We dig into a listener's real dilemma — her coach told her to take six days off from training — and explore why the hardest part of being coached isn't the programming, it's the trust. Discover why a great coach's perspective is the single most valuable thing you're paying for, and why curiosity beats judgment every time.We break down the two pillars every coaching relationship is built on — experimentation and trust — and why resisting your coach's advice might mean you're not ready to grow. Learn why six days off won't cost you your fitness, why your identity might be more wrapped up in training than you realize, and how one low-risk experiment could change everything.

Today Keith and I are breaking down all the ways evangelical marriage culture places that burden almost entirely on women: from appearance standards and contraception to performing passion on demand and suppressing her own emotions so his experience stays comfortable. Keep winning! Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning, television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Michelle Taylor Willis. Interview Summary Interview with Rushion McDonald – Money Making Conversations Masterclass Interview Purpose The purpose of this interview is to explore the difference between success and significance, with a particular focus on parenting, leadership, community impact, and intentional legacy building. Michelle Taylor Willis uses her personal journey, civic leadership, and her guide Raising Significance to challenge parents and professionals to think beyond individual achievement and toward collective responsibility. The conversation positions success as a starting point—and significance as the multiplier, especially in how we raise children, build networks, and serve others. Major Themes & Key Takeaways 1. Success vs. Significance A central theme of the interview is Michelle’s distinction between success and significance. Success is defined as personal accomplishment—career, income, stability—while significance is about leveraging that success to change lives beyond your own. Key takeaway: Success is self‑contained; significance is outward‑facing and transformational. 2. Raising Significant Children Requires Intention Michelle emphasizes that significance does not happen by accident. Her guide outlines principles designed to raise independent, confident, disciplined, and service‑oriented children. These principles are meant to be instilled early so that giving back becomes instinctual, not optional. Key takeaway: If significance isn’t taught intentionally, it rarely shows up later. 3. The Role of Healthy Fear and Authority Michelle discusses the value of healthy fear—not intimidation, but respect for authority and consequences. This concept, often misunderstood in modern parenting, is framed as a safety and discipline tool that prepares children for real‑world structure. Key takeaway: Healthy fear builds accountability and keeps children safe. 4. Discipline and Consistency Matter Both Michelle and Rushion highlight that parenting—like leadership—requires consistency and follow‑through. Children must understand that boundaries are real and consequences are unavoidable. Key takeaway: Consistency creates security, discipline, and trust. 5. Fraternities and Sororities as Leadership Training Grounds Michelle credits her membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated with shaping her values around networking, service, accountability, and lifelong collaboration. These organizations provide built‑in support systems that extend far beyond college. Key takeaway: Purpose‑driven networks accelerate leadership growth and impact. 6. Significance Is About Service, Not Recognition Despite numerous awards and honors, Michelle makes it clear that recognition is not the goal—it’s simply feedback. True fulfillment comes from knowing her work has meaning and contributes to something larger than herself. Key takeaway: Recognition is validation; service is the mission. 7. The Power of Music and Early Skill Development Michelle strongly advocates for early exposure to music and structured learning, noting its connection to critical thinking, math skills, discipline, and brain development. She explains how musical training supports cognitive growth that carries into adulthood. Key takeaway: Early skill development builds lifelong cognitive advantages. 8. Significance Requires Community Mindset Michelle repeatedly reinforces that nothing meaningful is built alone. Whether parenting, leadership, or entrepreneurship, significance depends on strong teams, collaboration, and shared values. Key takeaway: The most impactful leaders think in terms of “we,” not “me.” Notable Quotes “There’s a difference between success and significance.” “Success is about you. Significance is about everybody else.” “Most people are comfortable being successful—but uncomfortable being significant.” “Healthy fear keeps you in check.” “If you raise children intentionally, significance won’t be optional.” “It’s never about me.” “Significance creates a domino effect that changes the world.” Overall Message Michelle Taylor Willis’s interview is a thought‑provoking call to intentional living and leadership. Through her work and her guide Raising Significance, she reframes parenting—and success itself—as stewardship. Her message is clear: the future depends not on how many successful people we create, but on how many significant ones we raise. In a world increasingly focused on individual achievement, Michelle challenges audiences to embrace responsibility, community, and purpose as the true measures of a meaningful life. #SHMS #BEST #STRAWSupport the show: https://www.steveharveyfm.