An official podcast of the AUDL hosted by David Smale gives fans and curious listeners a peek behind the sport at the people that make up the rapidly growing professional Ultimate Disc league.
Alexis Abelove grew up playing sports, but she came to the AUDL with no Ultimate experience. That gives her a unique perspective on how to reach the uninitiated in the Chicago-land area with the exciting sport that's taking off all over the country. As the director of marketing for the Union, she's tasked with making a dent in the vast media landscape in the third largest city in America—and she's doing a bang-up job.
Dr. Christina Chung is a well-rounded leader in the world of AUDL. The Chief Medical Officer for the league, she also is the principal owner for the Philadelphia franchise. She's a practicing dermatologist, and she has her hands all over the league. She's involved in the youth programs, spreading the word about Ultimate to young people, many of whom are from multiple cultures as is she. She was a Spanish major at prestigious Amherst College, preparing herself to serve people from all walks of life.
Michael Kiyoi has an impressive heritage, in which his standout Ultimate career is just a part. A man immersed in music, he's also part of the AII (AUDL Inclusion Initiative), which focuses on increasing diversity in the league. A Japanese-American, whose family members were confined to the internment camps during World War II, Michael hopes his own story will inspire others from a variety of ethnicities to pursue their dreams.
Miranda Knowles may be carrying the banner for female coaches, but she prefers to talk about her athletes, ultimate frisbee strategy and legitimizing the sport. The former college basketball player is one of the first female coaches in the men's professional AUDL. Coaching in her hometown of Atlanta while teaching Biology and coaching her high school alma mater's girls team, she wants to leave a legacy normalizing all genders coaching all genders. But she also wants to win.
Our debut episode of AUDL Inside Out features AUDL's chairman, Rob Lloyd. Lloyd came to AUDL as a very successful business leader in groundbreaking industries. In his years as the head of one of the fastest growing professional sports leagues, he has taken the American Ultimate Disc League from a struggling business model to a rapidly growing league with 25 healthy franchises. You'll be inspired to pursue your own far-fetched dreams after listening to his story.
