Today on Foundations For Opportunity, Toronto's very own David Amber join us in studio. He is one of the hosts of Hockey Night in Canada and a black man in the sports media industry covering a predominantly white sport. Growing up as the son of broadcasting legend Arnold Amber, from his time at McGill and Syracuse to working for a number of different networks, David shares his experiences and details his journey on how he got to where he is today.

This episode on Foundations for Opportunity, Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach, Rex Kalamian called in to discuss the barriers he overcame as the only Armenian in the NBA, coming from a single parent household and his passion for player development. His career has come full circle as he returned to the Clippers organization in 2018, where he began in 1994 as a scout. Being back home with his family and reflecting on his Armenian heritage, Coach Kalamian talks about his core values on what’s allowed him to become a successful assistant coach.

She is a first-generation Canadian, and back in February 2018 Kayla became the first woman of colour to host a sports flagship show on a major network in Canada. We got the chance to speak in-depth with retired Canadian NHL player, Theo Fleury. Fleury is a decorated athlete with an abundance of accomplishments, including a gold medal with Team Canada in 2002, and a Stanley Cup in 1987. On one hand, our guest was exciting to watch in the league -- recording four 90+ point seasons and two 100+ point seasons. On the other, he was battling something much bigger than those games. He was battling drug and alcohol addictions which forced him out of the league. He now provides survivors of traumatic life events with the treatment and support needed to reclaim their lives. Join us as Fleury details his journey through stories of him surrendering to his addictions, the importance of helping others and helping yourself, and the stigma around mental health to where he is today.