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Bouncer Smith is one of the true legends of South Florida fishing — a charter captain, author, conservationist, and storyteller with over six decades on the water. He's written five books, guided thousands of anglers, and pioneered techniques that changed the way we rig lures and release fish. And now, in retirement, he's catching some of the best fish of his life. In this conversation, we get into Bouncer's recent adventures — from bass fishing in the headwaters to landing two 100-pound tarpon in one afternoon on 80-pound braid in Biscayne Bay. We talk about the five biggest changes in fishing over the last 60 years, from depth finders to forward-facing sonar, from monofilament to braid, from J hooks to circle hooks. We get into his genius circle-hook-in-front-of-the-lure rigging method, solunar tables and how to use them, and Project CSafe — the massive conservation and fishing event happening April 17–26 in Grant, Florida, presented by Star Brite. Some of the moments I found most meaningful in this conversation were: Bouncer landing two tarpon over 100 pounds in retirement — and admitting he thought those days were behind him His breakdown of the five biggest changes in fishing: electronics, GPS, bottom mapping, braid, and modern drags The circle hook rigging trick that took his tarpon catch rate from 10% to over 90% His commitment to solunar tables and how he's used moon rise timing to predict bite windows for decades The power of listening to every angler — because a bass technique might solve a tarpon problem 00:00 Introduction & Project CSafe Overview 03:15 Bouncer's Retirement Fishing Life 06:30 Striped Bass at Lake Lanier & Trophy Trout in Helen, Georgia 11:00 Fishing the Indian River Lagoon — Redfish, Snook & Bass 16:45 Catching Two 100lb Tarpon in Biscayne Bay 21:00 The Five Biggest Changes in Fishing History 28:30 Chemically Sharpened Hooks & Circle Hook Revolution 32:00 Bouncer's Circle Hook Rigging Method — Lures & Live Bait 38:45 Solunar Tables — Predicting When Fish Bite 44:00 Social Media, Conservation & Catch-and-Release Photography 48:30 Project CSafe Details — Tournaments, Clam Restoration, Fish Fry 53:00 Supporting Conservation Organizations 55:30 Final Reflections

What do high-performance fighter jets and a stage four cancer diagnosis have in common? More than you think. This week, we're joined by Dr. Avishek “Avi” Kumar, a man who pulls double duty as both a practicing oncologist and a U.S. Air Force Flight Surgeon. Avi spends his time breaking the sound barrier in F-16s and fighting the "slow-motion car crash" of cancer diagnoses in young adults. We dive into the "too young" trap: why 30-year-olds are increasingly being hit with colon cancer and why the "warning lights" are being ignored. From the G-force toll on the body to the "caliber" of your poop (yes, Avi uses military terms for dookie) this episode is about unlearning the shame that is quite literally killing us. On the Money Meets Medicine podcast, host Dr. Jimmy Turner and co-host Justin Harvey CFP discuss Jimmy's surprise $36,000 2025 tax bill after household income rose into the $500,000–$1,000,000 range, phasing out tax breaks like the child tax credit and qualified business deduction, and raising his effective rate from ~25% to 31%. They review contributors, such as using Roth 401(k)/403(b) contributions (increasing taxable income) and taking the standard deduction after front-loading charitable deductions via a donor-advised fund in 2024. They explain safe harbor concepts, note new tax changes from the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (including SALT cap rising to $40,000 but phasing back to $10,000 as income approaches ~$600,000), and emphasize year-ahead planning to manage AGI. And they even discuss one of the most over-hyped opportunities pitched at physicians that you should consider avoiding. Every doctor needs own-occupation disability insurance. Today I welcome to the podcast Drs. Risa Adams, Robin Beardsley, and Elizabeth Parsons. They are family physicians turned psychotherapists who came together during the pandemic to write, find community, and speak for their parts. What they found in that process and wrote about in their new book, It Doesn't Have To Be This Way: A Physician's Guide To Radical Self Care (by three physicians who've been there), is something most caregivers, doctors, healthcare workers, therapists, parents, partners, anyone who finds their worth in being needed, will recognize. In This Episode The parts that helped you survive by taking care of everyone else Why fear and shame rarely get spoken out