Mattering in the Music Room

We will discuss how to layer in social emotional learning into your music lessons including some hands on mindfulness practices that Loren does with her students.  As well as ways to balance school and home-life with some teacher self-care.  

Author Loren Tarnow of “Sprouting Joy” will join me on this episode. We will discuss how she implemented social emotional learning into her music classroom. She will share strategies that helped transform her classroom into one where joyful music making could happen.

In this episode, I'll cover the last CASEL competency, responsible decision-making, the 3 R's of reminding, reinforcing and redirecting and then I'll provide some researched benefits of social emotional learning in the music classroom.

This episode is about how our students interact and get along with others, and the ability to make constructive and respectful choices about personal behavior and social interactions.  I'll discuss how to incorporate the competencies of social awareness and relationship skills in your music classroom.
