The incredibly geeky Alex Wade joins me for a jibber jabber about the state of the world of pest control. We talk about Alex's new consultancy company and how he offers his giant technical brain for technical inspections on audited sites. We also get into the new launch of calciferol and get mildly technical about how new actives come to market. There are laughs, there are tears, there are obscure chats about mushrooms and Cromwell, but it always comes back to the subject we love best. Proper geeky pest control.Enjoy!
Welcome to Dealey Pest Academy Podcast! For this episode, we talk to Karen Dawes, Training Manager of the BPCA.In this episode, we talk about:- "BPCA-registered" as a badge that acknowledges and recognizes the qualification of member employees (with categories for trainees, affiliates, technicians, etc.)- Being a member benefit, the BPCA-registered badge is used to recognize any form of training or learning, whether it be hands-on or by the book, with the aim to represent one's competence and portfolio in the pest control field- How the BPCA is finding a way to get the message accross in terms of introducing pest control as a sustainable career, despite the low number of interested people. The profession being very hands-on and will least likely to be replaced by robots in the future.- The pest control career may be seen as an "old man's industry" but there's a lot more to it than that, in terms of knowledge to be gained, technicality and passion.Karen also talks about how being part of the BPCA has opened her eyes to see pest control as a profession where you'll not just learn how to kill pests like it's the easiest thing to do, but it is a profession and an industry full of technicalities and complexities. She's also quite optimistic in terms of introducing a pest control career path to today's generation, with the help of BPCA's programs, training and opportunities. Welcome to Dealey Pest Academy Podcast! Our first guest is Laurence Barnard, of Killgerm Chemicals. In this episode, we talk about:- Professional pest control products versus amateur- Misuse of pest control products and their effect on pets and humans- Warning labels on pest control products and their importance- Pest control magazines- Laurence's recommended fictional books, films and a little bit of his personal lifeLaurence also talks about an inspiring story of how he overcame and conquered all odds as a husband and father, when his wife was diagnosed with cancer, years ago. He has then used this experience to educate people, be inspired and work harder in the field of pest control."I don't know anyone who genuinely loves their job as much as pest controllers do. And that's across the whole spectrum as well. You know, that's what my job is, working for suppliers and helping people in sales, part of my job. Even people that work in offices for pest control... it’s a strange base, really. And I don't think I’d want to be anywhere else"Get in touch with our host, Martin Cobbald at martin@dealey.co.ukVisit our website: http://www.dealeygroup.co.uk/
