Discussing the unhealthy obsession we have with metrics in certain aspects of life. Whether it be our body weight, body fat %, weight on a bar, grade on a paper or time on a clock, too many of us make the mistake of using these metrics to define who we are as a person. We can all think of times when we allowed a number to impact what we thought of ourselves as a human being but that’s not what these metrics are for. Our value as a person goes well beyond what a scale or a dollar sign can ever tell us.
Addressing the issue of the continued growth of polarization between the two major political parties in the United States. I also talk about how this growing polarization between the parties is creating larger gaps within our communities and creating more problems than its solving. I believe that through being more aware of our biases, the potential biases of others and being more open to having conversations with those who hold opposing views, that we can close the gaps towards the center.

There seems to be an issue, in certain parts of the United States at the very least, with people being willing to ask for help. It seems as though asking for help in certain areas leads people to perceive themselves as weak. This perception of weakness leads them to feel so self-conscious about getting help that they choose not to do so. Considering that living in society is an inherent acceptance of help daily, a negative feeling about accepting help in certain areas of life is somewhat illogical.
An interview with my good friend Breyen Canfield. Breyen was my first weightlifting coach, is a former professional gambler, traveled across the states co-running a company called Strength Specific Seminars, has a degree in philosophy and is currently a law student at the Boyd School of Law in Las Vegas. Veterans hear people say “thank you for your service,” on a regular basis. That’s cool and all, but how many people are actually grateful for our service? Are the actions of most of the people expressing this gratitude in line with their verbal expression of appreciation? This episode was recorded in an effort to help all of us reflect on whether or not we are expressing gratitude for the freedoms we have with our actions, instead of paying lip service to those who have served.

We all doubt ourselves at times. Self depricating talk is common in our culture but it doesn't mean it is the right thing to do.
