The idea of traditions can feel heavy and like once you do it you're stuck doing them forever… I wanted to do a fullll podcast episode that would give you lots of ideas that feel light and fun and can be so special to your family.  Things that make you all feel more connected… and that feel so unique and important to your family. It's easy for parenting to feel like a constant sprint sometimes… school, sports, meals, naps… it's a refreshing change to lean into special things that your family does. I realized how precious this is when one of my kids wrote a little paper about one of our traditions in 1st grade.  You realize… this is the stuff they remember and the resinates deep. This whole thing is about pausing these busy life days we are all living and thinking about emotional anchors we can create throughout the year. Traditions don't have to be rigid. They don't have to be expensive. And they definitely don't have to be perfect. Today we're talking about a fresh way to think about family traditions: Some traditions you repeat every year  Some you rotate  Some you try once and just remember  Some you write down so your family builds its own memory playbook Because what kids remember most isn't perfection… it's connection. This removes pressure and keeps the magic. Keep it somewhere easy like kitchen or nightstand. Traditions evolve as your family grows. Traditions are not about doing more. They're about choosing moments that slow life down… even just a little. You don't need to create ten new traditions this year.  You don't need Pinterest-perfect ideas. Start with one small thing that feels natural to your family. Maybe it lasts one year… maybe it becomes something your kids talk about forever. The real goal isn't perfection. It's creating a feeling… a rhythm… a sense that no matter how busy life gets, your family has small anchors that bring you back to each other. And over time, those moments become the story of your family.

La Odisea es, junto a la Ilíada, el gran poema épico de la antigüedad clásica. Pero va mucho más allá, es la base de todos los relatos que versan sobre el viaje, la pérdida y el anhelo de volver a casa. La Ilíada, cuyos mitos veíamos en una ContraHistoria hace solo unas semanas, se centra en la furia de Aquiles y el estruendo de la guerra de Troya. La Odisea, también atribuida a Homero, nos sumerge en las consecuencias de esa guerra a través de los ojos de Ulises u Odiseo, el héroe que prefiere el ingenio a la espada. La historia comienza diez años después de la caída de Troya. Nos presenta a un hombre que ha perdido todo excepto su deseo de recuperar su identidad como rey, marido y padre en la pequeña isla de Ítaca. Lo que hace que este relato siga siendo fascinante miles de años después es su estructura fragmentada y muy moderna. La narración no es lineal. Comienza en el mismo nudo de la trama, con el hijo de Ulises, Telémaco, buscando desesperadamente noticias de su padre mientras los pretendientes de su madre devoran su herencia. Esta primera parte nos muestra el vacío que deja la ausencia del héroe. A diferencia de los héroes tradicionales que persiguen la gloria eterna en el campo de batalla, lo que mueve a Ulises es el “nostos", el regreso al hogar. Su viaje por el Mediterráneo es una lucha constante contra el olvido y contra su propia deshumanización. Cada monstruo que enfrenta es un obstáculo que intenta apartarlo de sí mismo. Poseidón, el dios del mar, actúa como la fuerza implacable del destino que castiga su orgullo, mientras que Atenea representa la sabiduría que lo guía. El viaje es físico si, pero sobre todo psicológico. El guerrero asistido por su astucia debe debe aprender que la paciencia y el disfraz son a menudo mucho más efectivos que la espada. El clímax de la obra ocurre cuando el héroe llega finalmente a su patria, la pequeña isla de Ítaca. No regresa al son de las trompetas, sino como un mendigo andrajoso, una prueba final de humildad y la muestra definitiva de su que Ulises, antes que cualquier otra cosa, es el primer gran estratega. Esta semana se han cumplido cuatro años del comienzo de la invasión rusa a Ucrania, un conflicto que arrancó como una crisis regional y ha terminado por modificar los equilibrios geopolíticos de todo el mundo. Rusia ha quedado ya totalmente aislada de Occidente y eso ha empujado al país hacia la órbita de la China popular. Entre medias, la Federación Rusa se ha transformado definitivamente en una autocracia con Vladimir Putin a su cabeza. Lo que en origen el Kremlin concibió como una operación relámpago de apenas tres días para descabezar al gobierno ucraniano y hacerse con el control de país, fracasó estrepitosamente en solo 48 horas. Desde aquel entonces la guerra ha pasado por varias etapas: desde el asedio devastador de Mariúpol y las exitosas contraofensivas ucranianas en Járkov y Jersón, hasta llegar a la actual y agónica guerra de desgaste en la que el frente apenas se mueve. El balance humano es simplemente estremecedor. Aunque las cifras oficiales se guardan con celo, se estima que unos dos millones de soldados han muerto, han resultado heridos o han desaparecido en combate. En estos momentos Rusia mantiene el control de casi el 20% del territorio ucraniano, lo ha anexionado incluso a la federación. Este último invierno ha sido especialmente duro debido a que los ataques rusos se han centrado en destruir la infraestructura energética para dejar a la población civil sin luz ni calefacción con temperaturas extremadamente bajas. En el aspecto militar Ucrania se ha convertido en