On SanLo Together, we gather with members of our community at San Lorenzo Japanese Christian Church to chat, share, and...well, grow together! It's great to visit with you. ☺ï¸
SEASON 1 FINALE! We welcome four family members who participated in a very special study late last year: Mildred, Adora, Helen, and Dana walk us through what it meant to join "One Blood" with other brothers and sisters from churches around the Bay Area in 2020, journeying together toward biblical reconciliation. And thank you all for supporting us on this 12 episode run of experimenting, learning to walk together in new ways. We hope to be back with season 2 sometime in 2021, Lord willing!
**Heads-up: somewhat mature topics are discussed in the latter parts of this episode. Listeners may want to preview before including their young ones in the audience.** We welcome the newlyweds, Will and Alex - and they share their individual journeys to Christ and to SanLo, how married life is going in the pandemic, what it was like to have a COVID wedding, and how pre-marital counseling (positively) blew their minds.
Two mini-episodes in one! We welcome both Frank and Jeff from our leadership team to share their stories and give us a sense of how God has formed them to be the leaders they are today. You'll hear just how different folks on the team are while appreciating the way the Lord has brought us together to serve and glorify Him as one body.
We meet and greet Kathy Tekawa, our amazing, soon-to-be-retired communications admin of 30 some odd years. As she shares her story, we laugh a lot, she embarrasses our host and almost gets kicked off the show for it, and of course, we hold back tears.
Pastor Eric joins us to look back on the year that was 2020, and to talk about what it even means to reflect on years gone by. Why do it at all, especially with so much pain in this year's calendar? What makes it a Christian activity? How can we both say it was a terrible year and a great year? Notes: Show music generously provided by Jenny & Tyler. If you want to support their music and ministry, check out their Patreon and consider becoming a patron.
Happy Advent and Merry Christmas! Grab a blanket, get some hot chocolate, and cozy up by the fire (or just imagine all of that if you're out and about!) as we share a little bit of the love, hope, and joy of Christmas to your podcast-listening device. Our pastoral staff share a few of their favorite things about this special time on the calendar and then encourage us with Christmas blessings for 2020. [Pssst...you might even want to replay this on Christmas day for those extra warm feels!]
We sit down with Ben Wu (no relation!), a longtime SanLo resident and current member of our leadership team, to catch up, hear his story, and talk about servant leadership. Resources mentioned: Cutting for Stone - Abraham Verghese Never Say No: Raising Big-Picture Kids - Mark Foreman and Jan Foreman And don't forget! We'd love to hear your questions and feedback. Send us a note at sanlotogether@gmail.com, or even better for those of you with questions, attach an audio clip with you asking your question!
Pastor Brian returns to help us work through what it means to foster a "Culture of Care" in the community of Christ. How is it different, if at all, from being friendly and inviting? How can we embody the love of Christ in a way that truly welcomes people? Join us for a particularly relevant conversation as Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner, where opportunities and challenges abound to "care." Resources mentioned: People to Be Loved: Why Homosexuality Is Not Just an Issue - Preston Sprinkle The Gospel Comes with a House Key: Practicing Radically Ordinary Hospitality in Our Post-Christian World - Rosaria Butterfield What Grieving People Wish You Knew about What Really Helps (and What Really Hurts) - Nancy Guthrie
Last and certainly not least, we get to sit down with Pastor Eric! He shares his story, reveals secrets about his roots, picks pie over cake, and recalls the path God took him on to come to SanLo.
Pastor Brian joins us to share his story, what he's been reading, and how he almost ended up in a very different profession.
We visit with Pastor Scott to hear how God has shaped him through many different circumstances to be the person he is today.
We get together with Pastor Joshua Scott to chat about his journey from being a kid at SanLo to coming back and answering the call to be a pastor at SanLo.
