#231 - In this special conversation, Michael Pollan and Dan Barber and other food system leaders explore the deep relationship between whole grain bread, human health, and agricultural resilience. From the nutrient losses caused by industrial milling to the taste and vitality of freshly milled, soil-grown grains, this episode calls attention to the most overlooked staple on our plates - and how its transformation mirrors the rise of processed food and holds the key to reclaiming health and democracy for all. Hear how real bread connects eaters to farmers, to flavor, and to the future of food.https://realorganicproject.org/real-story-whole-grain-bread-231The Real Organic Podcast is hosted by Dave Chapman and Linley Dixon, engineered by Brandon StCyr, and edited and produced by Jenny Prince. The Real Organic Project is a farmer-led movement working towards certifying 1,000 farms across the United States this year. Our add-on food label distinguishes soil-grown fruits and vegetables from hydroponically-raised produce, and pasture-raised meat, milk, and eggs from products harvested from animals in horrific confinement (CAFOs - confined animal feeding operations). To find a Real Organic farm near you, please visit:https://www.realorganicproject.org/directoryWe believe that the organic standards, with their focus on soil health, biodiversity, and animal welfare were written as they should be, but that the current lack of enforcement of those standards is jeopardizing the ability for small farms who adhere to the law to stay in business. The lack of enforcement is also jeopardizing the overall health of the customers who support the organic movement; customers who are not getting what they pay for at market but still paying a premium price. And the lack of enforcement is jeopardizing the very cycles (water, air, nutrients) that Earth relies upon to provide us all with a place to live, by pushing extractive, chemical agriculture to the forefront. If you like what you hear and are feeling inspired, we would love for you to join our movement by becoming one of our 1,000 Real Friends:https://www.realorganicproject.org/real-organic-friends/To read our weekly newsletter (which might just be the most forwarded newsletter on the internet!) and get firsthand news about what's happening with organic food, farming and policy, please subscribe here:https://www.realorganicproject.org/email/

Els veïns de La Creu de Barberà es desmarquen dels aldarulls
The Doctor goes home to Lagos, Nigeria, and finds themself trapped in a barbershop. In a powerful script by Inua Ellams, Ncuti Gatwa's portrayal of the Doctor is equalled by Ariyon Bakare as the Barber. There's much to like in this story, but Jo Martin was underused in her cameo — RTD, just give Martin her own series already. We thought shoehorning in Mrs Flood in this story was a tad lame. We'd have enjoyed seeing her wandering the Lagos marketplace ala Marcus Brody (Denholm Elliot) in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Also, we missed Varada Sethu as Belinda, but aside from a few grumbles, we quite liked this episode. Opening and closing music is "Aké" by Blick Bassy. We recorded this episode on 13 May 2025.
Join Louis Lohraseb, principal conductor, and Luke Sutliff, playing Figaro, for conversations about this season's production of The Barber of Seville, how they got their starts in opera, and what it's like collaborating and singing on the CCO stage.
Mandem,, how do you like it, smooth or rough ... We are talking about your barber! Calvin has a revelation and G Money wants to buy a horse .. Confused? We all are! Enjoy!

In this powerful and wide-ranging episode, the crew dives deep into real stories and raw emotions. Seth Money and Real Rio open up about personal tragedies that shaped their lives, finding unexpected common ground in shared sorrow. Craig the Barber adds his perspective as the group discusses everything from the rise of BigXthaPlug to a shocking story involving a baby on a Disney cruise.Things get even more thought-provoking as the guys debate the cultural impact of the Gay Pride Parade vs. the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade — questioning visibility, legacy, and celebration.Real talk, real laughs, and real emotion — don't miss this one.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

So he went there -- and, stealing Barber's name, went into practice. (Gardiner, Coos County; 1910s) (For text and pictures, see https://offbeatoregon.com/1810b.1812.fake-doctor-impersonator.html)

