Special Education information for parents and teachers.
Hi Everyone! I was recently frustrated by the practices of evaluation professionals in NOT providing informed consent, and NOT reviewing the Procedural Safeguards and the Guide to the ARD Process (IEP Process everywhere but Texas). I was then reading an article online that gave me new fuel for the fire and mission of #SpedFAQs. The article discussed the author's frustration with the language used, and how it was too difficult for many parents to understand. She argues that the language in the documents needs to be changed; that because it is difficult to understand, it makes parents dependent on the school professionals, which would be an unequal standing. So - we are more committed to helping parents, guardians, and teachers everywhere so you all can be informed decision makers in your student's education plan. Thanks for listening in! The BIG DAY has arrived - the ARD or IEP meeting day! This is where eligibility for special education services is determined, and a plan is proposed for your student's success at school in all areas of need. This is an overview of the basics of the meeting. Tune in for the next few episodes where we break down the IEP components and describe exactly what is presented. Thanks for tuning in! Your Host, Laura
Hi Everyone!! Hi Switzerland! This is an episode that I told yall about in our Intro Episode, where I shine some light on some special stories regarding people who have a disability or people who are doing cool things for people with a disability. I actually would like to change the world by having these special people referred to as Overcomers instead of disabled! Can we start a trend? This episode refers to stories I have posted over the past few months to our facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/SpedFAQs/ I hope you get the warm fuzzies and enjoy these stories about Overcomers!!
Hi yall! This episode is long and tedious. So why listen? Because if you are considering having your child evaluated for special education services, you need to know everything about the process and what is happening! This was a hard one to condense and still give you needed information. I hope it is useful to you! Thanks for listening! Your Host Laura
The Referral for Evaluation. How children are referred for evaluation for special education services. Did you know that your baby and toddler can be receiving services through Early Childhood Intervention? Special Education services are provided from age 3 years, if eligible.
Welcome to the second episode, and the first full episode, of #SpedFAQs! We are talking about the Procedural Safeguards and The Parent's Guide to the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Process. These are the Texas versions of the procedural rights and process of special education. If you are in another state - you have these same processes, but may have a different title. We review the information about what these books are, who they are for, and when we are required to provide them.
