Patti Smith, “the Godmother of Punk,” has lived a wild life and accumulated so much wisdom in the process. In the 1960s and '70s, Smith was a fixture of the New York City creative scene — hanging out with the likes of Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Allen Ginsberg and Robert Mapplethorpe. Merging her own poetry with an ace backing band, she became a global rock star. Then she gave it up, moved to Michigan, raised a family, and remade herself into a best-selling author. Her stunning memoir “Just Kids” won the National Book Award and is one of the books that I've kept returning to, again and again. There is clearly something unusual about Smith. People who know her have described her as “shamanistic.” But even for those of us who will never become rock stars, there's something inspiring — and oddly relatable — in how she thinks about life. So I was excited to have the opportunity to sit down with her and learn more.Smith is out with a new memoir, “Bread of Angels,” and is on tour for the 50th anniversary of her breakthrough album, “Horses.” We talk about that book and that album and so much more: the boundless curiosity that drives her; the books that shaped her; her childhood communion with a snapping turtle; what Andy Warhol was like; what color she thinks the soul is; and a lot more that's hard even to describe. This episode contains strong language.Mentioned:“Pan's Labyrinth” by Guillermo del ToroGrimm's Complete Fairy Tales by Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm GrimmBread of Angels by Patti SmithJust Kids by Patti Smith“The Dark Blot” by Gérard de Nerval“Genie” by Arthur Rimbaud“Guernica” by Pablo Picasso“The Last Supper” by Andy WarholBook Recommendations:The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo CollodiFrankenstein by Mary ShelleyThe Poetry of Sylvia Plath Edited by Claire Brennan2666 by Roberto BolañoThoughts? We live in a world obsessed with "fixing" problems — fixing our flaws, fixing our money, fixing our lives. But what if the goal was never to eliminate problems… but to choose better ones? In this episode, Paige reframes the entire concept of "having problems" and shows you why a problem-free life is not only impossible… it's undesirable. She breaks down the difference between low-quality problems that drain your power and high-quality problems that expand it, and reveals why the challenges you choose determine the life you create. This is a grounding, perspective-shifting conversation that will help you stop fighting reality, stop expecting life to be easier than it is, and start choosing problems that align with your values, identity, and the future you want. By the end of the episode you will: Understand why problems never disappear — they simply evolve as you do Identify the "low-quality problems" that are keeping you stuck, overwhelmed, or resentful Learn how to choose higher-quality problems that move you toward growth, purpose, and emotional peace See where you've been unintentionally creating unnecessary suffering through avoidance, urgency, or perfectionism Feel empowered to approach your money, relationships, career, and daily life with more intention — and far less self-judgment   Work with Paige: Join my Elevate Workshop: End Emotional Shopping & Expand Your Inner Wealth Use the code "OOPOD100" at checkout to get $100 off your investment   Join Overcoming Overspending HERE   Connect with Paige Online: Her Website IG: @overcoming_overspending TikTok: @overcoming_overspending Subscribe to Paige's YouTube Channel

The controversy surrounding the Epstein files has intensified following President Trump's public directive calling on Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice to launch a new investigation into Jeffrey Epstein's associations—specifically targeting political opponents and several high-profile figures in finance and technology. The timing of this announcement is drawing significant scrutiny, arriving just months after the DOJ and FBI publicly stated that they had already conducted a comprehensive review of all Epstein-related materials, including more than 300 gigabytes of digital evidence, and concluded there was no basis to open any further criminal inquiries. That review asserted that the majority of evidence remained sealed primarily to protect victims and that there was no credible evidence of an Epstein “client list” or coordinated blackmail operation. Critics argue that the sudden reversal raises red flags about political motivations rather than new facts, particularly as Congress moves forward with a discharge petition intended to force the release of unredacted Epstein records to the public.Legal scholars and government accountability watchdogs warn that labeling this sudden initiative an “ongoing investigation” could be used to halt congressional access to Epstein-related records and effectively freeze public disclosure for months or even years. Under DOJ policy, active investigations allow the government to withhold documents that would otherwise be subject to subpoenas or release mandates, raising concerns that the move could function as a procedural shield rather than a legitimate inquiry. Critics argue that invoking investigative privilege at this moment—after years of limited transparency and repeated failures to hold institutions accountable—risks undermining public trust in the justice system and may set a dangerous precedent in which politically motivated probes are used to obstruct oversight. With bipartisan pressure continuing to build around the discharge petition seeking full release of the Epstein files, the coming weeks will test whether Congress can assert its authority or whether the executive branch can successfully deploy legal mechanisms to re-seal evidence and control the narrative around one of the most consequential criminal scandals in modern American history.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