I had the pleasure of Ty sharing his story of how his life has changed after numerous times of incarceration. He called them trips. He shares with us the courses he took while in prison to help him rewire his mindset so when he got out he wouldn't go back again. He was a teacher at a Barber College in Florida, he has many certifications in different industries. Now he's working on getting his CDL License. This is a reminder that with the right mindset and determination we can do things that we put our mind to.We chatted about how felons will come out of prison and use excuses as to why they can't find a good job & he said something powerful to me. "I know I can't be a Dr or a Lawyer but there are a lot of things I CAN be so that's what I pursued."Support the show
Hello to you listening in Fairbanks, Alaska!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.Jack Kornfield, American Buddhist teacher and writer asked, “Where does enlightenment come from?” and proceeded to offer an answer in his book, After the Ecstacy, the Laundry. For as many times as I've read his work I keep coming back to the title: first, we experience an overwhelming feeling of joyful excitement, and then we are back into the reality of day-to-day living. Our Whidbey Island No Kings rally was my ecstacy, feeling great happiness joining with over 2,500 others waving flags, holding signs, standing together, singing and laughing.Click HERE to access our Whidbey Island No Kings rally Photo GalleryBut when it was over I realized there was still the very long game of piles and piles of democracy laundry. I felt despair. Until I remembered the “We the People” are America's Power speech delivered by my hero, Reverend William Barber, founder Repairers of the Breach on June 14th to 100,000 people rallying peacefully in the Philadelphia rain.Click HERE to access Rev. Barber's speech. My very favorite FanGirl bit starts at minute 3:48 when Reverend Barber asks the rally goers to hold the hand of the person next to them and say in “call & response” fashion, the following:“I love your life!I hold your life dear!I will protect your life!I will embrace your life!I will hope the best for your life!I will stand up for your life because we are one humanity and we need each other to survive.”Now that's how we do the laundry!Question: How are you standing together to reconstruct democracy in your community?Thank you for listening and taking part. On this wild ride of Operation Pigmentation, Seth Money links up with Real Rio and Craig the Barber for an unfiltered convo that's part sports talk, part life update, and all chaos. Rio breaks down why Texas isn't just big—it's “everything's-a-little-extra” big—and the crew schools Seth on the do's and absolutely-do-not's of surviving a gentleman's club without embarrassing yourself (or getting kicked out). They also talk NBA Finals hot takes, throw some fastballs at the Rays and Cal Raleigh, and Craig spills a little tea on what's been going on in his personal life. This episode is loud, opinionated, a little reckless—and exactly how you like it.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

#228: Dan Barber returns to explore how farming for flavor - not just yield or shelf life - can transform our food system from the ground up. As a chef and co-founder of Row 7 Seeds, Dan argues that seed breeding should begin in the kitchen, with taste driving innovation in the field. From soil-grown crops to flavor-forward farming, this episode digs deep into what we've lost - and what we can grow back by connecting chefs, farmers, and crop breeders.https://realorganicproject.org/dan-barber-farming-flavor-first-228Dan Barber is the chef and co-owner of Blue Hill in Manhattan and Blue Hill at Stone Barns in New York's Hudson Valley His book The Third Plate is an exploration of America's relationship with food and agriculture and its overall lack of a defined food culture, which he believes has served other geographies through the intentional incorporation of fertility practices into their cuisines. The Real Organic Podcast is hosted by Dave Chapman and Linley Dixon, engineered by Brandon StCyr, and edited and produced by Jenny Prince.
Celeste Barber built a global following by being “real” - pulling faces in big knickers, parodying celebrity perfection, and making millions of people laugh on Instagram. But this is the side of Celeste that Instagram doesn’t see. In this intimate and revealing conversation, Celeste opens up about the chaos of her childhood, her ADHD diagnosis, the burnout that nearly broke her, and the pressure of being the internet’s favourite funny woman. She talks about her marriage to ‘Hot Husband’ Api and what it’s like raising kids while the world watches. She shares what fame has given her, what it’s taken, and the quiet work she’s done to figure out what parts of her life are just for her. Yes, she’s hilarious. But she’s also honest, vulnerable, and still figuring it out one little win at a time, just like the rest of us. This is the real Celeste Barber - beyond the selfies, the knickers, and the punchlines.
