Ensure You Have Exchange Online and OneDrive for Better Teams Experiences

During a recent onsite I met with a customer who was very excited about the prospect of leveraging Teams to improve their collaboration capabilities. The idea of providing a single pane of glass for their users where they could seamlessly chat, hold meetings, share documents, and more was a clear winner in their estimation. The issues that arose however were that they still had their email on premise and had not deployed OneDrive. In both cases they did plan to eventually roll out those services to their employees but that was a longer-term vision. In this edition of Michael on the Go I discuss how Teams leverages other Microsoft best of breed services to deliver an optimal single pane of glass for employee productivity. As a part of that discussion I also discuss how not having certain pieces in place may not preclude Teams use but may influence user experience and solution capabilities.

Move Teams Up (the deployment line that is)

The other day I participated in an all-day session with a customer who wanted to validate their #Office365 migration plans and initial pilot plans. They had done a great job thinking through the various services and what to roll out when and were looking to deliver maximum value to their users. The only thing that caught my attention was the situating of Teams at the tail end of the rollout in pilot. In this edition of Michael on the Go I discuss leveraging Teams early in a pilot rollout, in a controlled fashion. The use of Teams by the IT organization to facilitate their rollout collaboration and planning provides the ideal real-world experience for IT to get their feet wet and to have a better appreciation for the capabilities of Teams and how to best manage and promote within the organization. Preservation Lock and Data Retention Policies

Recently when onsite with clients the subject of data retention for legal/compliance reasons has been a frequent topic of conversation. IT Administrators are looking for ways to improve upon their data retention procedures to provide them with a more robust, bulletproof, solutions beyond traditional legal hold. In this edition of Michael on the Go I discuss the use of Office 365 Data Retention Policies and the addition of a Preservation Lock that can ensure that not even Office 365 Tenant Admins can override the set policy. This is vital in light of compliance regulations such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Rule 17a-4, which requires that after a preservation policy is turned on, it cannot be turned off or made less restrictive. During a client onsite earlier this week the topic of compliance, especially in the Healthcare/Life Sciences arena, popped in relation to chat. The customer really liked the unified “single pane of glass” to get work done in Microsoft Teams but they were concerned about how they could ensure that their compliance policies around auditing, retention, etc. were adhered to. In this edition of Michael on the Go I discuss how Microsoft Teams chat adheres to, and leverages, your existing Office 365 compliance setup. Custom Corporate Web App Reduction with Delve Profiles

The other day while onsite with a client in Raleigh NC there was one of those “aha!” moments that I love to see light up with executives when covering Enterprise Digital Transformation with Office 365. This particular “aha!” was precipitated by my coverage of Office 365 Delve and the capability it delivers. As with many organizations Delve was not something IT had pursued yet with vigorous promotion as they were engaged with other projects. However, while I was demonstrating Delve the executive in attendance accessed their corporate Delve instance (of which he was entirely unaware of prior to the session) and instantly found value in finding contact information for an employee he had been unable to find in their corporate directory app the week prior. At this point he become excited as he articulated how the Delve profile was so much richer, and easier to find the information they needed. Additionally, he said it fit in perfectly with a corporate mandate they had to reduce custom appli
