Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, it was founded by Peter Thiel,[4] Stephen Cohen, Joe Lonsdale,[5] and Alex Karp in 2003. The company has four main projects: Palantir Gotham, Palantir Foundry, Palantir Apollo, and Palantir AIP. Palantir Gotham is an intelligence and defense tool used by militaries and counter-terrorism analysts. Its customers included the United States Intelligence Community (USIC) and United States Department of Defense.[6] Their software as a service (SaaS) is one of five offerings authorized for Mission Critical National Security Systems (IL5[7]) by the U.S. Department of Defense.[8][9] Palantir Foundry is used for data integration and analysis by corporate clients such as Morgan Stanley, Merck KGaA, Airbus, Wejo, Lilium, PG&E and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.[10] Palantir Apollo is a platform to facilitate continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) across all environments.[11][12] Palantir's original clients were federal agencies of the USIC. It has since expanded its customer base to serve both international as well as state and local governments, and also to private companies.[13] Palantir software connects data, analytics, and operations to help organizations make decisions and improve efficiency. Palantir's software is used by government agencies and commercial enterprises. How Palantir works 1. Connects data: Palantir connects to data systems, data lakes, and platforms. 2. Analyzes data: Palantir analyzes data to find trends, relationships, and anomalies. 3. Visualizes data: Palantir visualizes data to help users understand insights. 4. Automates processes: Palantir automates processes to help users save time and improve efficiency. 5. Improves decision-making: Palantir helps users make better decisions by providing data-driven insights. Palantir has multiple platforms, including: · Palantir Gotham: Used by government agencies to detect patterns and derive insights from large amounts of data · Palantir Foundry: Used by commercial enterprises to integrate data, perform simulations, and optimize workflows · Palantir AIP: Used to deploy large language models and other AI within a private network Failure of 911 terrorist attacks where government organizations were not sharing information. Government has to be able to sift through large amounts of data, looking for a terrorist network, the old needle in a haystack. Software allows government to go thru data, and also share information. In the past governments could run spy networks only, now with computer hackers, it could be run by anybody with a computer. Hard to search for terrorist, very creative. In carps view, you have to think like an entrepreneur and be tactical when going after them. Cannot think in a static fashion, how did they do it in the past. When a terrorist is caught using a cell phone, they adapt to figure out how do they get caught and then use a different method. It's like game theory, you have to think ahead of the terrorist and find their patterns before they even realize they are leaving pattern. Terrorist may think in different terms that society deems as destructive, but it still may be very creative, almost like an entrepreneur. Per carp, you need creative and adaptive thinkers to go after the bad guys. Cyber war is a real threat and not going anywhere. Need the government to combat it, but also must watch what the government is doing to not trample on civil liberties. Need to be able to track the data to see how the government went about things and did its targeting. Data destruction & Tag data - Know where the data came from, so government can use it lawfully. You do not want to share data with the government, and then have the government use it against you. Because of technology and computers spying is democracized, a group of three teenagers at a coffee shop can launch a cyber attack. Systems can track down where these terrorists are, and show you the patterns of who they might be even if they can identify them directly. Government and large health insurance companies already have a lot of data. The question is, how are they using it, is it being used in a lawful way? With Palantir software, you cannot only look for the terrorist, but you can also watch how the government uses the data Can use Palantir software on top of current software to work through data Palantir and SpaceX companies – achieved $ Billion dollar valuation Unicorn status Funded at loss for years, took decade to get Govt contracts Name comes from the seeing stone in Lord of the Rings Powerful technology, that can help watch over the world, has massive, ethical implications Software helps government and businesses look over data and watch on people, but can infringe on privacy - Paradox of security vs freedom Also raises questions about privacy, verse convenience, a kin to the issue with current social media Solve terrorism problem in big way Fight terrorism on a large scale, verse just smaller tactics with airport security Fight terrorism at the high-level, verse low level tech with airport security and other measures that are very cumbersome and overbearing Coordinate resources better Hard to start in defense company, and this is the next generation Palantir is coming up with a simple high-tech solution, to handle a serious and complicated problem Pre-911, government not prepared or organized to handle global terrorist threat, and many of the solutions were over the top and heavy handed Company provides targeted efficient reactions, verse broad wide solutions There is both philosophical and technological