40 EPISODES SON!!! THANK YOU FOR COMING BACK! This week I sat down with Macabre Noir of The Weeping Glass to talk about her shop, The Scarehouse, Atrocity Exhibition X, and SO MUCH MORE. The Weeping Glass is an Oddity and Antique shop. I saw the name on the building and checked out their social media to see what kind of things they sold and I was immediately interested. I've driven by it numerous times and haven't been able to check it out until last night before the interview. It is FILLED with so many awesome things from Coffin Nails, Creepy Dolls, Animal Skeletons, Old Medical Kits, Art, Dental Tools and so much more. I just really wanted to know how someone got involved with selling Oddities and cool stuff like that and I learned so much more. When I got to the shop I was pleasantly surprised with our first ever second guest. Lilith DeVille was there preparing for their next big event on October 19th called Atrocity Exhibition X. DeVille has been friends and worked with Macabre for many years and he jumped on the Mic at the end to help her explain what exactly Atrocity is. This podcast was SO FUCKING AWESOME. Lori credits her theater education and experience for her ability to be such a successful stage manager Macabre and Aaron Doctor Morose discuss how the Atrocity Exhibition grew and matured with each new member that joined the family Through increased expectations from the audience and crew, the performance gets bigger and better every year Using technology to keep yourself on track Why “no pants and fire everywhere” would be an excellent tagline for Atrocity The creative process and how it’s enjoyable torture as opposed to pointy stick torture Lori discusses turning people back onto literature with her Literary Brothel, where you leave reality, enter a sacred space, and hear good stories Realizing that your own true story is a good story How theater helps promote empathy What is weird to you is someone else’s normal Lori explains how Atrocity is an example of theatre of cruelty, an academic theory of theatre. Cruelty is not violence; it is the ability to use visions that you’re not usually subjected to reach into the repressed, dark area of the human mind.
