Here's a cleaned-up version that keeps your voice while tightening the flow: On a shorthanded midweek show, we welcomed back Steve, who never hesitates to step up when the team needs him. We appreciate his honesty, candor, and willingness to donate his time to the cause as we recover out loud and carry the message to those still suffering. With just a couple of months to go before reaching the two-year mark, we celebrated that milestone with Steve and our audience. There's something special about watching people you care about finally "get it." Tried and tested, giving away what was so freely given to us remains one of the best ways to stay sober. As Men's Health Month continues, awareness around men's mental health is growing, largely because the stigma around saying, "I'm not okay," is beginning to fade. Admitting that you're struggling isn't weakness—it takes strength—and that message is becoming more accepted, especially within the world of addiction recovery. What happens when a career-ending injury is followed by years of failed treatments, multiple surgeries, and no clear answers? In this episode, Sergeant of Investigations, Tim Putney, shares his journey through chronic pain after an on-duty injury nearly ended his law enforcement career and sent him on a years-long search for answers. What began as a single on-duty injury became a years-long road marked by chronic back pain, failed spine surgeries, a spinal cord stimulator, workers' compensation battles, and dead ends. Joining the conversation is VSI spine surgeon Dr. Ehsan Jazini, who discusses why some patients continue to struggle with pain despite previous treatments and spine surgeries, what is often missed in complex cases, and how the right diagnosis can uncover solutions that others may have overlooked. Together, they explore: Failed back surgery and persistent pain The impact of chronic pain on mental health Challenges first responders face after injury Modern spine treatments and recovery advancements Why getting the right diagnosis matters Released during Men's Health Month, this episode highlights a challenge many men face but rarely discuss openly: chronic pain impacts far more than physical health. It can affect identity, relationships, mental health, and the ability to do the things that matter most. Most importantly, Tim shares how he was able to return to the life he thought he'd lost—including walking his daughter down the aisle. If you've been told to "just live with it," this conversation offers something many patients desperately need to hear: you may not be out of options. June is National Men's Health Month, and OSF St. Luke's is urging men across the Tri-Counties to stop putting off routine care. Samantha Rucks told Wake Up Tri-Counties that many men wait until pain or symptoms become serious before seeing a provider, which can make treatment harder. She says annual physicals, lab work, and age-appropriate screenings for prostate cancer, colon cancer, diabetes, blood pressure, and cholesterol can catch problems early. Rucks says men should build a relationship with a primary care provider before health issues arise. To connect with OSF in Kewanee, call 309-852-7700.

Caller Questions & Discussion: Becky shares that June is Men's Health Month, highlighting how many common myths can prevent men from seeking help for mental health challenges, emotional health struggles, and relational issues that deeply impact families. My friend told me that my husband might be a narcissist. He likes to be left alone, doesn't do much with the kids, and likes to keep stuff even though we don't have room. Is he a narcissist? I just found out that my husband took our daughter into a crack house when she was 7 or 8 and allowed her to be sexually abused. How can I approach my daughter 30 years after this happened? My stepson moved to live with his girlfriend in Spokane, and he won't speak to the family anymore. Where do I go with this? How am I able to move forward if my husband had a child with another woman? He cheated 2 months before we got married!

June is Men's Health Month, a time to focus not only on physical health but also on emotional well-being. Many men work hard, provide for their families, and carry responsibilities quietly. Yet when it comes to talking about emotions, many find it difficult. Understanding why this happens can help men open up and help families support them better. From a young age, many boys are taught to "be strong," "man up," or "don't cry." While resilience is important, these messages can sometimes create the belief that showing emotions is a sign of weakness.Over time, many men learn to hide sadness, fear, disappointment, or anxiety. The result is not that men do not have emotions—they simply become experts at keeping them hidden.