We're covering Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in this lap's first pit stop, and finally taking care of some much overdo business, such as: making Rachel happy by finally watching and talking about this movie. After discussing the (many) connections this movie has to James Bond (and the production's goal to simply make another Mary Poppins and to "out-Disney Disney"), Joe shares what he thought of this musical. We ask: does this story make any sense (and does it matter if not?)? (Also: why do we start with so many Grand Prix races?) We talk about movie characters who can think they can fly (and also movies with quicksand in them), how much we appreciate Dick Van Dyke, and kids' ways of selectively watching movies. We talk about how (surprisingly!) F&F-coded Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is, the movie's hard pivot (The Wizard of Oz style) into becoming a fantasy story, and the nightmare fuel of the Child Catcher. Of course to do that they had to put the worlds ugliest muffler on it to comply with Laguna Seca's noise ordinances. We still love it and we're always glad to see Christian Von Koenigsegg breaking records and pushing limits. We also discuss Motorcycle etiquette, Whitworth and JIS tools, and a YouTuber we think you should be watching with your family, Matt Spears.  While talking about the Rever mapping app, which is really useful for finding curvy roads, we talk about how AI could potentially replace all these apps very easily. What is Creation?Creation is the sum of all God's Thoughts, in number infinite, and everywhere without all limit. Only Love creates, and only like Itself. There was no time when all that It created was not there. Nor will there be a time when anything that It created suffers any loss. Forever and forever are God's Thoughts exactly as they were and as they are, unchanged through time and after time is done.God's Thoughts are given all the power that their own Creator has. For He would add to Love by its extension. Thus His Son shares in creation, and must therefore share in power to create. What God has willed to be forever one will still be one when time is over; and will not be changed throughout the course of time, remaining as it was before the thought of time began.Creation is the opposite of all illusions, for creation is the truth. Creation is the holy Son of God, for in creation is His Will complete in every aspect, making every part container of the Whole. Its oneness is forever guaranteed inviolate; forever held within His holy Will, beyond all possibility of harm, of separation, imperfection and of any spot upon its sinlessness. We are creation; we the Sons of God. We seem to be discrete, and unaware of our eternal unity with Him. Yet back of all our doubts, past all our fears, there still is certainty. For Love remains with all Its Thoughts, Its sureness being theirs. God's memory is in our holy minds, which know their oneness and their unity with their Creator. Let our function be only to let this memory return, only to let God's Will be done on earth, only to be restored to sanity, and to be but as God created us.Our Father calls to us. We hear His Voice, and we forgive creation in the Name of its Creator, Holiness Itself, Whose holiness His Own creation shares; Whose holiness is still a part of us.LESSON 321Father, My Freedom Is In You Alone.I did not understand what made me free, nor what my freedom is, nor where to look to find it. Father, I have searched in vain until I heard Your Voice directing me. Now I would guide myself no more. For I have neither made nor understood the way to find my freedom. But I trust in You. You Who endowed me with my freedom as Your holy Son will not be lost to me. Your Voice directs me, and the way to You is opening and clear to me at last. Father, my freedom is in You alone. Father, it is my will that I return.Today we answer for the world, which will be freed along with us. How glad are we to find our freedom through the certain way our Father has established. And how sure is all the world's salvation, when we learn our freedom can be found in God alone.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

This episode discusses youth suicide and social media harm; listener discretion is advised.London was bright, goofy, empathetic, brilliant. She played soccer year-round, read nonstop, danced through the kitchen, and filled her Michigan home with laughter. But during the pandemic, when she was just eight, a smartphone and social media entered her life. What followed was a years-long battle with algorithmic addiction that Charay—like millions of parents—never saw coming. In this raw and devastating interview, London's mom Charay Gadd shares the truth no parent should ever have to live through: TikTok pushing self-harm and suicide content when London searched for harmless topics… Snapchat teaching her to hide messages… multiple secret accounts… emotional manipulation from streaks and scores… and a child who didn't understand the permanence of death because of what she saw online.Charay takes us through London's hospitalizations, the cries for help, and the night everything changed. Her message is one every parent must hear: This wasn't London. This was addiction. This was social media.Today, Charay fights for justice—alongside more than 1,000 families in the national lawsuit against Big Tech—and honors London's life through a scholarship that empowers teens to make a difference in the world. This episode is not entertainment. It's a warning. And it will save lives. You can donate to a scholarship program in London's name, here.

