Seit Jahren schwankt die Sonderverwaltungsregion zwischen Wut, Resignation und politischer Kontrolle. Das Nationale Sicherheitsgesetz von 2020 hat den Spielraum für Kritik drastisch eingeschränkt: Freiheitsaktivisten sitzen im Gefängnis, pro-demokratische Parteien, unabhängige Medien und NGOs haben aufgegeben. Die Demokratiebewegung gilt als weitgehend zerschlagen. Doch was bedeutet das heute konkret? Wie viel Freiheit und Zivilgesellschaft sind in Hongkong noch übrig? Die einen Medienkonsumenten hören und sehen nichts über die steigende Kriminalitätsrate, die Zunahme politischer Gewalt und den wirtschaftlichen Niedergang des Landes. Die Anderen werden tagtäglich mit diesen Meldungen konfrontiert. Wie kann das sein? Darüber diskutiert Maximilian Tichy mit dem Medienkritiker Peter Welchering und Alexander Teske (Autor von „Inside Tagesschau“). Im Zentrum steht die Frage, warum Angriffe gegen Journalisten von Plattformen wie Tichys Einblick oder freien Reportern in der Tagesschau und anderen öffentlich-rechtlichen Formaten kaum oder gar nicht thematisiert werden. Vor zehn Jahren endete die Weltklimakonferenz von Paris mit einem historischen Ergebnis: Die Staatengemeinschaft einigte sich damals auf das wegweisende 1,5-Grad-Ziel. Doch vom Aufbruchsgeist von Paris ist bei der diesjährigen UN-Klimakonferenz im brasilianischen Belém nur wenig zu spüren. Kurz vor dem Ende der COP30 ringt die Staatengemeinschaft um einen Kompromiss, um trotz der fortschreitenden Erderwärmung weiterhin im Bereich des 1,5-Grad-Ziels zu bleiben. BR-Reporter Jakob Mayr beobachtet für die ARD die Verhandlungen vor Ort in der Amazonas-Stadt Belém.
