I was told, that once I found my "career" my life would be set. Little did I know, how untrue that was! Now, as I embark on my next decade, I am beginning to explore life in transition as an RN who has to start from scratch in a completely different field of work.
When I first heard I was stunned. It wasn't until I found myself writing in my journal, when I realized how hard it hit me. In this episode I share how loosing a RN on the Frontlines impacted me. While I didn't know Kious Kelly, I do know that could have been, and could still be any one of us. My heart and prayers go out to his family, colleagues, and community. There aren't any words that can describe the loss!
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) is teaching us many things about our way of life, if we are paying attention. The way we live does need to change, waiting for other people/entities to make decisions that are in our "best interests" needs to change, we need to be more proactive in our collective caring for ourselves and our communities. No time is this more evident than when disease runs rampant and those that are charged with caring for the masses are not properly protected and cared for themselves. Recently, while watching the news nurse associations across the country began polling their members to understand where and how health care entities were providimg information and protection to nurses. What they found were gross missteps, lack of information, and hospitals staff being left to care for their patients without proper protection. In 2011 it was found that nurses spent an average of 3.1 hrs of their 8hrs shifts interacting with patients. That's approximately 44% of their shift possibly being exposed to patients with communicable diseases.
Being on both sides, positions you to empathize better. In this episode, I share an experience I had recently when I was on the other side, both as a patient and a family member. Those two instances along with the many patient experiences I had (good and bad) were and continue to be my motivation to be the kind of nurse I have evolved into. I hope you enjoy.
As nurses become older, suffer from burnout, and decide the next steps for their career - evaluating where they are vs where they want to be - often times, the next level means stepping away from the very reason they became nurses in the first place. In this episode, I share why I left and the circumstances under which I left.
Last year my RN was up for renewal. There were so many reasons I came up with to not renew, but my husband talked me into doing otherwise. Thanks to my husband, I was able to think through the process and decided to keep my license. During this episode, I discuss how I went through this process, and provide you with a perspective as to how to work through your own process. Enjoy.

This episode fills in where I left off, gives you an idea of what you ca expect as a listener, and sheds some light on how I would love to interact with you. Happy listening & thanks for coming back!

As I have decided to make my health a priority, this mindset has positioned me to also want to be more in tune with my body. Since I was in my teens, I've had gut issues. These issues were exacerbated by nursing school & crop up whenever I'm "stressed". Here I talk a bit about my self discovery as I embark on this elimination diet.
In this episode I talk about the buzzword "consistency". Every has a "walking" definition. I share the dictionary definition and what implementation of "consistency" can look like.
This episode I read an excerpt from Brigid Schulte's "A Woman's Greatest Enemy" (an opinion piece on "The Guardian" ). Also I discuss some of my reading from "Drop the Ball" by Tiffany Dufu. Sharing my experiences as a woman, mom, nurse, and my expectations of myself as a "homemaker".
Recently, I was offered a position to work under someone who is where I want to be. This offer spiraled into thoughts of failure. I discuss my thoughts on this with you and how you can work through those thoughts and feelings.
Frustration is a part of life! When our expectations aren't met we get upset, bent out of shape, and experience disappointment. How it shows up each time is different. In this episode, I talk a bit about the different aspects of oneself and how recognition of those aspects can help you relate to frustration differently.
Life is full of uncertainty, no matter how we try to control it, curve balls will be thrown. When that happens, breathe, give yourself grace & space, then tackle it one spoonful at a time.
Loosing our home, getting ready for the new school year, and a surprising distraction - a wasp colony - all part of perpetual transition.
Sharing my thoughts and experiences about what entrepreneurship is and isn't for me
It's tough letting go of something you've put a lot of time and energy into. When do you and how do you decide to let go? I talk about that in this episode.
I've been in the healthcare field for over 19years. I started as nursing assistant, and over the years, worked my way up to being a RN.
What does transition look like? What lead me to this point? What could transition look like for you? Hear all of these answers and a bit of my story in this episode!