loud in medicine, or anywhere caregiving happens What finally broke each of them, and what helped Writing as a way to let parts be witnessed for the first time Why belonging and helping got tangled together so early Takeaways Helper parts learned that helping was the price of belonging The parts that make you good at caring for others are often the same parts driving burnout Burnout is a signal that the strategy has run out of space Being witnessed by people who get it can reach parts that have never been spoken out loud The culture around caregiving, in medicine and elsewhere, rewards the helper and punishes the one who needs This episode is for anyone who has ever made themselves smaller so there would be room to help. Links: Book: It Doesn't Have to Be This Way: A Physician's Guide to Radical Self-Care IFS Canadian Community Conference: A two-day online gathering for professionals using Internal Family Systems in their work, and for those exploring how IFS may support their professional practice. June 5-6, 2026, online. About the guests: Risa Adams, MD, CCFP, is a family physician with a focused practice in perinatal mental health and complex PTSD. She is a Certified IFS Therapist, Approved Clinical Consultant and Trainer with the IFS Institute. Through her own travels with mental health she has come to appreciate the complexity of being a human while being a physician, with a special interest in intergenerational trauma. Risa lives in Elora, Ontario, with her partner and two children, and hopes to help bring IFS to doctors, patients and her own communities. Robin Beardsley, MD, FCFP, a Family Physician with over 35 years' experience of comprehensive family medicine practice and psychotherapy with a focus on care for the caregiver. She is a certified IFS-I Therapist, approved Clinical Consultant, with extensive training in the Satir Model and is a trained teacher of Mindful Self Compassion. She also works with learners, as a faculty member of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa, and teaches Self Compassion for Health Care Communities. These experiences of working with and healing from empathic distress in medical communities with IFS and Self-Compassion, along with her own journey of being a caregiver, personally and professionally, has given her a greater understanding of the complexity and multiplicity of our systems. She lives in Ottawa, Ontario with her husband and adult children nearby. Elizabeth Parsons, MD, FCFP, has been a physician for over 25 years, practicing psychotherapy since 2007. She is a Certified IFS therapist and an Approved Clinical Consultant with the IFS Institute. In addition to IFS, Elizabeth is trained in trauma therapy and has been facilitating psychotherapy groups since 2010. Her interest in physician well being goes back to residency, when she surveyed medical residents on their coping strategies. She has been closely involved with the Medical Psychotherapy Association Canada since 2007, launching a self-care retreat for physicians that has run annually since 2012. Elizabeth lives in Ottawa, Ontario, with her husband and 3 children. About The One Inside I started this podcast to help spread IFS out into the world and make the model more accessible to everyone. Click the link for DATES, DETAILS, and FAQs! In this eye-opening episode, Dr. Scott Watier and Tommy Welling break down a promising randomized controlled trial exploring how a simple time-restricted eating window can meaningfully improve cognitive function in older adults with mild cognitive impairment — and what that means for everyone's long-term brain health. The hosts connect the dots between blood sugar regulation, insulin balance, and the growing body of research linking metabolic dysfunction to dementia and Alzheimer's, making a compelling case for why fasting is about far more than the number on the scale. They walk through the key mechanisms behind fasting's brain-protective effects — including circadian alignment, reduced neuroinflammation, improved insulin signaling, and the promotion of brain-derived neurotrophic factor — and why eating earlier in the day may be one of the most underrated levers anyone can pull. Listeners caring for aging loved ones will find practical, immediately actionable strategies for shifting meal timing and building a brain-supportive environment, even in small ways. The episode closes with a powerful reminder that building a consistent foundational fasting lifestyle today — anchored by protein, quality sleep, and earlier eating windows — is one of the most proactive investments anyone can make in their cognitive future. Marriage has a way of bringing our imperfections to the surface—and if we're honest, that can feel frustrating, discouraging, and even isolating at times. But what if those struggles aren't something to hide…what if they're actually where God's grace shows up most? In this episode, we're talking about how the imperfect stories we see throughout Scripture mirror our own and remind us that we're not alone in the mess. We'll unpack what it really looks like to build intimacy through vulnerability, why accepting each other's brokenness matters more than