debate on how this software can and should be used They also believe they can be more transparent, show accountability, and actually prevent government overreach Check NSA and FISA courts if used, it is not Security and CIA type orgs need secrecy Palantir could track actions of these orgs for review Large organization, bureaucracy, often have outdated technology, and reporting, so hard to do oversight, can be very confusing Often these organizations want plausible deniability, so they don't want their accounting to be reviewed, and will list expenditures under different things, this could be seen as fraud Technology is both disruptive and how it can go through data, but also disruptive that I can force accountability and bring stuff to light Creative accounting and inefficiency could come to an end. This forces people to adapt and change their ways. Human nature is not always open to this. Belief by CEO, how important it is to choose the right partner in person and business You want to work with people who will challenge your ideas, so you have the discipline and rigor to think out and give evidence behind when while your idea is right, or at the very least not wrong Scale to be plausibly right, and not wrong is very valuable in life People must be resilient enough to challenge, even their own ideas. Company, culture, fosters, and environment, where people are open to think, challenge, status quo, but also must defend their thoughts. They foster independent thought, and not just one way thinking in the company Also ambition to work on bigger national projects Future of defense contractors is in software, which they don't have a good history with. A lot of the best defense contractors make hardware. Palantir reviewed what the government was doing to fight terrorism, and how they were spending tens of billions of dollars on it. They were spending it in the wrong way, and the process needed to be rethought. Took years to get in with government. Building software for spies and intelligence industry. Has both commercial private clients and government client. A few different products that help big organizations analyze their data using AI, and make the data more understandable. This can help a company in many ways, be more efficient, cut cost, raise profits, understand their own company better AI and data are the new languages of the modern world. There's a lot of data and it is critical to keep it organized, but very hard. Their software goes beyond just storing and managing data. It helps them to utilize the data which is key. According to a Jobvite survey, employee referrals are 5X more likely to land you a role than just applying online like the rest of the universe. Here's the thing: Networking is the key. But it doesn't have to be hard, or feel terrible. What if networking was just part of your professional life, like keeping your credentials current or meeting with your boss or direct reports? AND…and this is a big AND…networking should be an ongoing part of your professional life, not just when you are job searching. After all, if only people who are job searching are networking, who are they networking with? Here are 6 strategies for incorporating networking into what you're already doing. Network where you're already going. Perhaps you are in a book club, or your kids are in school sports, or you attend regular fitness classes, or are a member of a church. Choose conversation over the quick exit. You never know when you'll be in the right place with the right person at the right time – whether it is for your benefit, theirs, or mutual. Become active in your online communities.Leverage social media to connect with people you already share an interest with – parent groups, industry- or job function-relevant groups, or people who share a hobby. Engage with content, sharing, and commenting to build a network where you already participate. Check in via email. Touch base via emails with your current contacts to keep your relationships active. As I like to say, LinkedIn shouldn't be the place where your contacts go to die. A simple, “Hi, what's new in your world?” or “Here's a resource I thought you would be interested in…” goes a long way. Utilize your organization's social platforms. Leverage your company's internal platforms like Slack, Yammer, or Intranet forums to interact with colleagues throughout the organization. Accept those invitations. From professional association webinars, a neighborhood get-together, a random lunch invitation, or Happy Hour with the gang – say yes to an invite and go with the goal of engaging in intentional conversation. Connect with connectors. I call these people “Centers of Influence” – they seem to know everyone. When you speak with them, be sure to ask them “who else do you think I should speak with?” followed by “Would you be willing to make the introduction?” How to make sure this actually happens. Here are five tips to make sure these ideas become part of your professional routine: -Schedule time. I like to think of networking as a low-level priority in my schedule. I am doing it on a regular basis, it isn't taking a ton of my time, but it's happening. To do this – it must be on my calendar. For example, set aside 15 minutes each week for email check-ins with your connections. -Set goals. For example, decide to leverage your organization's internal networking platform to reach out to 2 colleagues each week. Then reward yourself for achieving your goal – it's the cumulative effect of these small wins that make the difference. -Follow-up and follow through. As you meet people, be sure to send thank you's as