un laboratorio de tecnología bélica en el que los drones han pasado a ser los protagonistas hasta tal punto que son responsables del 80% de las bajas. Han pasado de usar drones comerciales modificados a sistemas con inteligencia artificial y fibra óptica inmunes a las interferencias. Incluso en el mar Negro Ucrania ha logrado hundir o dañar un tercio de la flota rusa valiéndose de drones navales. Eso ha forzado a la flota rusa del mar Negro a cambiar de cuartel general para alejarse de las costas ucranianas. Pero el coste de estas hazañas está siendo inmenso para Ucrania. La población del país, que antes de la anexión de Crimea superaba los 46 millones de habitantes, hoy es de unos 29 millones, la economía está devastada y depende por completo de la ayuda de la Unión Europea. La natalidad está por los suelos y las reclutas son cada vez más difíciles. Un dato: la edad media de soldados ucranianos es ya de 43 años. Rusia, por su parte, ha logrado resistir las sanciones internacionales transformando su economía en una economía de guerra totalmente volcada en el gasto bélico. Han conseguido esquivar el bloqueo financiero occidental mediante una "flota fantasma" que vende a descuento petróleo a la India y a China. En estos momentos el futuro se decide en una mesa de negociación que se ha abierto en Ginebra a instancias de Estados Unidos. Hay dos planes enfrentados: uno presentado por Estados Unidos que exige concesiones muy dolorosas para Ucrania, como renunciar a la OTAN y ceder Crimea y el Donbás; y otro de las potencias europeas que busca condiciones algo más equilibradas. Aunque se habla de progresos, Zelenski se resiste a ceder territorio mientras los bombardeos continúen. La voluntad de alcanzar la paz, al menos por parte de los ucranianos, está ahí, pero el final de esta pesadilla todavía no se ve cercano. Public School Failure In Baltimore: Is It Spreading Like Cancer Across America? In an era where news travels instantly across Facebook, Instagram, and every major digital platform, stories about struggling public schools often fade quickly from the national spotlight. Baltimore City Public Schools operates with enormous financial resources. In 2024 alone, the district managed a $1.7 billion budget. Yet despite the funding, only about 10% of students tested proficient in math, a statistic that shocked parents, policymakers, and educators alike. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast social media like their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. But investigative journalist Christopher Papst believes what is happening inside Baltimore's classrooms is not just a local crisis, it may be a warning sign for the rest of the country. El Mencho, jefe absoluto y fundador del Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación, murió el pasado domingo tras un operativo del Gobierno mexicano en la localidad de Tapalpa, una pequeña ciudad del Estado de Jalisco. La operación fue un éxito que la presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum se ha apresurado a capitalizar políticamente. Coincide además con el aniversario de la detención de "El Chapo" Guzmán hace doce años. La captura y muerte de Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias "El Mencho", supone el fin, por ahora, de la era de los grandes capos en el narcotráfico mexicano. La localización del Mencho fue fruto de varios meses de trabajo por parte de la inteligencia militar mexicana en colaboración con la DEA, la agencia antinarcóticos de Estados Unidos. Aprovecharon su deterioro físico por una insuficiencia renal crónica y pusieron en seguimiento a su última pareja sentimental. Tras detectar una serie de movimientos anómalos de su pareja en Tapalpa, las fuerzas especiales rodearon su refugio. Tras un tiroteo con sus escoltas, que hicieron frente al ejército para permitir que su jefe huyese, el Mencho resultó herido y murió durante el traslado aéreo a Ciudad de México. La confirmación oficial de su identidad se dio horas después. La trayectoria del Mencho es una pequeña historia de la evolución del crimen organizado en México a lo largo de las últimas décadas. Pasó de simple recolector de aguacates y vigilante de cultivos de marihuana a líder del cártel más violento del continente. Tras ser deportado en dos ocasiones de Estados Unidos, donde se dedicó en su juventud al menudeo de droga, se sumó al cártel del Milenio que fue desmantelado por las autoridades hace quince años. Fue entonces cuando fundó el cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación, una organización que, desde sus orígenes, se distinguió por una estructura militarizada, el uso de drones con explosivos y una expansión muy agresiva que hoy alcanza a todo el país. Sus tentáculos, de hecho, se dejan sentir en el extranjero. Aunque el gobierno presenta este golpe como un éxito de la nueva estrategia de lucha contra el narco, no hubiese sido posible de no haber participado los estadounidenses en la operación. La crisis del fentanilo y las amenazas de aranceles o intervención directa han obligado al gobierno de Sheinbaum a aparcar su retórica antiimperialista y cooperar con la DEA y el FBI. El vacío de poder que deja el Mencho abre tres escenarios: una reestructuración del cártel bajo el mando de su hijastro, Juan Carlos Valencia; una guerra civil interna entre los jefes regionales; o una ofensiva del debilitado cártel de Sinaloa para recuperar el terreno perdido frente al Mencho en los últimos años. La capacidad de respuesta del cártel quedó demostrada el mismo domingo con más de 