In today's homily, Fr. David reminds us that the pro-life mission begins not only with defending the unborn, but with defending the truth about the human person. As the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith taught in Donum Vitae (1987), “Human life must be absolutely respected and protected from the moment of conception.” This foundational truth reveals why the Church insists that no one may claim the right to directly destroy an innocent human being—for life begins with the creative action of God and belongs entirely to Him.Yet Fr. David takes us deeper: physical life and death matter, but our spiritual life or death is even more decisive. St. John tells us, “Whoever does not love remains in death” (1 Jn 3:14). Spiritual death is the absence of charity; spiritual life is union with God, who is love (Jn 14:23). St. Faustina writes in Diary 1148 that “we resemble God most when we forgive our neighbors.” Without forgiveness, the heart withers. Without truth, charity collapses.Through the story of Anna Maria Schmidt, Fr. David shows the terrible cost of hatred and the supernatural power of forgiveness. Her journey—from rage to grace—reveals that only God can heal the heart so deeply that it can forgive even in the face of grave injustice. This is the same grace our nation desperately needs. More than 65 million children have been lost to abortion since 1973. This staggering reality exposes not only a crisis of truth, but a crisis of love.Scripture teaches, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (Jn 8:32). Love divorced from truth becomes sentimentality; truth without love becomes cruelty. But united, they become the path to holiness. Study the faith. Seek the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth. Law in a Culture of Theology: The Use of Canon Law by Parisian Theologians, ca. 1120-ca. 1220 (Routledge, 2025) considers the study of law within its intellectual environment. It demonstrates that theologians associated with the schools of Paris in the twelfth century, particularly Peter the Chanter and his circle, had a working knowledge of Romano-canonical tradition and thought about the human context of the law, which, in turn, reflected the environment in which each master worked. It begins by showing the extent to which law was woven into the fabric of the schools of Paris, and follows with individual case studies. These case studies--marriage in Hugh of St. Victor's De Sacramentis and Peter Lombard's Sententiae, excommunication in Peter the Chanter's Summa de sacramentis et animae consiliis, crusade activity and heresy in Robert of Couçon's Summa penitentiae, homicide in Robert of Flamborough's Liber poenitentialis, and the faces of greed in Thomas of Chobham's Summa confessorum--demonstrate how each theologian drew upon legal thought, for what end he was using it, and how his use of law fit into contemporary legal thinking. A competency in law proved valuable to, and was tailored for, different types of ecclesiastical roles: teachers showing students how to analytically navigate complex questions of pastoral care, papal judge-delegate on the cusp of full-time administration on behalf of the papacy, penitentiarius of St. Victor and the students at the University of Paris, or diocesan management. Bachelard (1884–1962), figure majeure de la philosophie française du XXè siècle, est présenté comme un penseur subversif, dont la démarche réconcilie rigueur scientifique et liberté imaginative. Cette alternance n'est pas une contradiction, mais, au contraire, une méthode de vie et de pensée : un art de vivre philosophique, respectueux de la pluralité des formes de la vie bonne et de la liberté de l'esprit. Cette éthique du renouveau repose sur une sagesse qui refuse les dogmes et valorise le mouvement. Elle s'incarne dans une pédagogie de l'éveil, où le philosophe est aussi un éducateur.
