Andrew preaches on the given text, concluding the paragraph introduced in earlier weeks starting in 2:4. Peter draws attention to a final episode in redemptive history: Lot's preservation from Sodom. He then concludes, having described several Old Testament stories, that God is able to both pour out His wrath on evildoers and to preserve people from that wrath. This is supposed to be the basis of his audience's hope in the midst of affliction from false teachers. And it is our hope today that God is sovereign and able to deliver us from affliction.
Ryan preaches on fatherhood as it is found throughout the Bible.
Ryan tackles the first historical episodes cited by Peter. They serve as the antecedent in his conditional argument (concluded in v. 10) that God both pours out wrath and also preserves His people from it.
Ryan preaches on the given text. This week continues the teaching from verse 1, in which false teachers are identified as an immanent threat to the church’s witness. Peter goes on to say that they can be discerned from their doctrine, deeds, and destructive lack of self-control. Peter assures the church that they will get their fill at the day of judgment, which they deny (3:1ff).Peter’s warning is as legitimate today as in the first century. | https://ecclesianewnan.com
Ryan preaches on the given text. In it, Peter tells us that we must discern false teachers humbly in order to preserve our faith. He distinguishes them by the difference in their message from the true message of the apostles, whom God has used to speak on His behalf. He assures is not only that they exist, but also that God will judge them in the Last Day for leading people astray.
Ryan preaches on the given text. The people of God possess the Bible, which is—by virtue of what it is—authoritative over every area of life. That the Bible is the inspired Word of God means that God himself is the one supplies it with meaning and truth, not anyone or anything else. So we should read it, meditate on it, and use it to order our lives so that we can be found faithful. | https://ecclesianewnan.com