250 cortes en carreteras y ataques coordinados en 20 estados. Ciudades como Guadalajara quedaron paralizadas durante varias horas. A medio plazo el riesgo es la atomización de la violencia en células más pequeñas dedicadas a la extorsión y el secuestro, lo que podría comprometer la seguridad de eventos internacionales como el Mundial de Fútbol de este mismo año. A largo plazo poco se ha arreglado. El narcotráfico no va a desaparecer por mucho que eliminen a todos los capos. Ese negocio seguirá existiendo mientras haya demanda en el mercado estadounidense. El Tribunal Supremo de Estados Unidos emitió el pasado viernes una trascendental sentencia al declarar ilegales buena parte de los aranceles impuestos por Donald Trump hace casi un año. Con una mayoría de 6 votos frente a 3, los magistrados del Supremo determinaron que el presidente excedió sus facultades al utilizar la Ley de Poderes Económicos de Emergencia Internacional de 1977 para aplicar gravámenes de forma unilateral sin permiso del Congreso. El núcleo de la sentencia sostiene que, si bien esta ley permite regular importaciones en situaciones de emergencia nacional, no otorga al Ejecutivo el poder de establecer impuestos fronterizos ilimitados, una competencia que la Constitución reserva exclusivamente al Congreso bajo el principio histórico de que no puede haber impuestos sin representación. Esta decisión anula más del 60% de los aranceles del llamado "Día de la Liberación", incluyendo el arancel global del 10% y los aranceles adicionales aplicados a China, México y Canadá. El impacto económico es de gran envergadura. Se estima que el gobierno podría verse obligado a reembolsar más de 175.000 millones de dólares a los importadores afectados. Aunque técnicamente estos reembolsos podrían ejecutarse de forma automática mediante los sistemas digitales de aduanas, existe el temor de que la administración imponga trabas burocráticas para retrasar los pagos, obligando así a muchas pequeñas empresas a recurrir a largos y costosos litigios. El origen jurídico de este revés se encuentra en la demanda interpuesta por empresas como Learning Resources, que esgrimieron ante el Tribunal Supremo que la competencia para gravar el comercio internacional pertenece al poder legislativo, no al ejecutivo. La reacción de Trump fue inmediata y virulenta, calificó el fallo de "antiestadounidense" y atacó incluso a los jueces que él mismo había nominado. No obstante, en un intento por esquivar la sentencia, el presidente anunció rápidamente un nuevo arancel global del 15% recurriendo a la Sección 122 de la Ley de Comercio de 1974. Esta vía alternativa, aunque legalmente más sólida para el corto plazo, tiene límites temporales y de cuantía que no existían con las medidas que tomó en abril del año pasado. A largo plazo, el fallo representa una victoria importante para la división de poderes y el Estado de derecho. Impide que futuros presidentes utilicen presuntas emergencias nacionales para eludir el control parlamentario sobre la política fiscal. Pero la batalla comercial persiste. El Gobierno Trump no se da por vencido y explora otros resquicios legales como las Secciones 232 y 301 para mantener los aranceles sobre el acero, el aluminio y productos tecnológicos. Entretanto, la realidad económica ha contradicho los objetivos iniciales del gobierno: el déficit comercial no se ha reducido y el coste de estas tensiones arancelarias sigue recayendo directamente sobre las empresas y los consumidores estadounidenses, que son quienes están pagando los productos importados más caros en un entorno de incertidumbre creciente. You can believe that God loves you—and still struggle to truly feel it. In this episode, I explore why hearing the phrase “God loves you” isn't always enough to heal the heart, especially for women who've lived through abuse, trauma, or spiritually unsafe environments. I share personally how even after coming to faith, and even after growing in biblical knowledge, there were seasons when my nervous system and emotions didn't align with the truth I believed. I knew God loved me—but parts of me still didn't feel safe enough to receive it. And in certain seasons, letting God love me in new ways felt surprisingly hard.  

Recently, I attended a couple of exciting basketball games while visiting my family in Nebraska. My granddaughter performed as a cheerleader, and the folder that listed the names and pictures of the players and cheerleaders was also the top 10 reasons to sport a winning attitude. I was impressed, and since many of the readers of this Warm Thoughts column attend the sports activities, I thought I would like to share these 10 reasons.10. Because taunting, trash talk, and intimidating behavior have no place in high school sports or any other level of sports. 9. Your admission allows you to watch these performances of highly impressionable 15 to 18 year old kids. Not a license to abuse coaches, officials, players, and other spectators. 8. You want others to treat you the way you want to be treated. And how many of us want to be treated with disrespect. 7. We need positive role models. 6. People don't always remember the final score, but they do remember the fans in section 3 who made fools of themselves. 5. Because coaches and officials who are also teachers in what they do. Why would you harass them in their classrooms? 4. A national survey indicates kids play high school sports to have fun. 3. It's how you play the game that counts. 2. It's simply the right thing to do. 1. Because sportsmanship begins with you.