having it all together, and how God's unconditional love can shift the way you see yourself and your spouse. If you've ever felt like your marriage falls short of the ideal, this conversation will remind you that God does some of His best work right in the middle of it. Episode Highlights: The people in the Bible weren't perfect—and that's exactly where God's grace shows up, just like it does in our marriages. Real intimacy doesn't come from having it all together—it comes from being honest, letting your guard down, and choosing to love each other in the middle of the imperfections. When we truly understand God's unconditional love, it changes everything. Quotes from this Episode: I think we all have a tendency to let other people define who we are and we've got to keep our eyes on him." I love that scripture in 1 John 4 all the time, you know, we love because He first loved us.- Dana Che People have this idea that people in the Bible are saints… I really wanted to show the humanity of the people in scripture. Just like us they struggled with their faith.- Dana Che Williams We can't project the image of God if we are hiding. If we are pretending. -Dana Che We are broken people who married broken people. - Dana Che Even if people reject you, God does not reject you. - Dana Che Williams We must get our worth and our value from the Lord.- Dana Che Williams We have to be tethered in. We have to be tied together, so that when the storms of life or the gentle everyday situations of life, we aren't disconnecting. I can't be led by my feelings. I have to pray about my feelings. I have to submit my heart before the Lord. He wants your marriage to work. He wants every marriage to work.- Dr. Kim There is so much beauty in the suffering if we will just endure it. Time to Talk About it: Do you feel like you play second fiddle to anything in your spouse's life? Have you shared that with them? What routines and rhythms can we put in place to fight against the disconnect? Are there things we did before marriage, that we have stopped doing? How can we bring that excitement back to our marriage today? What can the two of you be working on together to grow the Kingdom of God? (If you don't have an answer, take the time now to go to the Lord in prayer) Mentioned in This Episode: Connect with Dana Che Awesome Marriage is on Instagram! Landscaping businesses don't lose money because they can't do the work—they lose money because they say "yes" to the wrong customers. In this episode, Keith Kalfas breaks down his exact process for qualifying leads over the phone—so you stop wasting time on dead-end quotes and start closing jobs faster with the right clients. From setting clear price expectations early to confidently guiding the conversation and pre-framing the sale before you even arrive… this is a behind-the-scenes look at how a few minutes on the phone can save hours of frustration—and make you a lot more money. "Don't drive across town unless you're going to pick up a signature and a deposit check." – Keith Kalfas What You'll Learn in This Episode: How to qualify customers in 5–6 minutes before booking a quote Why listening more than talking can actually close more deals How to identify a customer's real motivation (not just what they say) A simple way to anchor pricing without scaring people off How to confidently position yourself as the expert (without sounding pushy) Why giving time options increases your chances of booking How to pre-frame the sale so you're closing, not convincing The mindset shift that stops you from chasing every lead Key Takeaways: Time is your most expensive asset. Every unqualified quote costs you more than just gas—it drains your schedule and energy. Slow down, qualify first, and only pursue the right jobs. Confidence closes deals. Customers can feel uncertainty. When you speak with clarity, experience, and direction, they trust you faster—and trust leads to sales. Qualify before you commit. A short phone call can filter out bad fits, align expectations, and dramatically increase your close rate before you even step on-site. In this powerful conversation, JJ Flizanes sits down with clinical psychologist Dr. Nafisa Sekandari to explore the deeper truth behind anxiety, burnout, and what it really takes to create lasting happiness. This episode goes beyond surface-level solutions and dives into the root causes of emotional and physical imbalance, especially for high-achieving women navigating stress, hormonal shifts, and overwhelm. From Trauma to AwarenessDr. Nafisa shares her personal journey of immigrating to the United States from Afghanistan as a child, navigating trauma, and developing debilitating shyness and anxiety.Through intentional self-work—facing fears, studying psychology, and exploring holistic healing—she transformed her challenges into a framework that now helps others do the same. The Hidden Anxiety Behind High AchievementMany high-performing women don't realize they are being driven by anxiety.Instead of presenting as dysfunction, anxiety often shows up as:OverachievementPerfectionismBurnout and chronic stressEmotional reactivity or overwhelmDr. Nafisa emphasizes that true healing