Many of our listeners have probably never heard of Johnny Horton, but he was one of the best and most popular honky tonk singers during the late 1950s. His specialty were historically inspired songs. Johnny tragically died young in an accident and there is a chilling legend connected to that death. He had a premonition that came true. That wasn't the only paranormal thing. Ireland. A haunted inn. A witch with a grudge. And one very unlucky writer who should have known better. This week, we are heading across the pond for another Damian McCarthy masterpiece, Hokum — the latest from the Irish filmmaker who gave us Caveat and Oddity and has apparently made it his personal mission to make sure we never sleep again. Adam Scott stars as Ohm Bauman, an author who travels to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents' ashes and ends up with way more than he bargained for. Because of course he does. We're breaking down the atmosphere, the folklore, the scares — and yes, we have thoughts. McCarthy's slow-burn style is either your love language or your nightmare (or both), and we are absolutely here for it.Director: Damian McCarthyTawny: 3.9/5Miriam: 4.8/5Send us Fan MailSupport the showAll things TCHF: https://linktr.ee/twochicksandahorrorflickSupport the Show:Join our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/twochicksandahorrorflickTCHF shop: https://twochicks.threadless.com/designs/podcast-cover-art/Connect with Us:Join our horror community on Discord: https://discord.gg/8WBByTQPFXWatch us on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@twochicksandahorrorflickFollow us on Social:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/twochicksandahorrorflickFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/twochicksandahorrorflickTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@twochicksandahorrorflickTwitter: https://twitter.com/twochicksHF Send us your reviews, thoughts, and recommendations: twochicksandahorrorflick@gmail.com or visit our site https://www.twochicksandahorrorflick.com/

Product-market fit is often treated like a switch: either you have it, or you do not. But in reality, it tends to behave more like a spectrum. A company can have early traction, real customer interest, and even paying users, and still not be in the market where the fit is strongest. That was one of the most useful ideas in Collin Stewart's conversation with Thomas Alflen, co-founder of Oddity.ai, on the Predictable Revenue Podcast. As Thomas put it, product-market fit did not feel binary in practice. It felt stronger in some markets than in others. And that is the real lesson for founders: early signs of demand matter, but they are not the finish line. The job is to keep testing where the problem is clearest, where customers feel it most urgently, and where your solution becomes easier to repeat and scale. Highlights include: Early Market Exploration (13:30), Impact of COVID-19 on Business and Market Shift (17:24), Market Selection Criteria and Variables (21:54), Recognizing Product-Market Fit and Its Spectrum (24:56), and more... HOKUM (2026) — Full Spoiler Breakdown & Ending Explained SPOILER WARNING — this one is fully spoiled. Cupcake and WillDaBeast go deep on Hokum, Damien McCarthy's 2026 supernatural Irish folklore horror starring Adam Scott, and nothing is off limits. What starts as a haunted hotel story quietly becomes something much more devastating: a film about guilt, accidental violence, and whether the ghosts we carry are out to destroy us or set us free. We unpack the full mythology of the witch in the honeymoon suite, trace every character's haunting back to its source, and wrestle with whether McCarthy earned his ending or showed too much too soon. Mike also gets personal in a way that genuinely stopped us in our tracks. We also break down the full Damien McCarthy filmography fingerprint....every crossbow, chalk circle, chained man, and creepy rabbit across Caveat, Oddity, and Hokum...and make the case that these three films deserve to be packaged and sold as an Irish folklore trilogy. Hokum Review | Caveat & Oddity Director Damian McCarthy Swings Big with Adam ScottIrish folklore horror is having a moment — and Hokum (2026), the latest from writer-director Damian McCarthy (Caveat, Oddity), might be its most ambitious entry yet. Adam Scott (Severance, Parks and Rec, Krampus, Step Brothers) plays an author so deeply unlikable you'll be rooting against him, but McCarthy keeps pulling you into his strange, slow-burning world anyway. Think The Shining, 1408, What Lies Beneath, and Creepshow blended with ancient Irish mythology and a very weird goat. Austin Amelio (The Walking Dead) also appears in a memorable supporting role. Cupcake crushes on this sexy dude.Jose (Cupcake) and Mike (WillDaBeast) debate whether McCarthy's supernatural stew holds together and whether this completes what just might be an Irish folklore horror trilogy. Verdicts incoming. Spoilers? Save those for Sunday's SPOILER'D episode.