Our guest today is Jim Wunderman, who has been at or near the center of Bay Area Politics for four decades, starting with his time working in the office of then-San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein. Feinstein taught Wunderman to think of the larger San Francisco region as one interconnected entity, an approach that ultimately made him a perfect fit as the head of the Bay Area Council.  Wunderman served as the CEO of BAC for just over 21 years.Last month he announced that he will be leaving the organization to head up public affairs for California Forever, the ambitious project to create en entirely new European-style city on what is now cow pasture just outside of Rio Vista.  California Forever is the dream of Jan Sramek, a Czechoslovakian emigre who sees the project as a major step in solving California's housing crisis. He's convinced a bevy of billionaires to back him - now it will be up to Wunderman to get California's political decision makers on board. 1:17 Dana Williamson6:40 Last week's WWCA winner: Kevin Kiley7:45 Capitol Weekly news9:20 Jim Wunderman12:13 BAC's bipartisan success15:36 CEQA reform19:53 New leadership at BAC?20:56 From Feinstein's office to BAC27:12 "I met Nancy Pelosi in 1984..."28:47 California Forever34:34 Impact of Climate Change on project?38:13 Timeline41:43 WWCAWant to support the Capitol Weekly Podcast? face. It: Scelse l'istante imperfetto, il disordine della pioggia, per fare il grande passo.En: He chose the imperfect moment, the disarray of the rain, to take the big step. It: "Giulia," disse con voce tremante, "voglio trascorrere il resto della mia vita con te.En: "Giulia," he said with a trembling voice, "I want to spend the rest of my life with you.It: Vuoi sposarmi?"En: Will you marry me?"It: Giulia lo guardò sorpresa, poi scoppiò a ridere di gioia.En: Giulia looked at him surprised, then burst out laughing with joy.It: "Sì, Alessandro!En: "Yes, Alessandro! It: Certo che sì!"En: Of avesse lavato via ogni paura e dubbio.En: Alessandro felt free, light, as if the rain had washed away every fear and doubt. It: In quel momento, Alessandro capì che l'amore era più forte di qualsiasi timore.En: In that moment, Alessandro understood that love was stronger than any fear. It: Aveva abbracciato la sua vulnerabilità, e in cambio, aveva trovato la felicità.En: He had embraced his vulnerability, and in return, had found happiness. It: Sotto la pioggia romana, iniziava il loro nuovo capitolo, bagnato ma splendente di amore.En: Under the Roman rain, their new chapter began, wet Rajiv shares how he became an “entrepreneur by force, not by choice,” and why early praise and empty encouragement almost destroyed his career. Instead of shortcuts and motivational hype, he reveals the real foundations every business owner needs — clarity, leadership, systems, and the willingness to outgrow who you used to be.If you've ever felt stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated because your business doesn't seem to grow no matter how hard you work, Rajiv explains the precise blind spots holding most founders back. From mistaking passion for a plan, to building a job instead of a real business, to chasing success before building competence — this episode exposes the patterns that quietly kill 9 out of 10 startups. This conversation will challenge your assumptions, confront your excuses, and push you to finally evolve into the entrepreneur your future needs.Follow the podcast on IG: @smalltalkpodcasts with @aleccuenca_ and @rajivtalreja Hosted on Acast. From The Matrix redefining action movies, to Netflix establishing binge culture, to Neal Adams reshaping comic book art—we break down the creative breakthroughs that changed the game forever. We also discuss game changers in modern music and art like rise of music videos in the 80s, the use of sampling and autotune, and the impact of illustrator Frank Frazetta on generations of young painters.  Finally, we look at so-called negative game changers: the Comic Book Speculator Boom, the slow death of physical media, and how streaming reshaped (and maybe even hurt) how we experience TV, film and music.

Together, they break down why public access matters now more than ever: how local TV and community-powered news can connect neighbors, build trust where traditional media has fallen short and, most importantly, help people tell their own stories. They swap favorite public access oddities (including a cat-costume cuddle show) and Geth shares how his own public access days somehow ended up tied to a Supreme Court case.