Full Description Content note: This episode discusses suicide and medical assistance in dying. Support: call or text 9-8-8 anytime in Canada. Zack Heil was at a Subway in Hamilton at 1am when something small changed his life. A homeless woman couldn't afford her sub. He bought it for her, and she told him no one had ever done that for her before. He went home and started a men's mental health movement that night. He's 19. Trevor McLaughlin is on the other side of the conversation. In 2022, he applied for therapy in Ontario and was told the wait was 14 months. His next phone call was to ask how to apply for medical assistance in dying. He's still here. In June 2027, he's biking 8,200 kilometres across Canada through a campaign called Annihilate the Walls. Hosts Mike Cameron and Trevor Botkin sit down with both of them. Two men recognizing each other across a twelve-year gap. One figuring it out in real time. One who's been to the bottom and back. In recognition of National Women's Health Month, this episode of Thinking Thoracic analyzes the evolving landscape of female-specific lung cancer care. Co-hosts Dr. Erin Gillaspie and Dr. Jane Yanagawa sit down with guest Dr. Leah Backhus to discuss a critical disparity: lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women, yet screening practices remain inequitable. This timely episode moves beyond smoking history to examine the rise of lung cancer in never-smokers and Asian women. From the "stigma" of a diagnosis to innovative solutions like co-scheduling screenings with mammograms, providing a powerful call to action for more inclusive, biomarker-driven care.
It's Women's Health Month — which means a lot of awareness messaging and a lot of conversation about why women's health matters. But today, we're going a level deeper. Because awareness doesn't save lives. Action does. Infrastructure does. Investment does. And honest conversations about why the system isn't working equally for everyone — those matter too. My guest today is Jenica Patterson — a neuroscientist turned health systems architect who is doing the hard work of figuring out why women's health is so chronically underinvested and what it will take to fix it. She leads the Women's Health Network at the Milken Institute, one of the most powerful cross-sector coalitions in this space. Before that, she built a $113 million federal program at ARPA-H (the Advanced Research Project Agency for Health) specifically designed to fast track innovation in women's health. Komen is focused on breast health access — and the sobering reality that where you live and what you look like still determine whether you get a timely mammogram, an accurate diagnosis or the best possible care. Jenica has the research, the relationships and the conviction to tell us exactly why that is — and what's possible. Key Takeaways: Women's health inequities are systemic, not individual. Nearly 30% of U.S. counties do not have a mammography machine. Women's health has historically been underrepresented in research and clinical development. Innovation alone is not enough without integration. Momentum in women's health is growing. Chapters 00:00 Jenica Patterson's journey from neuroscience to women's health systems leadership 05:45 Why women's health is at a major inflection point 08:40 The shocking mammography access gaps across the United States 14:02 Why solving women's health requires system-wide integration 20:03 Where momentum and hope are growing in women's health equity Learn more at realpink.komen.org and komen.org breastcancer #survivorship #womenshealth #cancersupport #realpink Real Pink, by Susan G. Welcome back to Appearance Matters: The Podcast! To mark Women's Health Month, Ella speaks to Dr Sophie Williams, Assistant Subject Lead for Psychology at University of Derby, and Trainee Health Psychologist, Dr Laura Falconer, UK-based Health Psychologist at Reed Wellbeing, and Dr Melissa Pehlivan, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the InsideOut Institute, University of Sydney, Australia about their research into the conditions PMOS (formerly PCOS) and endometriosis. They talk about how these conditions affect far more than just the reproductive system, including how they can lead to feeling a lack of control, impact quality of life and a person's relationship with their body. The conversation also covers the renewed NHS Women's Health Strategy, and how its proposed changes aim to improve research and move towards more integrated, holistic care. Finally, they discuss what approaches can help with the psychological impact of PMOS/PCOS and endometriosis, and how health professionals can best support patients by making them feel validated. Cattitude - Cat podcast about cats as pets on Pet Life Radio (PetLifeRadio.com)
On this special National Cat Health Month episode of Cattitude, host Michelle Fern does something she doesn't usually do — talk about a product. But this one is worth it. Michelle welcomes Jennifer Cookson, Director of R&D Innovation at PrettyLitter, to discuss an innovative “smart” litter designed to help cat parents monitor their cat's health at home. Cats are famously stoic and often hide signs of illness until it becomes serious. Jennifer explains how PrettyLitter's color-changing crystals respond to shifts in urine pH and the presence of blood, helping pet parents track patterns over time and have more informed conversations with their veterinarians. The episode dives into the science behind amorphous silica (and why it's safe), dust control, multi-cat households, odor performance, and why early detection matters more than many cat parents realize. It's not about replacing your vet — it's about empowering cat parents with better insight and peace of mind. Plus: use promo code PETLIFE for 20% off your first order of PrettyLitter!