- - - - - - - - - -WE ARE WATCH SKIP PLUS!FOLLOW/LIKE/SUBSCRIBE/REVIEW/LOVEEmail us: WatchSkipPlus@gmail.comBe kind. Be open. Synopsis Ohm is a writer struggling to let go of his past. In an effort to move on, he travels to Ireland to spread his parents’ ashes. When he checks into the very hotel his mom and dad stayed at on their honeymoon, Ohm learns about the witch said to haunt the building. Some shady business is afoot. But, having some shady business to attend to himself he goes to his bedroom with a rope and a dream. Fiona, an employee at the hotel stops him from committing the ultimate L, and is later discovered to be missing. Ohm sets out to find the woman who saved his life and hopefully return the favor. Review of Hokum Hokum is directed by Damian McCarthy, who also directed both Caveat and Oddity, which are both great movies. Hokum follows suit with the same feel and spooky imagery. If I could describe Damian McCarthy's style in one word, I would call it unsettling. While I think I like the premise of Caveat and Oddity better than Hokum, the themes were better in this film. At hokum's core there is a message about self-forgiveness and allowing yourself to heal what is broken within. The main character Ohm, played by Adam Scott, who you may recognize from Krampus (or like Parks and Rec and Severance), is a man who did something terrible and never let himself forget it. He became the villain in his own story and lets that show in the conversations and interactions he has with others. But just like the story he is writing, maybe our character will learn to do something selfless. It’s beautiful, shocking, and unexpected. I will say that I was hoping for a little more out of some plot lines. The witch feels like a subplot that barely makes it into the movie, but maybe I’m just being nitpicky. Score 9/10
This week we dive into Hokum (2026), the latest eerie offering from Damian McCarthy (Caveat, Oddity). Known for crafting slow-burn nightmares built on atmosphere and unease, McCarthy returns with a story steeped in tension, guilt, and creeping dread. We talk about McCarthy's signature style—minimalist storytelling, suffocating tension, and the kind of scares that sneak up on you long after the lights go out. In the satisfying new horror movie Hokum, Adam Scott plays a misanthropic writer who takes his parents' ashes to the lonely Irish inn where they honeymooned many years ago. There's just a few things dampening his stay: surly staff, a local eccentric and a witch haunting the hotel. Hokum was directed by Damian McCarthy, known for making similarly spooky films like Caveat and Oddity. Damian McCarthy's 2024 horror film, “Oddity,” sent a chill down our spines, so we were eager to check out his latest: this time about a hotel whose honeymoon suite is said to be haunted by a witch. Prior to this film the two joined forces to craft McCarthy's supernatural thriller, Oddity. This time out, they double down on the dread and jack up the jump scares to keep audiences on the edge of, and often a few feet above, their seats. Written and directed by Damian McCarthy, Hokum stars Adam Scott as novelist Ohm Bauman. When Bauman retreats to a remote inn to scatter his parents' ashes, he's consumed by tales of a witch that haunts the honeymoon suite. Soon, disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance force him to confront dark corners of his past. BRIAN PHILIP DAVIS Brian Philip Davis is known for his work in genre cinema, with films showcased at major festivals including Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca, TIFF, FrightFest, and Fantastic Fest. This week we host one of the most exciting horror filmmakers of the decade – Damian McCarthy, the twisted mind behind Caveat, Oddity and now, Hokum. It's the biggest film in Damian's career so far, with his biggest star, Adam Scott playing Ohm, a deeply flawed American writer who travels to Ireland, to spread his parent's ashes. Whilst staying in a creaky old hotel, he stumbled across dark human conspiracy and witchy haunting. Damian is so much nicer than Ohm, and this is a cheery conversation about the cheeriest scary film I've seen in a while! These include theaters, schools, hospitals, restaurants and a cemetery. Join us for the history and hauntings of Canada's Edmonton! The Moment in Oddity features the Silver Wraith. Bob Odenkirk playing a small-town interim sheriff squaring off against the Yakuza is not a sentence that should make sense, let alone sell a movie. It sounds like a dare, or the kind of idea you giggle at before moving on. And yet, “Normal” takes that slightly absurd premise and treats it with just enough sincerity, grit, and tonal whiplash to make you lean in instead of check out (read our review). The film, starring Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul,” “Nobody”) and written by Derek Kolstad— the screenwriting architect behind all the “John Wick” films— follows a small-town sheriff named Ulysses who finds himself pulled into a spiraling situation involving organized crime, buried history, and a small, quiet town that's about to get a lot louder.READ MORE: ‘Balls Up': Mark Wahlberg, Paul Walter Hauser and Peter Farrelly Go All-In On R-Rated Chaos, ‘Transformers,' ‘Resident Evil', ‘I Play Rocky,' Marvel and More [The Discourse Podcast]It works because “Normal” doesn't behave like a single movie. It slyly shapeshifts. A dry, slightly offbeat character piece suddenly turns tense and violent, then veers into dark comedy, a thriller, and back again. The movie wants you to feel those shifts, to adjust in real time, preferably with a crowd that's hooting and hollering right alongside you.

Hokum (2026), directed by Damian McCarthy (Caveat, Oddity), is a new supernatural psychological horror story set in Ireland that blends grief, folklore, and isolation — and a troubled writer locked away in a haunted hotel room.Starring Adam Scott (Severance, Parks and Recreation), the film follows a novelist who retreats to a remote inn to scatter his parents' ashes only to become entangled in a chilling legend about a witch tied to the honeymoon suite. As visions intensify and a mysterious disappearance unfolds, the story forces him to confront both the supernatural and his own past.In this episode of Talking Strange, McCarthy returns to the show to break down the folklore behind the film, how atmosphere drives fear, and why some stories refuse to stay buried.Would you stay in a room with a dark history? _______________________________________________________________ The Talking Strange Show with Aaron Sagers is a weekly paranormal pop culture show featuring celebrity and author interviews, as well as experts in all things strange and unexplained.
