https://teachhoops.com/ In an era of constant feedback, specialized trainers, and relentless sideline instruction, we have to ask a difficult question: Is more actually better? In this episode, we tackle the epidemic of "over-coaching" and the tendency for coaches to "joystick" their players from the sideline. We discuss the difference between teaching foundational concepts and micromanaging every dribble, pass, and cut, exploring how excessive instruction can lead to "paralysis by analysis" where athletes are too afraid of making a mistake to actually compete. We dive deep into the long-term effects of removing decision-making from the players. When a coach solves every problem during practice or calls out every read during a game, players never develop the crucial basketball IQ needed to adjust on the fly. We examine the benefits of the "constraints-led approach" and the importance of messy, chaotic practices where the game itself becomes the teacher. We challenge the traditional model of blocked drills in favor of small-sided games that force players to think for themselves. Finally, we offer practical strategies for "coaching less" to get more out of your team. This includes the uncomfortable art of staying silent during a scrimmage, asking questions like "What did you see?" instead of immediately providing the answer, and empowering your point guards to take ownership of the offense. It is about shifting your mindset from being the puppet master to being a facilitator who builds autonomous, high-IQ players capable of winning when they can't hear your voice over the crowd. You've done the work. You've built the career, gone to therapy, read the books. So why does love still feel like the one area where your brilliance doesn't translate?Annie Lalla is a relationship cartographer with an Honors Science Degree in Biology and Philosophy, a minor in Buddhism, and professional certifications in Coaching, NLP, and Clinical Hypnotherapy. Her work weaves evolutionary psychology, integral theory, intergenerational family systems, and therapeutic sexuality into a framework that actually works. She helps singles done with dating find their person—and couples in love resolve the conflicts that keep them stuck. Her mission: help you build a relationship that's a trampoline for your dreams and a sanctuary for your heart. In this episode, you'll discover:→ Why women are actually the visionary leaders of relationships—and what happens when they wait to be rescued instead→ The reason your partner triggers you so intensely (hint: you've time-traveled back to childhood)→ How to know if overwhelming emotions are actually yours—or inherited pain you've been carrying for someone else→ The simple practice that releases feelings that aren't yours back to their rightful owner→ Why conflict is actually a collaboration trying to happen—and how to use it to strengthen your bond→ The "WTF to MLK" method that transforms criticism into an invitation your partner can't refuse→ What your partner is really doing when they challenge you (think Michelangelo carving David)→ The one question that reveals whether a relationship is worth the growth it demandsHere's the truth: The love you're looking for exists. But it won't come from rescue. It won't come from finding someone who finally "gets it" so you don't have to feel your feelings anymore. True love is the emotional CrossFit of human existence—and it's rare because most people are chasing happily ever after instead of alive ever after. The fantasy says love should be easy. The truth says love is the highest game you can play as a human being. You have everything you need to lead. When you're replaying a breakup, imagining a different version of yourself your partner might have loved more, or worrying that someone is “settling,” the problem isn't the relationship, it's the way your brain is using other people's opinions to try to regulate your self-worth. In this Coaching Hotline episode, I answer two listener questions about rejection and attraction that illustrate how quickly your mind will outsource your value to someone else's thoughts. I break down why your brain becomes so invested in mental rehearsals, fantasies, and what-ifs, and how those patterns keep you from seeing your actual emotional life clearly. In this episode, Des and Kara welcome a special guest - their editor and show-notes writer - Chris McClung. That's me! For those that don't know, I am also a running coach, and my business, Rogue Running, coaches athletes to help them achieve their running goals (both in-person and virtually). We just published a book called Running the Rogue Way where we teach you the how and why behind our coaching methods. Des and Kara were nice enough to have me on to talk about it. Links below if you want to check it out, but you get some teaser-tips in the conversation. The main message is that the book is for anyone who puts one foot in front of the other and wants to get faster - no certain speed or pace needed to start. But first(!)