First-generation American of Jamaican descent, raised in the Bronx NY, Omari Souza saw a need to build bridges for designers of color. In 2019 he produced The State of Black Design and proved the need and figured out how to create more opportunities for Black designers. Omari's research explores the idea of perceptions, and how visual narratives influence culture, how we view ourselves and others around us. His wok has led him to produce a two day event that discusses many generations of Black design so we can learn from our past and begin building our future! John and Omari discuss a wide range of topics such as being the "only" in design school and throughout their career.
