Presentatie: Robert Denneman

Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes.Avengers: Secret Wars doesn't seem so far away these days, especially with the surprise announcement from Deadline that A Quiet Place and Hamnet star Noah Jupe is the first to land a new, secret role in the film. We're on the precipice of Avengers: Doomsday this December and still don't know much about the plot, but that doesn't mean we're not ready to speculate! The MCU continues to pile on record-breaking stats, with the Avengers: Endgame Encore trailer garnering 77 million views within the first 24-hours of its release. This shatters any previously held record for a re-released film trailer; that number is more than four times any other amount. Spider-Man: Brand New Day took the number one spot at the box office again this weekend and has passed Avengers: Endgame to become the second highest grossing domestic film of all time. At number two, Ketchup Entertainment's theatrical rescue of Warner Bros Animation's Coyote vs. Acme hit its forecast with a very solid $15.4 million opening. 20th Century Studios' Ridley Scott dystopian future Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, and Josh Brolin movie, Dog Stars, had a low $8 million opening off a $70 million production cost. Casper Kelly's horror comedy Buddy took the number six spot at the domestic box office with $5.36 million, a solid start for a film that was released on less than 1,800 total screens. In an interview with The L.A. Times, Ridley Scott confirmed that there is a sequel to 2017's Alien: Covenant in active development. He said the film “will pick up with David (Fassbender) creating a ‘brave new world for himself." Tim Curry who rose to fame in Hollywood for his iconic roles in It, Clue, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show has passed away at the age of 80. Anne Hathaway has joined the cast of Days of Thunder 2 at Paramount alongside returning star Tom Cruise. Paramount has also announced that the film will be released June 2, 2028. HBO Max released the first full trailer for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The series will premiere over Christmas.Showrunner Tom King confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Nathan Fillion will reprise his role of Green Lantern Guy Gardner in the DCU for the upcoming animated Mister Miracle series.Netflix has released the first trailer for East of Eden, Zoe Kazan's adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel that stars Florence Pugh. The limited series is seven episodes long and will begin streaming on October 1.

It wasn't long ago when studios took the biggest jewels of their fall slates — the Gravitys and Jokers and First Mans — to the Venice Film Festival to kick off awards season and put A-list talent on a gondola. But this year, not so much: The Venice lineup is light on flashy studio premieres — don't look for Tom Cruise and Digger or Timothée Chalamet and Dune: Part Three or Jeremy Strong and The Social Reckoning — and heavy on indie and international titles. Elaine Low and Sean McNulty talk to Ankler awards editor and Prestige Junkie host Katey Rich about how the studio calculus on festival season has shifted — and how best picture winner One Battle After Another was a canary in the coal mine for this year's underwhelming slate. Then: Katey sticks around to talk with Elaine and Natalie Jarvey about the top Emmy storylines — including the Television Academy's controversial decision to boot major categories from the primetime show (sorry, David Harbour and Dakota Fanning) and why, with the final season of Hacks and prohibitive drama frontrunner The Pitt leading the way, this could be the last stand for HBO Max before the merger. Also: Elaine and Sean on Donald Trump‘s sudden renewed enthusiasm to bring production back to Hollywood and why there's actual bipartisan support for federal film and TV tax incentives. Voice Of Costume - Creating Character through Costume Design
Talking Big Bang Theory spinoffs to superhero suits and 3D-printed icicles — costume design 'behind the seams' at its best! Costume designer Valerie Klarich returns to Voice of Costume to unpack her wild ride designing "Stuart Fails to Save the Universe," the HBO Max spinoff of The Big Bang Theory. Valerie shares how a decade-long friendship with Lauren Lapkus (Orange Is the New Black) led to the job of a lifetime, and how she battled imposter syndrome before landing it. She dives deep into the creative process behind dressing familiar characters across wildly different dimensions — post-apocalyptic wastelands, 1950s primitive worlds, and comic-book superhero universes — all while honoring original designer Mary Quigley's iconic Big Bang Theory looks for nostalgic fans. Hear how Valerie built roughly 75 costumes for a single 25-minute episode, used 3D body scanning and fabric printing to create Mr. Freeze's icicle-textured suit, and paid tribute to classic Stuart Bloom with an exact plaid-and-robot-tee callback. Plus, behind-the-scenes stories of dressing guest stars Penn & Teller, Weird Al, and Wil Wheaton (including his surprise Star Trek reunion with director Jonathan Franks!). Valerie also opens up about leading a 17-person costume department with collaboration and humor at its core, and teases what's ahead for season two. A must-listen for costume design lovers, Big Bang Theory fans, TV production nerds, and anyone curious about the magic of superhero costume creation.