appropriate – this will also serve to remind them of what they said they would do for you. When you promise to do something for someone else, be sure to get it done – it's your reputation at stake. -Equal exchange of energy. As I like to say, don't be a barnacle in the networking process – aim to give at least as much value as you get. This will feel so much better. -Regularly evaluate and make adjustments. Not all types of meetings will be fruitful for you. Some contacts you thought would be gold mines turn out not to be. Just make sure that, before you eliminate an avenue or person, you can honestly say you've done your part to make the relationship work. Are you in the wrong job that chips away at you every day? Clement Pang, cofounder of Lirvana Labs and Jeremy Au explored: 1. Google Engineer to $400M Exit Clement detailed his journey from a computer science graduate at Rice University in 2004 to starting at Google during its IPO phase and later GLMX in 2007 to build a financial trading platform as a founding engineer. In 2012, he co-founded Wayfront, an observability SaaS company that filled a gap in system monitoring. Early customers included Workday, Yammer, and Lyft, and the platform eventually scaled to serve companies like Reddit and DoorDash. Wayfront's acquisition by VMware in 2017 for $400 million provided Clement with invaluable lessons about scaling cross-functional teams and handling millions of data points per second. He emphasized minimizing dependency on external factors, a lesson learned from GLMX's reliance on interest rates, and aligning teams with a clear vision—a skill he honed while managing 2,000 engineers at VMware. 2. “Diamond Age” Education AI: Drawing inspiration from Neil Stephenson's The Diamond Age, Clement envisions AI as a tool to democratize education and approximate human tutors. In 2021, Clement co-founded Livano Labs with his sister to transform early childhood education using generative AI. Their app, Yeti Confetti Kids, launched in 2022, targets children aged 3 to 9, teaching math, English, and social-emotional skills. AI designs personalized learning experiences instead of relying on pre-set algorithms. Feedback loops enabled the AI to improve its outputs by analyzing real-world usage data. He emphasized curriculum alignment for classroom settings, where AI must adhere to structured learning goals. 3. Gen Z Future: Clement reflected on how tools like ChatGPT are changing interpersonal communication, particularly for Gen Z. He drew parallels to the introduction of calculators in education, noting how technological tools shift norms and practices. He discussed AI's role as a sounding board for personal and professional problem-solving, encouraging users to engage critically with its outputs while leveraging its strengths. They also discussed lessons from Clement's experiences managing cross-functional teams during Wayfront's rapid growth, how decreasing costs are enabling scalable applications like Yeti Confetti Kids, and the role of AI in enhancing collaboration and decision-making. === Clement Pang is a serial entrepreneur (400MM in exits) and current co-founder and co-CEO of Lirvana Labs, a startup that created an AI Learning Companion to teach children the critical literacy and reasoning skills that change lives and destinies. With over 17 years of experience in software engineering, architecture, and leadership, Clement is passionate about building purposeful products that leverage the power of AI and data to solve real-world problems and improve human well-being. === Watch, listen or read the full insight at www.bravesea.com/blog/ google-engineer-to-400M-exit Nonton, dengar atau baca wawasan lengkapnya di www.bravesea.com/blog/ google-engineer-to-400M-exit 观看、收听或阅读全文,请访问 www.bravesea.com/blog/ google-engineer-to-400M-exit Xem, nghe hoặc đọc toàn bộ thông tin chi tiết tại www.bravesea.com/blog/ google-engineer-to-400M-exit Get transcripts, startup resources & community discussions at www.bravesea.com WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VakR55X6BIElUEvkN02e TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jeremyau Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeremyauz Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeremyau LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/bravesea Spotify English: https://open.spotify.com/show/4TnqkaWpTT181lMA8xNu0T Bahasa Indonesia: https://open.spotify.com/show/2Vs8t6qPo0eFb4o6zOmiVZ Chinese: https://open.spotify.com/show/20AGbzHhzFDWyRTbHTVDJR Vietnamese: https://open.spotify.com/show/0yqd3Jj0I19NhN0h8lWrK1 YouTube English: https://www.youtube.com/@JeremyAu?sub_confirmation=1
David Sacks, a venture capitalist, former CEO of enterprise social network firm Yammer and podcaster, will join the incoming administration in a new role President-elect Donald Trump referred to in a Thursday night announcement as the “White House AI & Crypto Czar.” In a series of posts on Trump's own Truth Social platform, he said Sacks “will guide policy for the Administration in Artificial Intelligence and Cryptocurrency, two areas critical to the future of American competitiveness.” Trump said that Sacks will “focus on making America the clear global leader in both areas” while safeguarding free speech online and steering the nation away from what he referred to as Big Tech bias and censorship. Another key priority for Sack will be working on a legal framework so the crypto industry has “the clarity it has been asking for, and can thrive in the U.S. A handful of federal agencies missed deadlines to complete Internet of Things cybersecurity