‘Songs are like a statement from the spirit of you, the spirit in you'Annie Macmanus speaks to global music icon Stevie Wonder about his life and career. Stevie was born in 1950 in the industrial city of Saginaw in Michigan, USA. Even from a young age, he displayed a great love of music - first with a church choir, and then teaching himself how to play a range of instruments, including the harmonica, piano and drums - all before the age of 10.He was just 11 years old when he was discovered and signed by the legendary Motown record label - and the rest is history.Across a career that's spanned seven decades, he's sold over 100 million records worldwide, won numerous awards - including multiple Grammys, a Golden Globe and even an Oscar, and received the US Presidential Medal of Freedom too.Over the years, Stevie has also used his platform to campaign on social issues close to his heart. He's long-advocated for greater rights for disabled people around the world, and he successfully spearheaded a movement to create a national holiday in the US to recognise the birthday of the civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was also a vocal critic of apartheid in South Africa and called for the release of Nelson Mandela. In this wide-ranging interview, Stevie discusses his journey to stardom, where he gets his creative spark, and speaking out against injustice.Thank you to the Sidetracked team for their help in making this programme. We welcome back our in-house MCU experts, Nico Vasilo and Kevo Risse, to talk about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2! Will it hold up in an era of superhero burnout? Will Nico and Kevo like it more than they did when they covered it for mcu.html? We find out! After Nico takes James Gunn down a peg, we compare this Guardians film to Superman (2025), talk about the issues with Yondu redemption, and compare the Fast Family to the Guardians with regards to how they approach working together (and being a found family). We ask for insights about Planet X. Nico compares this movie to Final Fantasy VIII. Kevo explains the problem with Adam Warlock. There's lots of Fleetwood Mac talk, for some reason. Last week, we experienced a shocking emotional roller coaster that everyone in this business said would serve as a turning point for conservatives. Well, now is the time to get back on the playing field and channel those emotions into the very policies that led up to this moment. Given the news about transgenderism once again playing a role in a heinous murder, I offer a 10-point plan for every red state to adopt to ensure that the trans agenda is uprooted from our midst. You'd by shocked at how few red states have adopted most of the legislative ideas on my list. In general, we cannot allow ourselves to be consumed by aimless tweeting and hating without directing those emotions to actually defeating the Left. Not only is it unhealthy and ungodly, it's also shortsighted, because if we don't build a red-state fortress for ordered liberty, we will be left defenseless in a few years when Democrats come back at us with a vengeance. As their name suggests, “forever chemicals” have extraordinary staying power. When these nearly indestructible compounds find their way into our soil and water, they don't break down for hundreds or thousands of years. PFAS – the name for these synthetic chemicals – isn't just in our natural environment. Scientists have found it everywhere, including in the blood of nearly every living being. In this episode, we talk to the reporter who broke open the story about a decades-long corporate coverup regarding forever chemicals, look at what we know about their health effects, and consider how a kneecapping of the EPA's regulatory power may weaken the best tool we have for protecting ourselves from PFAS contamination. Guests: Nathaniel Rich – Author of “Second Nature: Scenes from a World Remade,” and the New York Times Magazine article, “The Lawyer Who Became Dupont's Worst Nightmare” Rachel Frazin – Energy and Environment Policy reporter for The Hill, co-author of “Poisoning the Well: How Forever Chemicals Contaminated America” Janet McCabe – visiting professor at the Robert McKinney School of Law at Indiana University, former deputy administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency Featuring music by Dewey Dellay and Jun Miyake You can get early access to ad-free versions of every episode by joining us on Patreon. The Peaceful Plate: Ending Food Panic After Hormone-Driven Breast Cancer
It's true, women in the breast cancer community are curious about strict, rule-based eating plans promising to provide optimal treatment outcomes or prevent recurrence. Sadly, rather than deliver on what they promise, these diets create stress, anxiety, and confusion around food. The outcome? Diet abandonment, followed by guilt, shame and feeling like a failure. Not what you want from an eating plan, eh? In this episode, I explain why a “forever” eating plan, one that's flexible, nourishing, and truly sustainable, is your key to eating with peace. . .forever. ______________________________________________________Click here to apply to my Peaceful Plate program! Watergate, the scandal that toppled Nixon. All the President's Men (1976) tells the story of Woodward and Bernstein, the two Washington Post journalists who “followed the money” and uncovered corruption at the highest level. But does the film hold up today or has it become a mythologized version of journalism that no longer exists? Richard, Thorin, and MonteCristo dig into Robert Redford & Dustin Hoffman's iconic roles, the slow-burn procedural style, the myth of journalism as a heroic truth-to-power force, and why this movie may feel like historical fiction in today's cynical political world.

The 1790s remain one of the most important decades in modern Irish history. After years of rising tensions, the island was rocked by the 1798 Rebellion—the largest uprising in Irish history. In just a few months, more people perished than in all the conflicts of the 20th century combined. These events continue to cast a long shadow over life in Ireland and are central to understanding this island in the 21st century. In many ways, 1798 is our foundational story. So much of what followed from the War of Independence to the Troubles sought to answer questions first posed by Ireland's revolutionary generation of the 1790s. What does it mean to be Irish? Why is our history so deeply divided along religious lines? And what lies at the heart of the bitterness that has marked modern Anglo-Irish relations? In my gripping new series, starting next week, I'll take you deep into life in 18th-century Ireland and uncover the dramatic story of the 1798 Rebellion. Through the gripping narratives of people who lived through these remarkable events, we'll explore the anti-Catholic Penal Laws, the impact of the American and French Revolutions, and how Ireland's republican movement emerged in the 1790s.It's a story dominated by larger-than-life characters from the great-grandson of an English king who became Ireland's leading revolutionary, to the spies and agents who betrayed friends and comrades. The series navigates global revolutions and the brutal realities of war and sectarianism in Ireland.Whether you're new to Irish history or searching for fresh insights, this series brings the drama, the characters, and the high stakes of the 1790s to life. Join me as we uncover how the 1798 Rebellion changed Ireland forever. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
