Matt Riddle's latest controversy, as he no-showed Global Wrestling Kingdom's debut charity event in the UK, only to wrestle unadvertised in Florida the same day. With conflicting accounts between Riddle and the promotion, we review the fallout, his repayment of the deposit, and what this means for his standing on the independent circuit. All this plus updates from across the industry as WWE and AEW prepare for one of the most pivotal months of the year. Be sure to support the show at patreon.com/theturnbuckletavern for exclusive content, and follow us on social media @TurnbuckleTavern for all the latest updates. Until next Monday, when we wine and dine with you kings and queens, stay out of the alley and away from the pork and beans: good luck and good speed.

In this episode, I get a few minutes with the star of the HBO/Max hit, The Pitt. We talk about his commitment to the accuracy of the ED care as well as a message to emergency physicians.
Today on What's My Frame I'm joined by Writer & Executive Producer Richard Keith. Richard was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, and grew up in the small mountain town of Beech Mountain, where he was a competitive alpine ski racer through high school before moving to New York to pursue a career in entertainment. He began as an actor, appearing in dozens of commercials and recurring on series such as NCIS and Grey's Anatomy.Richard later transitioned to writing and producing. His first feature, Fall, developed with Rob Reiner, never made it to the screen. He's now developing it into a novel with his longtime writing partner, Erin Cardillo. The pair began collaborating in the mid-2010s, and their first pilot won the New York Television Festival's comedy pilot competition, landing them a development deal at FOX. Shortly after, they partnered with Alloy Entertainment to create Significant Mother for CW Seed, which was picked up to series by The CW and premiered on August 3, 2015.Since then, Cardillo & Keith have sold more than ten broadcast pilots to NBC, ABC, FOX, HBO Max, and The CW—including three in a single pilot season, prompting Deadline in 2019 to call them “the most prolific writers in broadcast television.” Their first hourlong pilot, Life Sentence, developed with Doozer Productions and Warner Bros. Television, went to series and premiered on The CW in 2018 (now streaming on Tubi). In 2019, the duo signed a two-year overall deal at Warner Bros., focusing on adaptations and IP for the studio, under their banner, In Good Company.Beyond development, Cardillo & Keith served as Co-EPs on Fuller House and are currently Executive Producers on Netflix's longest-running drama series, Virgin River, now entering its eighth season. In features, the duo adapted Katherine Center's bestselling novel The Bodyguard into a film that is set to star Jared Padalecki and they have two other features in development they're not allowed to talk about. When not in the writers' room, Keith lives in Mammoth Lakes, California, with his wife, two kids, two dogs, and a reasonable amount of cats. And he still ski races with the adult masters team—because growing up is overrated.-What's My Frame, hosted by Laura Linda BradleyJoin the WMF creative community now!Instagram: @whatsmyframeIMDbWhat's My Frame? official siteWhat's My Frame? merch
HBO has reteamed with the writer of Mare of Easttown for what is hoped to be another awards contender, this year. The premiere is surprisingly funny even as the tone of the show gets grimmer.

Andrew Zarian is back from a summer break with an all-new Sunday edition of Wrestling Observer Live, catching up on all things professional wrestling. I start out catching up on things that happened this summer on my break, including the partnership between ESPN and WWE to carry all the PLEs. Why are they doing it, will it work, and how will it be perceived on a sports-centric network? The big story of the week happened on Friday Night SmackDown with the return of AJ Lee to confront Becky Lynch after she again attacked CM Punk in a well-done segment. I discuss the differences between when she left and the current landscape of women's wrestling, which she's now entering. I also discuss this week's AEW Collision, including FTR's presentation as 1980's throwback heels, and the nostalgic presentation in the 2300 arena. But does it resonate with a larger viewing audience? Plus, HBO Max is carrying AEW PPVs, Bryan Danielson is now on the AEW announce team, a Dynamite preview, and MJF gets married.

On this episode of The Best Thing We Watched This Week, Ruben and Chris talk about the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's The Long Walk, the new HBO Max crime drama TASK, plus the Netflix reality-docuseries Love Con Revenge. September's going to be a busy month, we can tell already. We took a week off at the end of the summer but we're coming in hot to start the fall here at Breakfast All Day. Supposedly "The Conjuring: Last Rites" is the final film in the franchise -- it says so right there in the title! -- but nothing ever really ends. This is once again the scariest case Ed and Lorraine Warren have ever taken, something to do with a haunted mirror. You've seen it all before, but Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are committed to the bit as always. In theaters. Then we review both Spike Lee's "Highest 2 Lowest" and Akira Kurosawa's "High and Low," the 1963 film that inspired it. The new one stars Denzel Washington as a music industry titan fighting a kidnapping scheme; Toshiro Mifune played a shoe company executive in the original. They have similar bones but are extremely different in how they tell their stories. The Kurosawa film is one of his greats, and Lee's latest is his most purely entertaining movie in a while. (At least one of us thought so.) You can catch "Highest 2 Lowest" on Apple TV+, while "High and Low" is on HBO Max and The Criterion Channel. Finally, we did a lengthy Movie News LIVE! Lots to talk about with fall festival season beginning, plus new trailers including "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple," and the gross use of AI to complete Orson Welles' "The Magnificent Ambersons." Join us every Friday at Noon Pacific at our YouTube channel. Thanks for being here! Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter: https://christylemire.beehiiv.com/

Es extraordinario, puritito Brit School, from London UK, Olivia Dean.

The guys start out getting caught up on their personal lives and what's been happening while they took the summer off. The big story appears to be the return of AJ Lee to the WWE as early as this week's Smackdown show, based on an angle with CM Punk and Becky Lynch on this week's Raw. They discuss what the working plan might be with possible involvement from Rhea Ripley, and how they might use her going forward. Also, John Cena's retirement tour is wrapping up at the end of the year, and what are some of the matches he can still have after one last Brock Lesnar match? Plus, WWE's partnership with ESPN for PLEs, AEW PPVs on HBO MAX, Street Fighter Movie, all your questions, and more!
