In this podcast, Pastor Justin begins a new series on how we must love what God loves and hate what God hates, but the only way we will is if we're actually consumed by the All-Consuming Fire.Support the show
Cultivation of spiritual gifts for the life of the church and the community. This is the grand ending to John's dream. John here is imagining in binaries: the forces of good and the forces of evil. Everyone who hears his message is invited by Jesus to “come,” partake in the water of life. What was it for John who had been the subject of imperial subjugation to imagine himself a free agent, able to discern what was the will of God? What was it for John and his faith community to think of themselves as followers of Jesus, their fellow tormented, persecuted, subjugated one? What is it for us to think of ourselves as free agents, capable of discerning the will of God? John's call is a call into community (wash your robes, enter the city) in order to practice the ways of Jesus (how we welcome, resist, heal) and testify to his immanent return (rather than living as though the powers of the world are immanent, the reign of God is imminent). John, from the midst of the hardship and loneliness he is enduring, from the midst of wondering where God is, imagines God's life and healing power flowing from out of Gods' own self, always accessible; he likewise imagines all of God's people working in service of this God, always having all that they need. He imagines a tree that provides peace among nations. What was it for John to dream of coming to God for all that is needed, and for it to be easily accessible, at a time when God might have seemed silent? For it to be easy to access all that is from God, including life and world peace? What is it for us to conceive of a God of abundant life who actively provides for the healing of this world, accessible to us as we serve God? What is it for us to attend gatherings of the church with this vision? In this dream, John, who's clearly been through hardship, imagines a situation in which the Lamb, the not-powerful, peaceful, gentle one, shepherds those who have suffered. What was it for John (possibly a refugee?) to witness a divine community in which everyone had everything they needed? What was it for John to imagine the one who had suffered (the Lamb) as the caregiver for the ones who suffer? What does this do to hierarchy? What is it today for the tormented and suffering to wear their suffering as robes for all to see— and allow themselves to be comforted and cared for in community? Or for those who have suffered to provide that community for others? To tell us your thoughts on this sermon, click through to the web posting and leave us a comment. William and Casey are back for more stiff riffs! It's The William Montgomery Show with Casey Rocket!
By the time the LORD sends Elijah back to Israel, the famine has grown so severe that King Ahab himself has to go and look for grass to graze his animals. This provides the opportunity for faithful Obadiah, the man in charge of the king's household, to be alone and meet Elijah. Obadiah initially thinks that announcing Elijah's return to Ahab will prove deadly if the Spirit takes Elijah away suddenly again. In his lament, Obadiah gives faithful voice to his prayer before the LORD. Elijah promises that he will be present to meet Ahab, and so it happens. Although Ahab attempts to label Elijah as the troubler of Israel, Ahab's idolatry is the real source of Israel's trouble. Elijah prepares to bring the LORD's solution by setting up a contest with the false prophets who are being supported by the royal house. Rev. Ned Moerbe, pastor at Memorial Lutheran Church in Houston, TX, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study 1 Kings 18:1-19. To learn more about Memorial Lutheran, visit www.mlchouston.org. "A Kingdom Divided” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through 1-2 Kings. The division in the kingdom of Israel in this part of history was greater than a matter of north and south. The biggest division was between the people and their God. Yet even as the people rebelled against the LORD as their King, still He remained faithful to call them back to Himself through His prophets, working through history to send the good and gracious King, Jesus Christ. Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Submit comments or questions to: listener@kfuo.org

In judgment against Israel and in mockery of Israel's monarchs, the LORD sends Elijah to Sidon, Jezebel's homeland. There, the LORD miraculously provides for His prophet through a poor widow who comes to faith in the one true God. When death strikes the widow's son, her regret comes to the surface, but Elijah quickly acts. Through the prophet, the LORD brings the child to life again, showing that the word of the LORD is true. This text is brought to fulfillment in the Lord Jesus Christ, not only when He helps a mother from this same region, but finally when He rises from the dead to life that has no end. Rev. On today's show, we chat with Band Reeves! The Reeves brothers have taken their hybrid brand of acoustic-grounded storytelling and spiritually-fueled country music to concert venues nationally before being discovered and signed to their first label deal with Centricity Music. A little bit Shane & Shane, a little bit Florida Georgia Line, Band Reeves is forging their own unique path on a patch of back forty dirt where blue-collar living, big family dinners and bonfire worship all converge.Fusing complementary country and Christian musical genres rooted in life on the farm and the faith that sustains them, Palestine, TX-based Band Reeves brothers Jeramy and Cody release their Centricity Music debut single, “Outrun You", the song was birthed after Jeramy's transformational encounter with Christ.Although he made a public profession of faith at age 12, it wasn't until he was 23 that Jeramy experienced a real relationship with Jesus. “I made a lot of stupid decisions as a teenager,” he admits. “I was walking further and further away from what I knew was true.” During his wayward season, Jeramy's wife had a life-changing encounter with the Lord at 18, the same year they were married. “I just watched God radically change her, and that challenged me in a lot of ways,” the oldest Reeves brother reflects, “in the way she was living and handling our marriage, and in the way she could forgive and move forward.”When divorce entered the conversation, Jeramy found himself at a crossroads. After digging into the Bible and examining the theology behind different religious schools of thought, he made a personal decision to genuinely follow Jesus.“I got on my knees at two o'clock in the morning, put my face in the gravel; and I just told God, ‘I don't know what happened to me when I was 12 years old, but I know where I'm sitting right now,'” he remembers. “I asked God to save me, and when I stood up from that little heart-to-heart with Jesus, God started radically changing me, and He healed my marriage.”bandreeves.com@bandreeveschristianmusicguys.com@christianmusicguys