requirements called out in a 2020 law, a new congressional watchdog report found. The IoT Cybersecurity Improvement Act of 2020 required the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Office of Management and Budget to develop guidance for securely procuring IoT — networked technology and devices typically connected to physical objects like buildings, vehicles and other infrastructure. The law also required 23 civilian federal agencies to implement IoT cybersecurity requirements, though a waiver process was to be established by OMB. My topics come because I look for a book to buy on the subject and can't find one. I know it's supposed to be fancier than that, or that there must be some grand theory of my work, but there isn't one. That said, my readers seem to enjoy what I've written, so maybe it's fine? I am inspired by my literary heroes, including Robert Caro, Laura Hillenbrand, Candice Millard, Daniel James Brown, and Barbara Tuchman, among many others. They are all rigorous researchers—but reading their books doesn't feel like doing homework. That's what I'm going for, and hopefully I hit the mark a few times. For me, books are all-consuming projects, leaving little other time for the things that should populate this section like hobbies, interests, and even the ability to remain in basic touch with people. I enjoy obsessing over a subject for years, and my goal is to find as much information as possible and then make the material readable for a general audience. This episode is about a short story of my experience hiking a segment of the Appalachian Trail. The Yammer is a podcast aimed to encourage men to be better husbands, fathers, and leaders in their communities. Each episode provides a level of self-improvement that encourages men to explore tough and important topics in life that range from mental health to the tools needed to create a healthy life both in mind and body. In a moment when unprecedented amounts of money are flowing toward projects involving AI, Robb and Josh welcome Jake Saper for a lively exploration of the VC mindset. Since 2003, Emergence Capital has invested in companies collectively worth $450B+, including Salesforce, Box, Yammer, and Zoom. As a General Partner, Jake has embraced the transformative power of generative AI. This conversation explores many different ways these technologies are impacting investor thinking as software becomes cheaper and easier to create.
Daniel Erickson is the Founder and CEO of Viable, an AI analytics tool that enables businesses to instantly access and act on valuable insights from customer feedback, saving them hundreds of hours spent analyzing feedback. They launched in 2020, and have already raised $8.9M from high-profile investors such as Craft Ventures, whose notable exits include Tesla, Bird, and Airbnb, and Javelin Venture Partners, whose portfolio includes Mythical Games and SmartAsset—both of which have recently joined the unicorn club. As you know, many businesses collect data from a variety of sources, including help desk tickets, surveys, product reviews, internal customer notes, call transcripts, etc., and store it in various databases and formats. As a result, much of it goes unused. Viable changes this by allowing businesses to automatically aggregate, structure, and analyze all of their data, so they can understand what their customers are telling them and use this to better serve them. Daniel, an engineer by trade, co-founded Viable with his identical twin brother Jeff, who is a designer. They took a different path than most, skipping college entirely and starting a consulting firm in Portland straight out of high school to help early-stage companies build their very first products, create MVPs, get their first users, and/or get their first investment. Prior to founding Viable, Daniel was VP Engineering at Eaze. Before that he spent time as CTO at Getable and also had a front-row seat to Yammer's rapid growth during a 3-year stint as a Senior Engineer at the company.” Connect with Jon Dwoskin: Twitter: @jdwoskin Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jonathan.dwoskin Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thejondwoskinexperience/ Website: https://jondwoskin.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jondwoskin/ Email: jon@jondwoskin.com Get Jon's Book: The Think Big Movement: Grow your business big. Description:On this episode, Benn Stancil, Co-Founder of Mode Analytics and current Field CTO at Thoughtspot shares his thoughts on who wants to use data to solve problems, and who just wants data to validate an opinion. He brings unique perspectives to how data excellence can be proliferated through an organization, whether shadow IT is a nuisance or a guide post, and how large language models will influence the future of data. Key Moments:How an internal analytics tool Benn built at Yammer led to starting Mode Analytics to serve the new breed of technical data teams (4:00)Why the urgency around BI consolidation in 2023 prompted conversations with ThoughtSpot (52:30) The risks of shadow tools and lack of consistency; importance of a centralized data infrastructure (26:30)Using natural language search as an interface for asking novel questions and changing how people use data (44:00)Data teams need visibility into the business context; centralization for infrastructure but decentralization to embed in business units (23:30)How ambition plays an outsized role in the type of data tools selected in an organization (17:58)Key Quotes:Courage, ultimately, is needed in making a decision that you have to own. [Unfortunately], data