These are the questions I ask my guests, to learn more about them and what they would do if the ball was completely in their court. My name is Caleb Vander Esch. I am originally from San Jose, CA. Currently, I play football for the University of South Dakota, and I host this podcast. A big part of my college experience has been learning about different perspectives. Northern California to eastern South Dakota, very different places. D.C.R is about talking with people from different backgrounds and with different ways of thinking. Everyone has a story and a unique perspective of reality and I want to hear them all.
Sheila Gestring is the President of the University of South Dakota. We talked about how the school has gone about handling COVID-19 and how they are planning to go about it moving forward. We also talked about the development of USD, the town of Vermillion, and how she envisions the growth of both to continue.
This is a really powerful conversation with Brandon. He was willing to talk about his story about going through the adoption process. From bouncing around foster homes to getting adopted and growing up in a small Wisconsin town, which is not the easiest thing to do when you and your siblings are black. We also go into what is happening in the country today with the protests and much more.
I had a blast talking with my former teammate and now Arizona Cardinals QB Chris Streveler. We talked about his time in the CFL, how he ended up in Arizona, his time as a zookeeper, and his desire to travel.
Darrell Vander Esch is my dad's cousin who I have been able to spend a lot more time with over the past 4 years since I have been in South Dakota. We talked about his roots of growing up on a farm in Iowa, his experience playing college football, and his journey as business owner. He is insightful and intelligent and it was great being able to sit down and talk with him.
Clete McLeod is the Head Strength Coach at The University of South Dakota. He served in the military right out of high school and has since had jobs around the world involved with health and training. From working under the Crown Prince in Bahrain to assisting, at the time, Senator Barrack Obama, Coach Clete (to me) had a lot of awesome stories and I had a great time talking with him.
