Sunday, March 24 - Palm Sunday The Ultimate Leader, Colossians 2:9-12; John 12:12-16 Palm Sunday is about who's in charge. It really was Jesus exerting his authority in apparent weakness. The brute force of the Romans and the political intrigue of the Jewish authorities would only set the stage for us to figure out who really is our Lord and what happens when we submit to him. He alone has the authority to give us the freedom we need. #livinglarge #Jesus#churchonline WELCOME PAD / MY RESPONSE -- Use this link to respond to the sermon, request prayer, or to give tithe/offerings online: https://northridgefellowship.churchce... Every day, we strive to be the best leaders we can be. Leadership is foundational for success in any setting, from business and ministry to personal life. However, being a leader in today's world poses numerous challenges, as we frequently lose sight of what authentic leadership entails. In this episode, Tim reminds us of what makes good leadership. When we make mistakes or falter as a leader, we must always fall back on the importance of our relationship with God. By reflecting on what God wants us to do, we can see the path toward effective leadership more clearly than before. Listen to the episode to learn how good leadership is linked to stewardship and seeking God's heart. 3 Reasons to Listen:Find out how Tim and several other listeners define leadership so that you can draw yours. Learn how good leadership is inextricably linked to our relationship with God. Understand modern challenges affecting effective leadership and how to overcome them. Resourceshttps://theschoolofchrist.org/spiritual-leadership-who-needs-it (Spiritual Leadership: Who Needs It?) by Chip Brogden https://www.bible.com/bible/114/1SA.8.4-22.NKJV (1 Samuel 8: 4-22) from the Holy Bible https://seekgocreate.com/the-ultimate-leader-is-a-steward-leader-season-3-episode-9/ (Why the Ultimate Leader is a Steward Leader) from Season 3 of Seek, Go, Create Episode Highlights[02:24] The Issue with Today's LeadersThis episode's topic was ignited by Tim's disappointment over leaders who no longer lead and represent Christ. Many people have lost faith in leaders and no longer believe what they see or hear in politics. He calls both political parties' leaders hypocritical because they advocate for one thing while doing something else, shattering our trust. [04:12] Leadership and FaithChip Brogden's article was about his struggles with organized religion. Chip's relationship with God was formed through being led by the Lord rather than through churches and religion. It is challenging to have a genuine relationship with God in modern times because of spiritual leadership's authoritative and dictatorial nature. [06:24] Leaders from the Old TestamentTim reflects on the ineffective leadership depicted in the Book of Judges. It is an example of people disconnecting from their faith and reconnecting with God because of a highly flawed judge, then repeating the cycle after a few years. This cycle reflects modern times and how we need a push to rekindle our spiritual relationship with God, even though we should have one regardless of circumstance. [08:37] The Prophet Samuel and LeadershipTim uses scripture to define good leadership. The people of Israel begged the prophet Samuel to give them a leader in the Book of Samuel, but it was not God's perfect will. For wisdom and guidance, Christ's followers must go directly to God. However, our desire to go to people who act as intermediaries between God and us causes failure and the challenges we face in our faith. [08:45] "I believe that often what we're doing with leadership is we're trying to do something like the nation of Israel was doing in the book of Samuel. We're begging for something that is not the perfect will of God. It's God's permissive will." - https://ctt.ec/CF_cY (Click Here to Tweet This)[11:21] The Ultimate LeaderTim shared his thoughts on leadership from a Bible school setting in a previous podcast episode and how this example deviated from Christlikeness, which grieved him. People are torn between creating an organization that appears to care for everyone involved and genuinely showing Christ-like love to others. We can avoid turning our leaders into idols by being cautious of them. Expecting more from our leaders creates problems in various systems, including political and religious ones. [12:59] "First of all, I want to put the responsibility on us, as people that attempt to have leaders that we expect more out of than we should. (…) We really make...

The book of Revelation scares some of us, and it's a source of confusion and debate for others. But if we block out all the noise and read it for ourselves, we see it is nothing more or less than a beautiful description of our Jesus. It is an unveiling of the Greatest Man Who Ever Lived. He created the world we live in, He knew us long before we were born, and He is preparing an indescribable world for us to go to one day. Revelation 19:16 says, “On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” We celebrate life this week in our series, “He Lives,” and when we let the words of this ancient book soak into our senses, we learn that Jesus is active and working today, building a future Kingdom to welcome people from all languages and backgrounds. In the time that Jesus walked the earth, Jewish religious men wore robes with knotted fringe, reminding the wearer of God's commandments. They are deeply personal for the wearer. In the case of Jesus Himself, the garments He will wear for eternity set Him apart as our Ultimate Leader, the One who has loved us all along. His name is unique in all of history. And he loves you with an everlasting love! Let's pray. Lord, our world is sometimes chaotic, but in Jesus we have serenity and peace. Thank you for sending Him to our world. We love you! Amen.

