In this episode, he pulls back the curtain on what compliance actually looks like in day-to-day dentistry—and why well-intentioned clinicians often put themselves at risk without realizing it. This conversation reframes clinical notes as legal evidence, not just charting formalities. Together, Dr. Seibert and Evan explore how common documentation habits—templated notes, vague progress entries, auto-populated language, and inconsistent coding—can quietly become liabilities during audits, payer disputes, or board complaints. You'll hear a candid breakdown of: What fraud, waste, and abuse actually look like in everyday dental practice (and why most of it is inadvertent) Why documentation and coding errors are among the most common sources of exposure for dentists The legal risks of upcoding, unbundling, and inaccurate procedure representation Why surgical vs. simple extraction coding is so frequently audited How "write it once and forget it" charting can come back years later—with real consequences The mindset shift dentists need: writing notes as if they will be read aloud in a courtroom Why the cover-up—or "fixing" notes improperly—is often worse than the original mistake How compliance, when done well, can actually reveal missed revenue and operational inefficiencies This episode isn't about fear-mongering. It's about clarity, ownership, and professional maturity. If you're a dentist who cares deeply about doing the right thing—clinically and ethically—this conversation will fundamentally change how you think about notes, coding, and responsibility. And this is just the foundation. Part 2 will go even deeper into consent, adverse events, and proactive strategies to protect yourself, your license, and your future. If you've ever thought: "I didn't know that could be a problem." "That's how we've always charted." "The front desk handles the coding." This episode is required listening.

Rather than predicting fate, we discuss how astrology can help you understand your nervous system patterns, emotional responses, and subconscious themes—so you can move forward with greater clarity and compassion.Remy also shares how receiving her own birth chart reading illuminated the roots of long-held wounds, softened her relationship with herself, and opened the door to lasting emotional healing. I can't quite believe that yet another year of us going on Wise Walks together has come and gone. In our last episode, I invited you to reflect on your previous Word of the Year, and I've been doing that too. Looking back, I can see how my word, Co-create, supported me in ways I couldn't have fully anticipated at the time. Sometimes we choose a word with a clear sense of direction or intuition about what will help us feel more aligned and in our True Stride. When I think about why this practice matters to me, I always come back to the idea of choosing a word for the year not as something to achieve, but as something to lean and live into. A word that helps me stay grounded when things feel uncertain and reminds me of who I want to be when life gets messy. As this new year begins, I found myself slowing down and really asking what kind of support I need right now, not just externally, but from within. On today's Wise Walk, I invite you to explore what a Word of the Year might look like for you. I share the word that emerged for me after reflecting on the past several years and what it means to create the conditions for growth, even when life feels transitional. Together, we'll consider how a single word can act as a quiet compass, helping us stay aligned, rooted, and open to what wants to unfold next. As you reflect on where you've been, where you are now, and how do you want to show up? What word best captures that intention for you this year? Is there a word you want to embody more fully, whether it feels literal and clear or more like a feeling or essence that you're drawn toward? Do you give yourself permission to let one word, or perhaps a few words, or a mantra, gently guide you through the coming year? What word could serve as a navigational star for you, grounding and centering you when things feel rocky or out of alignment? Looking back over the past five years and the seasons that shaped you, what feels ready to carry you into what's next? What word might help you transform, open, or root yourself in ways that feel aligned with who you are becoming? Which areas of your life feel most important to focus on right now, whether physical, mental, spiritual, or relational? Can you choose one word to serve as a steady reminder of how far you've come and where you're headed next? And as you acknowledge the work you've already done, how can you honor your continued growth and unfold it with compassion and trust? I look forward to going on this epic adventure with you in the coming year and blooming in ways we can't even expect right now. Trusting that it will unfold naturally. As always, I would love to hear what you took away from today's episode.  Feel free to reach out and share. Then tune in to next Thursday's Wise Walk for another conversation. Until then, happy, happy New Year. In this episode: [03:37] Upon reflection, the idea of opening myself up to further possibilities washed over me. For the last 5 years, I've been going inward and looking for words that would help me grow. [04:44] I give myself permission to choose again and wonder what the possibilities are if I open myself up. [05:38] There has been a tending to my inner self, so my outer self can show up the way it's meant to. Co-create supported me last year, and this year the word that popped up for me is bloom. [06:06] Bloom is tending your garden and appreciating nature's growth from the soil nourishing a seedling, to growing and flourishing. [07:01] I love that this word means that I'm going to put some roots down even in my transitional stage. [10:03] Another cool thing about the word of the year is that many others including striders like yourself are going on this journey with me. [11:03] Thank you so much for listening, and I look forward to going on this adventure with you in the coming year! Memorable Quotes: "Blooming isn't about pushing or proving. It's about creating the conditions that allow growth to happen." - Mary Tess "You don't have to know exactly what's coming next to trust that something meaningful is unfolding." - Mary Tess "A word for the year isn't something to chase. It's something to return to when you need grounding." - Mary Tess "Sometimes the most powerful growth happens quietly, beneath the surface, long before we see the bloom." - Mary Tess Links and Resources: Mary Tess Rooney Email Heart Value Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram

The Hidden Cost of the "Perfect" Journey (and how to avoid it) / Kendra Shimmell / Ep. #244

Sorry, but I have to say it...We are optimizing our way to boredom.Measure everything, test every variation, and optimize the customer journey until it's "perfect". That seems to be the mantra of modern business today. But in this first episode of 2026, our guest Kendra Shimmell throws a big wrench in this machinery.Kendra argues that while things like A/B testing validate what works right now, they often come at a steep cost. Because if we rely solely on reacting to quantitative data to make small, incremental improvements, we eventually, you guessed it, optimize our way to mediocrity and boredom. We lose the soul in our services.Kendra shares a painful example of this phenomenon in action: social media algorithms. You click on a cool backpack once, and the system thinks it has you figured out. Suddenly, your entire feed is just backpacks. A lot of backpacks. The algorithm is "optimized," sure. But it has stripped away all the serendipity, turning a place of discovery into a repetitive, boring experience. As Kendra put it, just because you can keep a user clicking doesn't mean you aren't exhausting them. So, the question is: Why do organizations default to this? Why are we so focused on squeezing out efficiency rather than exploring new avenues? When I asked Kendra, her answer was blunt: "Greed, Fear, and Confusion." Ouch. The greed to squeeze out the last 1% of revenue. The fear that if they try something new, they won't find product-market fit again. And the confusion that comes from ignoring the fact that humans are wildly irrational beings driven by feelings, not spreadsheets. This conversation is a wake-up call to stop treating our customers like subjects in a scientific experiment and start treating them as people to co-create with. And if your organization isn't ready to hear that? Well, Kendra has some advice on how to be a little "sneaky" to get the work done anyway! The conversation ends with a question that pairs perfectly with a long walk, somewhere where you can let a little serendipity back into your day: "When, where, and how is it most important to be human?".Happy New Year and keep making a positive impact!Be well, ~ Marc--- [ 1. In this episode, Cindy Esliger confronts self-doubt and explores what it takes to counteract it in our careers. Self-doubt shows up quietly, like a persistent undercurrent, and if we're not careful it will chip away at our confidence while feeling logical. How do we reshape our response to self-doubt? Cindy discusses how a subtle but powerful mindset shift can lead to the kind of career growth we didn't let ourselves believe was possible. Believing in ourselves is choosing to build the version of our career that we really want to experience.    When self-doubt takes hold of us, it appears as a slippery, sneaky voice that whispers we're not ready or not qualified, and left unchecked, that limits our career growth. It convinces us to stay in our lane and keep quiet. There are systemic inequities at play and performance pressure that contributes to this doubt. But we sometimes can't identify that it's happening. So Cindy points out the five most common red flags that self-doubt may be showing up: 1. Waiting to be picked, 2. Discounting praise or deflecting credit, 3. Over-apologizing or hedging our ideas, 4. Passing on opportunities, and 5. Mentally beating ourselves up for not being perfect.Cindy immediately counters these red flags with five effective strategies for combatting self-doubt: 1. Reframe failure as growth, 2. Get out of our head and into motion, 3. Focus on one brave action at a time, 4. Shape our mindset to be more encouraging, and 5. Practice a little positivity. Cynicism often feels safer because it protects us from disappointment, but Cindy urges us to believe in ourselves instead. After all, what do we have to lose? Countering self-doubt is about choosing to take action even when we don't yet feel confident. Resources discussed in this episode:Guide to Counteracting Your Self-DoubtAstronomic AudioConfidence Collective—Contact Cindy Esliger Career Confidence Coaching: website | instagram | facebook | linkedin | email Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. On this, our 307th Evolutionary Lens livestream, we discuss short form video (SFV), advertisers coming for our dreams, and a review of where we are, and where we are headed. Short form video has negative impacts on both cognitive capacity and mental health in youth and adults; in the context of recent research, we discuss laugh track, philosophy of science, and how tiny actions that appear to have no harm can be very harmful in the aggregate. Then: humans have a long history of accessing our hypnogogic states—between waking and sleep—for creative or spiritual purposes. Now, most companies surveyed are looking into “targeted dream incubation” as a way to change consumer behavior, including Burger King with their 2018 green-bunned “Nightmare King” burger. How do we resist? Finally: an intercalary period is when the absence of an even number of days in the year catches up with our calendars, and we add things like leap days. The mismatch between the solstice, Christmas, and new year's may point to this reality, and we seem to be living in a metaphorical one. We can't predict what comes next; the political landscape is in chaotic motion; Silver's rise in price may set off market collapse—so what can you do?
