Ashley Jones competed for six years in Division I distance running with one arm—and she insists that was never the point. If all running taught her was how to go faster in a race, she missed everything.Fresh off a trip marking ten years since the ATV accident that took her right arm at 14 (three months after losing her father), Ashley joins Dominic to discuss her farewell to college running. Across three programs in six years–from High Point's humble grind; to Tennessee's private jets; to a homecoming at Colorado–-she lived what she calls three different lives. She walks us through each chapter: the mistakes and identity-building at High Point; the leap of faith and breakout performances at Tennessee; and a final injury-riddled Colorado season she nearly walked away from over the winter before deciding to finish the race.Along the way she gets candid about the parts of her story most people never ask about: why she has never covered her arm or worn a prosthetic; what it costs to share the most vulnerable thing about yourself with strangers; why she stopped training on Sundays in one of the most competitive environments in sport; and why victim mentality, in her words, robs people of life and opportunity. She challenges an NCAA team culture fading toward semi-pro. She tells rising freshmen to build community fast and advocate for themselves. And she hints at what comes next: writing, speaking, an email list, and saying yes to crazy adventures—because running was the vessel, never the destination.Tap into the Ashley Jones Special. If you enjoy the podcast, please consider following us on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and giving us a five-star review! Send us Fan MailIt's Monday night and Tuffy Talk Live opens with breaking news before the show even hits its second segment, Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby and the university mutually part ways, ending the gambling injunction saga that had college football holding its breath for two weeks. Layton, Greg, and Ethan react in real time. Greg calls the NCAA "punked." Ethan says it feels like a PR move driven by Big 12 pressure. Layton ties it directly to the Will Wade situation, because if you want to talk about ethics in college athletics, you can't do it without talking about both. Then the Will Wade investigation. NC State is not letting this go quietly. The timeline is damning, LSU's season ended March 11, Wade resigned March 25, he was introduced at LSU March 26, and the buyout was set to drop from $5 million to $3 million on April 1. NC State Vice Chancellor Allison Newhart wrote that the school has reason to suspect LSU influenced efforts to avoid or delay notice of Wade's recruitment to save money on the buyout. LSU responded by asking NC State to sign a legal waiver. NC State refused. Wade's response to all of it? "They're pretty mad for a coach they didn't think was very good." Ethan calls it a Captain Obvious situation. Greg says you hold people accountable. And the conversation turns to the real question, does NC State have a case, and what are they actually going after? Then the new Report Card segment debuts, and Layton, Greg, and Ethan grade every one of Chris Hart's moves in his first two weeks as head coach. First up is a name we hadn't heard before, Mississippi State catcher Andrew Raymond, who chose NC State over multiple SEC schools specifically because of the program's catcher development history. All-Rookie A-10 as a freshman at George Mason before transferring to Mississippi State. Greg and Ethan both land at B-plus. Then Hunter Warren gets an A, Ethan makes the case that Warren has been better than Luke Nixon in Year 1 and Year 2 comparisons. Chet Lax gets a B-minus from Ethan, not a reflection on Lax himself but on where he slots in a rotation that still needs more arms. Jesse Gutierrez gets a B, Greg hears from a former San Jose State teammate that Gutierrez sits 89 to 91 as a starter and bumps to 92-93 out of the bullpen. McCall Biemiller gets a C from Ethan and an incomplete from Greg — 13 career innings is simply not enough data. Taylor Black as recruiting coordinator gets an A-minus from both, Ethan notes he stepped into exactly the job Hart vacated, the Florida pipeline stays open, and Bo Robinson and JT Jarrett keep their roles without having to be promoted past where they belong. Then NC State basketball, JUCO center Shah Hall official visit breakdown, the Auburn frontcourt target situation, and whether state even needs Hall if the roster fills out elsewhere. Jacob Burns and Amir Moore football commits, Greg says he can't get excited about three-star recruits even though he respects what they represent. Ethan ties it back to the bigger picture, you find your star players through the high school ranks and use the portal for depth, not the other way around. And the ACC power rankings debate, On3's Andy Staples has NC State 10th. Greg says 7 or 8. Ethan says Virginia is the most overrated team on the list and breaks down exactly why their nine-win season last year was smoke and mirrors. Plus shoutouts to Ty Head as a Gold Glove finalist and Rett Johnson earning Perfect Game second-team freshman All-American honors.Tuffy Talk is NC State's home for sports talk, hot takes, and everything Wolfpack. New episodes every Monday at 8:30 PM ET on YouTube. Join the Patreon at patreon.com/cw/ncstatestats for exclusive weekly NC State breakdowns from Ethan — $5/month.