requires addressing the root cause, not just managing symptoms. The Happiness Project: Intentional Change, Month by MonthAfter experiencing a particularly “effortful” year, Dr. Nafisa launched the Happiness Project—a year-long experiment focused on creating more joy through small, consistent changes. Each month targets a different life area, including:Environment and energyRelationships and connectionParenting and personal growthThe goal is not to ignore reality—but to focus on what you can control and become more intentional about how you live. You Can't Heal What You Don't FeelOne of the most important themes of this episode is emotional awareness. In a culture that avoids discomfort, many people:Suppress negative emotionsRush to “fix” feelingsLabel themselves as “dysregulated” instead of understanding the messageDr. Nafisa reframes this:Emotions are not the problem—they are signals.Healing begins when you allow emotions to surface, process them, and release their charge through awareness, expression, and integration. The Mind-Body Connection Is EverythingBoth JJ and Dr. Nafisa highlight how emotions directly impact physical health.Examples include:Anger → liver, tension, hormonal disruptionGrief → lungs, breathing issuesChronic stress → sleep disruption, anxiety, inflammationIgnoring emotional health can manifest physically, reinforcing the need for a holistic approach to healing. The Foundations of Real ChangeDr. Nafisa's approach integrates five key areas:MindsetEmotional healthBehavior patternsPhysical health (nutrition, sleep, movement)Spiritual connectionShe emphasizes that lifestyle is the entry point for most people.Simple but powerful shifts include:Prioritizing quality sleepReducing caffeine and stabilizing blood sugarSupporting the body with nutrition and movementCreating consistent daily routinesHappiness Isn't Ignoring Reality—It's Choosing Your FocusThis episode challenges the idea that focusing on happiness is naïve or dismissive.Instead, JJ and Dr. Nafisa reinforce:You cannot control the world—but you can control your responseYour emotional state influences your experience and outcomesBeing solution-focused creates more positive impact than staying problem-focusedKey TakeawaysAnxiety often hides behind achievement and productivityEmotional suppression leads to deeper imbalanceSmall, consistent changes create long-term transformationYour body reflects your emotional stateTrue empowerment comes from awareness, alignment, and intentional livingResources & Next StepsDr. Nafisa offers:Mental Health Break PodcastThe Happiness Project communityA free program: Beginner's Guide to Anxiety Management (use code “JJ”)Final ThoughtYou don't need to control everything around you to feel better. She pioneered Women's Health at Yale in 1992 and has spent her career proving that your genes are not your destiny. We go deep into what it actually takes to reverse biological aging, not slow it, reverse it. What we cover: - The five biomarkers that are suboptimal in nearly every patient, and why your doctor is probably not testing all of them. - Why "normal" lab values are not the same as optimal, and how that gap is silently costing you your health. - Why testosterone is the most underprescribed hormone in women's health, and what you lose without it. - How epigenetics means your lifestyle is rewriting your genetic destiny every single day. Why sleep, not exercise, is the foundation everything else is built on. About Dr. Florence Comite: Florence Comite, MD, physician-scientist, endocrinologist, and global authority on healthy longevity, is founder of the Comite Center for Precision Medicine & Healthy Longevity in New York, Palo Alto, and Miami Beach. A Yale School of Medicine graduate and faculty member for twenty-five years, Dr. Comite held triple appointments in Endocrinology (Internal Medicine and Pediatrics) and Reproductive Endocrinology (Gynecology and Andrology). As a clinical investigator, she developed research and patented therapies at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Yale. In 1992, she pioneered the nation's first center for women's health at Yale, redefining integrative care for women. Dr. Comite also founded the first physician-led artificial intelligence app. Trained on decades of her proprietary real-world research, it's a powerful personalized tool to help people optimize their healthspan. What if conquering fear has been the wrong goal all along? In this episode, Jim Murphy - author of Inner Excellence and The Best Possible Life - reveals that fear isn't the root problem: the root is self-centeredness, and fixing it changes everything. We explore the "affluenza virus," the three internal adversaries (the Critic, the Trickster, and the Monkey Mind), and why the ego's obsession with comparison quietly poisons everything it touches.Walk away with a practical ego check-in, a clearer understanding of what's actually driving your fear, and five daily paths to the presence that makes fearlessness possible. This is an episode for anyone who has chased success and still felt something missing - and anyone who wants to build a life that burns brighter the more they give it away.