Catie's Case: The Lindsay Clancy Trial Catie takes a deep dive into one of the most complicated and emotionally charged criminal trials in the country. Lindsay Clancy is charged in the January 2023 deaths of her three children—Cora, Dawson and Callan—at the family's home in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Clancy has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. The facts of what happened are largely undisputed. The trial instead centers on Clancy's mental state and whether she was legally responsible for her actions. Her defense argues that Clancy was experiencing severe postpartum psychosis, had undergone extensive psychiatric treatment and medication changes, and had lost touch with reality when she killed the children. Defense expert Dr. Phillip Resnick testified that she was psychotic at the time. Prosecutors argue that although Clancy suffered from significant mental-health problems, she still understood right from wrong. They point to evidence they say demonstrates organization and planning, including sending her husband Patrick out of the house on errands before the killings. Patrick Clancy's testimony became one of the trial's most emotional moments. He described Lindsay as a loving mother before her mental-health decline and said she had never previously expressed a desire to harm the children. The trial ultimately became a battle between competing psychiatric interpretations: was this a deliberate murder committed by someone suffering from depression and other mental-health problems, or the catastrophic result of postpartum psychosis severe enough to eliminate criminal responsibility? After testimony from more than 80 witnesses over roughly five weeks, jurors began deliberating on August 27. And they still haven't reached a verdict. As of August 31, the jury has deliberated for approximately 17 hours across three days. Jurors have requested to review physical evidence including prescription bottles and the knife Clancy used during her suicide attempt. The available verdicts are not simply “guilty” or “not guilty.” Depending on how jurors interpret Clancy's intent and mental state, they may consider first-degree murder, second-degree murder, manslaughter or a finding that she was not criminally responsible because of mental illness. If the jury ultimately finds her not guilty by reason of insanity, that would not necessarily mean Clancy simply goes free. She could instead be committed to a psychiatric hospital, potentially for an extended period. The case has also forced a much broader conversation about postpartum psychosis, how seriously severe postpartum psychiatric symptoms are treated, and whether the medical system failed to recognize just how sick Clancy had become. Also in this episode: The U.S.–Iran war heats up again as Trump declares Iran “dead,” threatens additional strikes and shares AI-generated footage depicting an attack that apparently never occurred. The Supreme Court, USPS and the Trump administration collide over mail voting while election officials warn that thousands of otherwise valid ballots are arriving too late to be counted. Texas Republicans begin asking uncomfortable questions about changes to the state's $3 billion-plus broadband program that benefited Elon Musk's Starlink. Meta reportedly discovers a flaw in its plan to replace huge portions of its workforce with artificial intelligence: humans still have to fix everything the AI screws up. It's episode 3, and we all have some feelings. Have you ever wanted to get yelled at by Iain? Great, here's your chance! Find out why episode 3 gets Iain upset. Is it too much time traveling? Not enough linear story? Maybe the writers are saving the cliffhanger reveals. There's certainly enough psychopaths in the show, and we're not including the podcast host. Let us know what you thought of episode 3 in the comments! This Lanterns edition of Watching Now is a podcast from Couch Soup. Dean Lorey.Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Dean Lorey. Dean is a screenwriter for such films as 'Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday' (Friday the 13th part 9), and 'Major Payne' as well as TV shows 'Arrested Development' & 'The Crazy Ones'. He has also been the show runner for shows like 'Harley Quinn' the animated series, 'Kite Man: Hell Yeah!', and 'Creature Commandos'. In this episode, Dean and I chat about how he got into screenwriting, and he shares some of his experiences on his early projects. Naturally we discuss how he came to write 'Fitness Confidential' with Vinnie Tortorich and Dean shares some hilarious Vinnie stories. Then we each share our own personal stories of the moment that we each found out that we are bald. Next, we jump into Dean's experiences writing the Damon Wayans vehicle 'Major Payne' and a possible upcoming sequel. Then, we talk about the television show 'The Crazy Ones' and what it was like to meet and work with an American icon like Robin Williams. I ask a ton of questions about how Dean was able to juggle working on FOUR shows at the same time. Dean was working on: 'Harley Quinn', 'Kite Man', 'Creature Commandos', and 'Poppa's House' all at the same time! Finally, we close out the show discussing Dean's involvement with the television show 'Arrested Development' in the later seasons, one thing we did not talk about this time, is Dean's 'ONE THING' series of videos on Instagram, where he discusses 'One Thing' he learned while making TV & film projects. Definitely go check out this new and fun series on Dean's Instagram account. It will be worth the watch, I promise!