Did Michigan's Cheating Scandal Enable Texas Tech's Gambling Defiance? | Buckeye Weekly PodcastOn the Buckeye Weekly Podcast, Tony Gerdeman and Tom Orr discuss a listener question arguing that the NCAA's handling of Michigan's Connor Stalions cheating scandal emboldened Texas Tech's defiant response to quarterback Brennan Sorsby's gambling-related rules violation. They compare the schools' approaches, noting Michigan threatened legal action but never went to court, while Texas Tech obtained a Texas judge's injunction blocking the NCAA's suspension attempt and released a 22-minute video defending its position. They argue the NCAA has punished or tried to punish wrongdoing (including fines and individual penalties), but courts and conferences like the Big 12 may shape outcomes, and they explore how conference or College Football Playoff decisions could affect Texas Tech if the situation continues.00:00 Welcome and Setup00:45 Listener Question01:25 Michigan vs Texas Tech02:37 NCAA Teeth and Courts04:00 Shameless PR Defense08:18 Mental Health vs Eligibility09:34 Judge Ruling and Big 1212:05 CFP Fallout Scenarios14:07 Wrap Up and Callouts

The path to a senior world title is entirely black and white. There is no grey area on an elevated mat inside the Prudential Center—only a best-of-three series that ends with one athlete holding a plane ticket to the World Championships and another left behind in the wrestling room. For decades, the senior level was defined by a specific geography: farm boys from the grain elevators of the Midwest or private school hammers out of New England. On June 19, the sport shifts its entire weight to the concrete of the Tri-State area as Final X pairs elite freestyle with the infrastructure of the country's largest grassroots wrestling network.NOTE: This was recorded prior to the annoucement that world medalists Real Woods and Kyle Welker have delayed their Final X series matches. Host Jason Bryant sits down with Beat the Streets New York Executive Director Bob Seidel to dissect the structural evolution of an organization that has grown 300% over the last four years. These are not suburban athletes with parents chauffeuring them to private clubs; these are fiercely independent kids taking two-hour subway rides from the outer edges of Queens and Brooklyn just to get a hand-fight in the middle of Manhattan. Seidel details the extreme logistics of maintaining a permanent training center on the most expensive real estate in the country, and why the daily grind of mass transit translates directly into individual accountability on the mat. The conversation pivots to the relentless competitive stakes of the Newark card. The lightweight matchups represent a complete collision of eras and philosophies, headlined by the re-ignited rivalry at 57 kg between Olympic silver medalist Spencer Lee and reigning NCAA champion Luke Lilledahl—fresh off Lilledahl's shocking last-second headlock victory at the U.S. Open. From the hyper-aggressive offense of youth phenoms Bo Bassett and Jax Forrest to the structural control of multi-time world champions Helen Maroulis and Kyle Dake, this card is an absolute grinder. With Columbia University officially establishing the first Ivy League Division I women's program right in their backyard, this event marks the exact moment where the pipeline from the streets of New York to the global stage becomes undeniable. In 2024, Coleman Scott seemed primed to become the next coach at Oklahoma State. He was about to be inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame after a stellar career as a four-time All-American, an NCAA champion, and an Olympic bronze medalist. Then things took a quick turn. Instead of being the heir to John Smith's program in Stillwater, uncertainty was present.A quick reset and a chance to change things up, Coleman and his wife Jessica bought some land and build a wrestling room - and basically a dorm and a kitchen. Now, hundreds of kids pass through the doors at The Farm Wrestling Camps just outside of Stillwater, Oklahoma and the Scotts are thriving. What's new and what's to come?Want an ad-free version of the show AND the best in wrestling news from around the world?