In today's episode, we cover our inner voices and chatter with Dr. Ethan Kross. Ethan is an American experimental psychologist, neuroscientist and writer, who specializes in emotion regulation. He is a professor of psychology and management at the University of Michigan and director of the Emotion & Self Control Laboratory there. We all have that voice in our heads that can feel out of our control sometimes, but why is it there, how can you use it to build confidence, and how does the world around you influence it in good and bad ways? What to Listen For Introduction - 0:00 Why is it a bad idea to turn inward when you encounter challenges in life, and what should you do instead? Why do we have a voice inside our heads that never stops talking? How can you use the voice in your head as a tool to strengthen your mental capability? What is the dark side of our inner voice and what can we do to manage it? How do you manage your inner voice - 10:30 What can we do to harness the power of our inner voice to help us rather than hold us back and limit our potential for success and happiness? How can the people around you be helpful or harmful when it comes to managing your inner voice? What is co-rumination and how can it hinder your ability to see situations clearly and move forward after painful experiences? Tips for nurturing healthy chatter - 40:30 Is it possible to silence the chatter in our heads? How does digital interaction with one another harm us compared to real face to face interaction? What two things should you consider when it comes to social media and your inner voice? What is good sleep hygiene and why is it important to get uninterrupted quality rest? What can you do to help people who might be struggling but refuse to ask for help? Developing a healthy relationship with your inner voice can help you build unbreakable confidence and lead effortlessly. You can start by acknowledging it and making room for it in your life, instead of trying to silence or ignore it. Observe it and pay attention to when you're giving it too much control over what you're thinking about or feeling. As you do that, be open-minded about the world around you—engaging new people, experiences, and ideas will help broaden your horizons, push your confidence higher, and keep your inner voice in check. The success of his book, The One Minute Manager, was his "aha Jesus" moment. When this 112 page simplified manual in story form was published in 1982 it shared the profound management skills adopted by a generation of business leaders. It was an instant best seller and sold over 15 million copies and launched a career that has helped millions of people around the world and was the pre-cursor to more than 60 other business books that he has authored or co-authored over the past 4 decades, including "Lead Like Jesus" His story is fascinating and you'll hear him explain it in this episode of Amazing Greats.

A leadership vantage point applied to the story of Abraham arguing/disagreeing with God on what to do with the people of Sodom and the surrounding area. Learning about how God opens the space for Abraham to argue and learning about how Abraham steps into that space and leads up. Generally, we think of leadership only as it funnels down the chain of command and that is understandable. However, it is vital for teams, companies, countries, and even for families that there is also leading up the chain. This is crucial for overall success and accomplishment but more importantly for creating a good culture and growth for everyone involved. We learn it this week from God, the Ultimate Leader, and Abraham, the first leader of the faith. Enjoy!
Linda Hassapis is the owner of Magical Beginnings daycares and learning centers, with six locations around the Boston area. Linda shares her beginnings in the industry from opening up a childcare facility in her home to now growing Magical Beginnings with a full staff and bustling capacity. Linda talks about the importance of teamwork, how her culture got even stronger throughout the pandemic, and ways they have communicated with their families to make sure there is nothing but trust and confidence in sending their children to school. Key Takeaways: [7:12] Magical Beginnings has six locations, which keeps Linda very busy. The capacity is up to about 65% even during the pandemic, with 500 children and more expected in the fall. [8:43] Linda has been in the industry since 1990 and opened up a family childcare in her home before she had her two children. [11:02] It’s definitely a family affair at Magical Beginnings — Linda’s daughter has dreams to help run the company and has been working there since she was 16. [12:19] Fun Fact: Linda is a huge Bon Jovi fan, and will always catch him when he comes to town. [14:58] During the pandemic, Linda kept four locations open, which was really great for the staff and families. Despite needing to use all PPE gear, they still encouraged play and joy through music and connection. [15:06] Linda kept the company culture high by checking in with staff and making sure they were personally each okay. They also used the Emergency Care funding to service the teachers and children, so there was no extra cost at a time when the families needed it most. [22:18] Magical Beginnings did a Zoom call with parents about how things would look when they opened up the schools, and that way parents felt more in the know and secure about what to expect. [24:11] Linda joined an advocacy group called Daycare United, where she felt supported by other leaders with a similar passion to make sure teachers get the respect they need. [27:00] The pandemic has shifted Linda’s mindset to be okay with uncertainty and she and her team have adapted amazingly to the current realities of the necessary safety precautions. [34:39] If Linda could go back and do it again, she would take more business classes and get more experience with negotiation. For those who have watched Meet Joe Black, Russ Harrison reminds me of Anthony Hopkins’ character, William Parrish — a man who has led an exemplary life of courage, honor, integrity, success and caring. He IS the Evolved Caveman. From the first time I met him, when I was struck by his gentle nature and intelligence, I wanted to know more about him. After graduating from USC, Russ left behind his wife and 5-week-old son to become a Platoon Leader in Vietnam as an Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. His experiences in Vietnam, where he was shot twice and led a platoon of tanks, would forever shape his future. After Vietnam, Russ worked for Ross Perot’s EDS, was the youngest ever VP at Bank of America, was founding President of American Airlines’ Information Technology subsidiary, and has served as CEO of companies in the IT and medical device technologies fields. He has taught leadership development to Generals, Top Gun pilots and in Admirals. Now he serves on boards and presents to CEOs on the concept of quiet confidence. In this interview, we talk about topics such as… • The life-changing lessons Russ learned in the Marines • How Russ went from being in the middle of the Man Box Culture to evolving past it. • Where Russ found his quiet confidence and where you can find yours. • What Russ taught Generals and Admirals about leadership development. • What lessons Russ learned over his 40 years of running companies about how to lead people. • Russ' definition of success and happiness.