can be a punt. If you make a data driven decision, nobody made the decision. The data made the decision. There is like an abstraction there of who was actually responsible for it. What ends up happening [in shadow IT] is you spend all this time just trying to figure out, like, which one do you trust? Who's right? Everybody has their different perspectiveGood Googlers are not people that know the, the exact syntax of weird Google searches. Good Googlers are the people who have some spider sense about where to go looking for things. And I think AI is probably going to be similar to that, where it's not the crazy prompt engineers that'll make it good. It's like some of the next level spider sense skills that we don't know yet.MentionsRShadow ITMicrosoft acquires YammerLarge Language Models (LLMs)ModeBioBenn Stancil is ThoughtSpot's Field CTO. In organizations, learning-oriented ‘online communities' often bring to mind empty forums and unused Yammer groups. But what does a vibrant community of practice look like? And how do you go about building one online? In this week's episode of The Mind Tools L&D Podcast, Ross D and Ross G are joined by Anamaria Dorgo, founder of L&D Shakers and Head of Community at Butter, to discuss: · the benefits of online communities of practice · how to build and maintain online communities · how to measure the impact of online communities · what all of this looks like in an organizational context You can find out more about L&D Shakers here. During the show, Anamaria referenced Etienne and Beverly Wenger-Trayner's work on communities of practice. In his trademark style, Ross G equated online communities to pornography, recalling Justice Potter Stewart's famous line - ‘I know it when I see it.' He also mentioned the ‘Success Case Method', which we discussed in a previous episode. In ‘What I Learned This Week', Ross G recommended Creativity Inc. by Ed Catmull. Anamaria encouraged listeners to check out Katherine Zhou's ethical design toolkit. And Ross D talked about pushing some eggs through a sieve after watching an episode of The Bear. "Better branded people get better jobs." - Cher Jones I first discovered the power of personal branding when I tried to move internally at the company I worked for 17.5 years. I worked in the US division for 16 years and I wanted to move to the Canadian division to make sure that my work experience was relevant in Canada. It was like I had moved to Boston for 16 years - the Canadian division kept declining me because they didn't understand my skills and abilities. Some didn't even know that the company had US division workers in Canada. I started using internal communication and collaboration tools like Yammer and became active on Linkedin. I volunteered for hackathons, innovation challenges, ERG committees. It worked. I was able to move to the Canadian division, I won an award received by less than 1% of employees and I was asked to found and lead a new ERG for parents and caregivers when the pandemic started. As part of my career pivot, I wanted to deepen my understanding of personal branding and looked to Linkedin for experts. Cher Jones was one of the people I found. She comes from a TV background and runs the most useful and interactive Linkedin live shows around. Her audience engagement is off the charts and I've met some truly generous and interesting people in her comments. In fact, I met one of my first podcast guests through Cher - Renee Lindo (check out her episode - I think it's #3). These days, Cher is one of the few people I show up live for because the quality of her content is unmatched. We did a video version of this podcast so you get the full energy of Cher. The most fun part of this episode is when I remind Cher of a time when she caught the eye of the editor-in-chief of LinkedIn, Daniel Roth. He had put out a call for creators to watch and Cher championed herself. What was truly awesome was how much of her community came out to celebrate her and endorse her. It was wonderful to see her receive the support and accolades - reciprocity is a beautiful thing. She did indeed get named a Creator to Watch which opened up opportunities - a feature in a LinkedIn marketing piece and 3 LinkedIn Learning courses. It was huge validation of her work and confirmed for her audience and clients that her approach to personal branding works really well. Cher was able to give us the links to the 3 posts that make up this story. It's like a mini case study of your brand at work. Got through each post and read the comments. The honour and respect has in the industry is on full display. The people commenting are some of the top experts in the world - great people to follow as well. It takes a lot of effort to build a positive - and empowering - workplace culture, especially in today's world of digital offices and remote work. But what happens when things start to go wrong? How can leaders tell when their culture is faltering, and what steps can they take to get back on track? Today we sit down with prolific tech leader and workplace culture expert Anna Marie Clifton. She discusses her work with companies like Asana, Coinbase, Yammer, and Vowel, and her unique approach to workplace culture "makeovers," which can help organizations identify problems, shift workforce perspectives, and transform even the most toxic environments in as little as six weeks. Find Anna Marie on Twitter @TweetAnnaMarie, and learn more about Vowel here: https://www.vowel.com/ **In a post-pandemic world, workers want to retain their flexibility and have the best of both worlds: an office to meet and collaborate in, and the freedom to work remotely. The new norm is "hybrid," but what does this mean in practice? What are the challenges and opportunities of this form of working, and how can leaders rethink collaboration formats and decision-making? To answer these and many more questions, we have created a module on remote and hybrid collaboration. To learn more and find upcoming workshop dates, visit www.management30.com/module. “What if this life were the paradise we were promised, and we're just squandering it?”