Kickin' it with Kel is a deep dive into relationships. The premise is simple - love is the glue that can hold us all together.
I have been gone FOREVER! On January 24th, I had my two year anniversary on testosterone! I took to instagram to celebrate and asked if anyone had any questions - so, I hope you all enjoy this episode where Cami and I dive deeper into some of them!
I KNOW! You’re sick of hearing about the election. I GET IT! But do you know why the LGBTQ+ folks in your life are a little (or a lot) scared this election cycle? Are we being dramatic? Do you know what the Supreme Court does? Have you ever heard of lobbying and how to do it? This week I’m joined by my friend Patrick to talk about the policies that keep me awake at night. Patrick is an advocacy and policy guru and walks me through what’s happened the last four years and what could happen if things continue as they are. I think everyone will learn something from this episode - whether you’re a proud republican, democrat, somewhere in the middle, nowhere on the spectrum OR if you’re queer, love someone queer, or just looking to learn a little bit. In this episode i'm joined by my friend Jess Upchurch. Jess recently posted on an Instagram story (@jessupchurch) that since coming out she has experienced pain and rejection from people of faith and that there was some pain that she needed to separate Jesus from. After she posted about it, I sent her a message asking if we could unpack some of it on the podcast and luckily, she agreed. Jess has been on my list of people I wanted to interview because of her story and experiences with international mission work, faith and coming out - and she did not disappoint as an awesome guest. I am so thankful for her and her vulnerability. Enjoy the episode!
This is a quick bonus episode - just checking in. I know the world feels like shit for a lot of us - just a reminder that you're not alone. As a side note: Obviously some people can’t be talked to in any way that is productive or safe for you. Protect yourself and your energy. Keep pushing toward the good. Love people well, Kel
We DID it! We recorded the episode with Bailey! The audio isn't the best because we were on a Zoom call, so I apologize for that. BUT this conversation was so fun, despite the heaviness of the topic. Bailey makes me laugh so much and has a real joy about her that is hard to miss if you're in her presence. I'm so proud of the person she is. Standing back and watching her grow over the course of her life has been one of my favorite things. I love this little shit head very, very much. Enjoy the episode! - If you would like to support Bailey as an artist, please consider following her on Instagram @BaileyMenkeArt - she is VERY talented and you won't regret it.
today’s episode is different because you're actually kickin' it with me, Kel. I had another guest lined up but our audio fell through so this is what you get, haha. My wife Cami interviews me and we talk about what I was like as a kid, anxiety, Christianity, basketball, and of course, what I would tell my high school self. • I actually really enjoyed being on this side of the podcast and am thankful for all of the questions I received. If i didn't get to yours, blame Cami. ;) • I also just want to take the time to say thank you all very much for listening and connecting and reaching out to me with such amazing feedback so far. I don't know where this podcast will continue to go, but i'm excited for the way it has been received so far. • Enjoy the episode! _ vote.org _ *The statistic about 172 (and counting) attacks on the LGBTQ+ community was a statistic from GLAAD from two weeks ago - more info here: https://www.glaad.org/trump
*CONTENT WARNING* September is mental health awareness month and we explore some heavy topics. listener discretion is advised. in this episode i'm joined by my little brother, Reese. we deep dive into what mental health looks like for each of us, what he does to get through his dark days, the importance of good friends and family and the benefits of staying active. i'm so proud of Reese's vulnerability and i hope it encourages more people to reach out to their friends when they're struggling and need some help. enjoy the episode!
In this episode i'm joined by my oldest sister, Blaine. We deep dive into her creative projects, what it's like for her to be a mom, how she wants to raise her kids, and the beauty of raising kids around queer folks. I talk about it in this episode, but Blaine was my guiding light for so much of my life - she is so passionate about loving her people and it absolutely rubbed off on me over my lifetime. Enjoy the episode!
In this episode I'm joined by my good friend Jada. This one is quite faith heavy - as we explore the way she reacted to Cami's coming out, the way she sees the world now, the influence of people in your life and being an ally. I mention this in the episode, but Jada really is one of the best friends you could have in your corner. We had a rough start - but we moved through with love and eventually came out the other side. Enjoy! Find Jada on instagram: jada_stotts
In this episode I'm joined by my beautiful wife. We talk about her coming out, choosing each other as people, and she sets me straight on why straight passing feels like a privilege but is sometimes invalidating for her. Cami is the sunshine of my life - you'll hear me say that a lot. I am so grateful for the way she loves me well. Enjoy the episode! I'm so proud of my mom's vulnerability in this episode. We deep dive into what we regret, how being her kid saved my life, and Christianity. I wish all queer kids around the world had parents who would learn to love and accept them for exactly who they are. Enjoy the episode!
