Les armes de la critique Joanna Van der Heyden Joanna Van der Heyden werpt een intrigerende blik op hoe muziekjournalisten tussen 1830 en 1880 via smaak, roddel en ideologie de burgerlijke identiteit mee vormgaven en het maatschappelijke debat beïnvloedden. Tussen 1830 en 1880 speelden muziekjournalisten een invloedrijke rol in het muzikale en maatschappelijke leven. Ze begeleidden luisteraars in hun muzieksmaak en presenteerden muziek als een middel tot sociale regulering, terwijl ze ook ruimte lieten voor roddel en sensatie. Vanuit een overwegend antiklerikale, liberale en stedelijke invalshoek droegen zij bij aan het sociale en politieke discours. Hun positie stelde hen in staat om burgerlijke normen te verspreiden en de waardering voor de West-Europese muziekcultuur te bevorderen. Vrouwelijke musici en publiek werden getoetst aan conventies; emancipatorische stemmen klonken nauwelijks. De muziekpers bewaakte als het ware de burgerlijke identiteit. Bio Joanna Van der Heyden Joanna Van der Heyden (°1952) studeerde geschiedenis en criminologie aan de VUB. In december 2024 verdedigde ze aan de Universiteit Antwerpen haar proefschrift “Les armes de la critique” - Het sociaal- cultureel narratief van de muziekjournalist: Belgische muziek- en kunsttijdschriften en hun melomaan publiek (1830-1880). Ze bouwde een loopbaan uit bij BRT3, Radio 3 en Klara als presentator, recensent en producer. Lang leve de Airshow! De Airshow is méér dan een mooie herinnering. Vraag het maar aan Martin Schoonderbeek. De man achter de Wings of Freedom airshow op een weiland in Ede! Martin is een ware Top Gun in Balanceren van Prioriteiten. De Serieuze Spotter plezieren. De Kenner behagen. De Standhouder tevreden houden. En vooral ook het klootjesvolk massaal doen toestromen, al kan dat geen Concorde van een Spitfire onderscheiden. Een kwaliteit die hij deelt met Ed de Bruijn die vele jaren lang de grootste vliegshow van Nederland programmeerde en ongelofelijke vliegtuigen naar Nederland haalde. Alsof dat nog niet genoeg is wist hij Texel te overspoelen met tienduizenden kijkers naar zijn Texel Airshow die zijn vliegveld en het eiland ver oversteeg. Wat te denken van Tom van der Meulen. Trotse tweede generatie bezitter en vlieger van Oostwold Airport. Hij haalde – bijna – een compleet squadron Warbirds naar dat kleine dorp in het mooie Groningen.Meesters zijn Ed, Tom en Martin in het bijeenbrengen van unieke vliegtuigen, in het bespelen van sponsoren en misschien wel het allerbelangrijkste: de Overheid te vriend houden, met haar eindeloze regels en voorschriften: Lokaal, Provinciaal en Landelijk. Martin Schoonderbeek weet hoe het moet. Tom laat zich niet kisten en Ed, die krijgt het voor elkaar. Maar het is wel uiterst gecompliceerd. Dat leggen ze uit aan Goof & Goot. En aan u, natuurlijk, als u tenminste wil luisteren!     

Hoe zorgen we ervoor dat jongeren voor techniek kiezen, dat onderwijs en bedrijven beter samenwerken, en dat Zuid-Holland haar enorme kennispositie ook echt verzilvert? In deze aflevering gaat Louis Hueber in gesprek met Doekle Terpstra, bestuurlijk verkenner van de MICS (Metropolitan Innovation Campus Schiedam) en Joost van der Veen, directeur van Beethoven Zuid-Holland.  

Wouter van der Toorn werd noodgedwongen rouwdeskundige toen zijn zusje Anneleen zichzelf van het leven beroofde. Er ging misbruik door hun vader aan vooraf, maar zijn familie ontkent ieder verband. Vander Warner first picked up the guitar at age ten and began taking lessons from Tim Martin through middle school and his junior year of high school. After a few early band attempts, he joined Relinquish (2009–2010) and later Savannah Shoulders (2010–2012), all while playing regularly in church.Following a few years away from performing, Vander rediscovered his passion for music after moving to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he began playing in church again and later joined the country band Rebels Fox. In 2021, he relocated to Nashville, where he quickly immersed himself in the local music scene—performing original gigs, playing Broadway shows with a wide range of artists, and touring with acts such as the Matt Bennett Band, Brandon Wisham, and Love and Theft.

41 South African men and women were among about 1,000 human trafficking victims who made a dramatic escape in Southeast Asia the past week. In this interview with BizNews, Emma van der Walt, the Founder of Brave to Love, the Counter Trafficking NGO that is working to bring them home, tells Chris Steyn how they were lured to Thailand with false job promises, forcibly transported across the border into Myanmar, and held inside the KK Park scamming compound where they were trained to conduct online romance, cryptocurrency and investment scams. “…And then people start investing and once they're investing they lose all their money because it's fake cryptocurrency sites and…it is definitely, I believe a weapon of war that is targeting specific groups for financial war…” Van der Walt says some of the victims were badly assaulted, while some were even raped. Following their escape, one group of South Africans was also held hostage by corrupt military officials - and three other victims are in prison for overstaying the visas. “They are victims of trafficking, but these mafia groups work with the military in Myanmar and have actually given them over to the corrupt officials.”

Professor Sander van der Linden explores the impact of misinformation and how to prevent its spread within the general public. His work as Professor of Social Psychology at the University of Cambridge and Director of the Cambridge Social Decision-Making Lab focuses on the origins of "fake news" and its role in societal divisions.  In this conversation with Will Hutton, he discusses his research into proactive strategies like "pre-bunking" to build defences against manipulation through misinformation. His lab has created a game called Get Bad News aimed at building psychological resistance against online misinformation.