... we cover recent news and events including Kara and Des's experiences at Brooks XC Nationals, where runner-parents get some parent-coaching tips. We talk about Athing Mu's departure from Coach Kersee and how that certain news outlet reported it. And, we discuss the bankruptcy filing from Grand Slam Track with some insider intel on what it means for athletes and their recent partial payments. Finally, we finish with a Lagoon Sleep Top 5 to finish it off. Thanks so much to Des and Kara for inviting me on the show! To get your copy of Running the Rogue Way: a. GLP-1 medications, TRT, and peptides are becoming common—but they don't change the rules of strength training. Learn how GLP-1s and strength training work together to preserve muscle, manage recovery, and train intelligently for long-term health. In this episode of Beast Over Burden, hosts Niki Sims and Andrew Jackson unpack how GLP-1 medications, TRT, and peptides are changing the coaching landscape—and what that means for strength training. If you're dragging yourself toward the end of the year feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and mentally drained, you're not alone. This is one of the toughest stretches for founders — you're still running the business while everyone else is winding down, and the pressure can quietly compound into burnout. In this episode, I share the exact reset strategies I use whenever I feel my energy dipping or my mindset slipping. These are the practical things that help me slow down, recalibrate, and get back to operating from clarity instead of exhaustion — especially during the chaotic final months of the year. Here's what you'll take away: • How to recognise the early signs of founder burnout before they hit hard • The practical reset routine I use: float tanks, steps, saunas, journaling, grounding, and more • Why taking weekends off, booking holidays, and creating downtime actually improves your performance • How to say no more often without guilt (and why doing less is often the answer) • Why founders can't build great things when they're running on fumes — and how to avoid it If you're tired, discouraged, or feeling the weight of the year, this episode will help you reset your mind, rebuild your energy, and enter the new year from a grounded, healthy place — not burnout. This is a brand new solo series I'm testing, and I'd love your feedback. Email me directly at nathan@foundr.com — I read every reply. Hope you enjoy it. That voice inside your head—the one that tells you you're not good enough, that you need to be perfect, that you're a failure if you rest—she's keeping you stuck. And it's time to silence her. In this episode, we're diving deep into the seven inner critics that are holding you hostage in quasi-recovery. These voices? They're the reason you can't move forward. They're the reason you feel trapped in the exhausting cycle of trying and failing, restricting and controlling, never feeling like you're doing it right. But here's the truth: 80% of your thoughts are negative, and 95% of them are repetitive. No wonder you feel stuck. No wonder you lack motivation. No wonder you believe the lies that you'll always be this way. The good news? You can change your thoughts. And when you change your thoughts, you change your entire life. In this episode, you'll discover: What your inner critic is and how it developed in early childhood The 7 types of inner critics: Perfectionist, Inner Controller, Taskmaster, Destroyer, Underminer, Molder/People Pleaser, and Guilt Tripper Which inner critic is running the show in YOUR mind (and how to identify it) Why your inner critic isn't wrong—it's just a part of you that needs more love How to reframe your negative thoughts and shift your perspective A powerful reflection exercise to help you silence your mean girl once and for all If you're tired of feeling controlled by that voice in your head, if you're ready to stop believing the lies, and if you're done staying stuck in quasi-recovery—this episode is for you. Description: Most coaches genuinely want to help—but good intentions don't override impact. In this Master Coach Series episode celebrating 200+ podcast episodes, Jess breaks down the seven coaching mistakes even well-trained coaches are unintentionally making that keep clients stuck. These mistakes show up across every niche—from life coaching to business coaching. Inside this episode, you'll learn how to coach at a higher, more effective, more ethical level by avoiding the patterns that derail client progress. You'll learn: Why cheerleading actually prevents transformation How "Curious George" questioning sabotages momentum The difference between coaching the symptom vs. the system How safety strategies drive self-sabotage The leadership skills every professional coach must master Why you can't coach a dysregulated nervous system The subtle (and uncomfortable) ways coaches become coach-centered instead of client-centered When you eliminate these blind spots, your coaching becomes sharper, cleaner, and dramatically more impactful—and your clients start getting the results they hired you for. What if love—not control—was the driving force behind your leadership? In this thought-provoking conversation, Trevor Timbeck invites you to explore leadership through the lens of “loving as a verb.” Co-author of The Power of Love with Steve Chandler, Trevor explains how viewing love as an action, rather than a static feeling, can transform the way you lead, parent, and connect with others. He shares how a simple question—“What would love do?”—can shift your mindset in moments of frustration, helping you respond with awareness and compassion instead of reaction or control. You'll hear Trevor and Meredith discuss what he calls “emotioning,” a way of understanding emotion as a domain of action rather than a feeling to be managed. Through personal stories of parenting and coaching leaders, Trevor reveals how genuine leadership emerges from acceptance and presence, not authority or demand. His insights challenge conventional thinking about power, control, and influence, offering a refreshing and deeply human perspective on what it means to lead with love. You'll discover: Why love is a powerful verb—not just a feelingHow to shift from controlling to allowing in leadershipWhat “emotioning” means and how it shapes your actionsHow asking “What would love do?” can change any situationWhy true leadership begins with awareness and acceptanceCheck out all the episodesLeave a review on Apple PodcastsConnect with Meredith on LinkedInFollow Meredith on TwitterDownload the free ebook Listen Like a Pro
