A very festive episode from Three Dumplings' co-hosts Peony Lim, Kit Lee and Hannah-Rose Yee. Happy end of 2018!
It's the last episode of our first season, and we're going out with a bang. Literally. Join blogger Peony Lim, photographer Kit Lee and writer Hannah-Rose Yee as they chat about finding love in a hopeless place, by which we mean 2018.
It's the one thing that Asian and mixed race women like co-hosts blogger Peony Lim, photographer Kit Lee and writer Hannah-Rose Yee are asked almost daily, and a question that comes loaded with microagressions and othering. In episode five, the penultimate episode of this first season of Three Dumplings, we talk about ways to approach the idea of race and identity in a new, more open way.
In the first episode of Three Dumplings, co-hosts writer Hannah-Rose Yee, blogger Peony Lim and photographer Kit Lee share their fondest memories of growing up Asian and the movies, television, books and pop culture that they felt represented them best. We're talking about everything from The Joy Luck Club to Lucy Liu to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon to Mulan & more. (By more we mean Henry Golding). Note: This episode was recorded before the Crazy Rich Asians release date was moved to September 14.
“I’m a digital dinosaur,” says Peony Lim who has made a living from her personal website for the past decade. While at university Peony was spotted by that first wave of street style photographers (shout out to Vanessa Jackman!) and went on to create her own presence online.Of course, for this special beauty-themed series of Head Ovary Heels we asked Peony all our beauty questions. In return, we learnt about setting sprays, having a bath to keep your makeup on and her travel tips.“I feel that real beauty comes from difference, not from conforming to some kind of generic stereotype,” says Peony. Amen to that.Follow Peony on Instagram, Twitter and PInterest all @PeonyLim✨Music: Ghost Hands by Cal Folger Day⚡️Thank you to our Season 4 sponsor In Good CoYour besties mean better buys. Hannah-Rose Yee is my internet writing crush. We have the same pop culture aesthetic and I shamelessly like every Tweet she writes. We talk about journalism in 2018 and the different places you can get your writing seen (check out Badlands Journal). We talk about writing for online and print and IRL friends and internet friends. And of course because this is a special beauty-themed series of Head ovary Heels we talk about beauty and the role megababe Alexa Chung has played in Hannah’s life.I should also mention that this episode is a nice companion piece to the Peony Lim interview - as both women reference each other.Follow Hannah-Rose Yee on Instagram and Twitter @HannahRoseRose✨Music: Ghost Hands by Cal Folger Day⚡️Thank you to our Season 4 sponsor In Good CoYour besties mean better buys.