Presence, physical and emotional, at gatherings of the church. In this dream, John sees a river that is clear as crystal, and whose water gives life, flowing from the throne where God and the Lamb (Jesus) are. The river flows down the middle of the streets, so it is always accessible, and there is a tree of life whose leaves are medicine that can heal the nations. God's subjects serve God faithfully and bear God's name on their foreheads. God will become their light.John, from the midst of the hardship and loneliness he is enduring, from the midst of wondering where God is, imagines God's life and healing power flowing from out of Gods' own self, always accessible; he likewise imagines all of God's people working in service of this God, always having all that they need. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. And a big shout-out to James Walker from Laredo, TX. James, thank you for being a vital part of Project23. Because of you, we're helping people across the world receive and respond to the Word of God. This one's for you. Today, we're looking at Mark 4:13-20: And he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? The sower sows the word. And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them. And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” — Mark 4:13-20 The disciples asked Jesus to explain the parable—and he did. No mystery. No guessing. Just clarity to those who ask, seek, and knock. He told them that the seed is the Word of God. And the soil? That's our hearts. What makes this parable so powerful is that it doesn't just explain how to grow—but why so many don't. Some hear the Word and Satan snatches it away before it can even sink in. Some hear and respond quickly—but without roots, they wither under pressure. Some let the Word grow—but it gets choked out by anxiety, money, distractions, and desires. Some—only some—receive the Word deeply, producing a harvest far beyond their own ability. The prevalence and prominence of the Word is never the problem. The condition of our hearts is always the problem. And this parable isn't about four different kinds of people. It's about four different kinds of hearts and their responses. And if we're honest, we've probably been all four in our lives. Sometimes we're hard. Sometimes we're shallow. Sometimes we're distracted. Sometimes—we're finally open, and the Word bears fruit. So the personal and probing question is: What kind of soil is my heart today? And here's the good news: soil can change. The Spirit can till, soften, clear, and prepare your heart again. You just have to ask. Are your ready to ask? Spirit, soften my calloused heart to the seed of truth. Multiply your Word and truth through me. May I bear a bountiful harvest. Amen. #HeartCheck, #GoodSoil, #FruitfulFaith ASK THIS: Which soil type best describes your heart right now—and why? What tends to choke out the Word in your life the most? How can you build stronger spiritual roots? What fruit have you seen when the Word takes deep root in your life? DO THIS: Write down one thing that's currently choking or distracting you from fully receiving God's Word. Then pray and ask God to help you clear it out. PRAY THIS: God, I want to be good soil. Help me uproot what's shallow, hardened, or distracting. Let your Word go deep—and bear lasting fruit in my life. Amen. PLAY THIS: Clear the Stage.

To the best of my knowledge, Kris Schultz is the second“merch slinger” I've met that went on to pursue a lyrical life as a troubadour in her own right. My first experience was with Texas songwriter Kayla Ray as she first visited KC slinging merch for Jason Eady. I love Kris' trajectory…. check this out. Growing up in Topeka, Kansas, Kris was obsessed at an early age with the country songs of heartbreak and loss on the jukebox at a bar she visited regularly with her parents. At an early age, she showed promise in several sports, especially the field part of track and field eventually accepted a scholarship to throw Javelin at Kansas State University, where she majored in Radio/Television Journalism. While competing in the Texas Relays during her college career, she fell in love with Austin, TX. And soon moved there with only a box of books & CDs, a small stereo, and a bag of clothes. She walked into the city-ran Austin Music Network TV channel, asked for an internship, and soon was spending her days proof-checking videos of local music and taking in every note. But she still hadn't thought of playing music herself. After years assisting musicians as merch slinger, roadmanager and van driver, but never playing or singing herself, Kris eventually acquired a guitar and began writing songs. She released her full-length album, Standard Issue Heart, inOctober 2021, has played such legendary venues as The Saxon Pub and Cactus Café in Texas, toured in the Midwest, Southwest and Southeastern US, has been featured in the live performance series “Songs In Places.” Kris recently found herself in the Heartland and we connected to make an appearance on the Tasty Brew Music Radio Show happen. Why do babies cry? Have you ever considered that their cries might have something to teach us? Fr. Mike explains that a baby's cry is an act of faith—they cry because they trust someone will hear, someone will care, and someone will come. In the same way, when we cry out to God in our moments of pain or loneliness, that too is an act of faith. And like a loving Father, He sees us, He cares, and He comes.