-Naval RavikantBeing happy and rich are learnable skills, and our guest today, Eric Jorgenson, has learned from the very best. His compilation of wisdom and winning business strategies from legendary tech innovator Naval Ravikant took the internet by storm, and his unbelievably popular book, The Almanack of Naval Ravikant, holds a prominent place on the bookshelves of rich and happy people all over the world.Even more impressively, though, he's brought these ideas and timeless insights back into the real world again to create the foundations of a legendary career for himself as well. Eric Jorgenson consistently proves the truth and value of this wisdom via his own work and positive example. During our conversation, he holds nothing back and lets us inside two fascinating minds, both his and Naval's.In this episode, we cover:- What it's like working with Naval Ravikant- How to decide which book to read next- Why it's more effective to focus on your trajectory than your current results- Why everything is getting better all the time- Using leverage to get to the point where you're only doing what you want to do- The importance of honing in on your specific knowledge- Allowing your path to unfold organically as the fast track to genuine expertiseOne of the greatest lessons you'll learn in this episode, though, is that where you start off doesn't have to be where you end up. If there's a skill you lack, you can learn it; if there's a big scary problem looming over you, you can overcome it; if you want more out of life, you can have it. About Our Guest:Eric Jorgenson is an entrepreneur, writer, and investor. He is on the founding team of Zaarly, and has been publishing online since 2014. US President Joe Biden recently warned about the possibility of Armageddon. He said “we have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis.” On this episode of Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different, we discuss the current situation in the US and around the world with All In Podcast Rain Man, David Sacks. David Sacks is a legendary entrepreneur, category and company builder, and now venture capitalist. He's the founder of a VC firm called Craft Ventures. He was the founding Chief Operating Officer of PayPal founder and CEO of Yammer, which sold to Microsoft for well over a billion dollars. He has been an early investor in companies like Facebook, Twitter, Uber, SpaceX, Airbnb, Slack, and more. And today, he's also incredibly well known as one of the CO hosts of the All In podcast. So listen in to keep up with current affairs, and you might learn a thing or two on how to prepare for the future. David Sacks on Biden's comment about Armageddon We begin on the recent comments that Biden made about Armageddon. When asked why he thinks Biden's thoughts went that way, David's reply was: “My reaction to this was the man who can't see two steps ahead, suddenly realizes where his policy is leading. We're the ones who have refused to engage in any sort of diplomacy or any sort of negotiated settlement. Our strategy is not to provide them with an off ramp.” – David Sacks But David also thinks that Biden acknowledging this is a step in the right direction. “That being said, I still thought it was incredibly useful for Biden to say what he said, because the first step of getting out of a problem is acknowledging that you're in one.” – David Sacks David Sacks on Tactical Nukes & Risking Nuclear War There has also been talks of using tactical nukes to quickly resolve the situation. David does not agree with this, saying that using nukes at this point just opens up the risk of a nuclear war. “If a tactical nuclear weapon gets used in Ukraine, then the whole world will be different. This thing could escalate very quickly into a larger scale nuclear war. You had Petraeus on the Sunday shows last weekend saying that if Putin uses attack nukes, the US should respond by hitting every Russian military target in Ukraine? Well, again, think two steps ahead. How do you think the Russians would react to that, given that they clearly don't have the military might to stand up to the US in terms of conventional arms?” – David Sacks If countries start using nukes, then it signals that the former agreements against it can be violated with impunity. And that is a dangerous ground to tread. Prediction or Deterrent Returning to Biden's statement about Armageddon, David suggests that, rather than being a prediction, this statement, along with Petreaus', could be interpreted as a warning or deterrent against Russia going nuclear. The problem is that the reasons why the Russians might escalate to the use of nuclear weapons is because they're losing the war by conventional means. Add to the fact that Putin doesn't have an off ramp that lets him keep his reign. Because if he loses this war, or doesn't gain anything significant from it, it is very likely that he will be forced out of office by the public. Putin is pretty much acting like a cornered beast at this point. The scary part is that you don't know what that cornered beast might do as a last-ditch effort to escape.
