How can you reclaim your power in a job that's just “good enough”?It turns out The Perfect Job isn't nearly as common as the LinkedIn posts would have us believe. Most of us spend our working hours in a job that's okay but far from perfect. The good news is that you can thrive in a just-okay career if you embrace the art of “leading yourself.” In this episode, I sit down with Elizabeth Lotardo to talk about this very concept, which doubles as the title of her new book, Leading Yourself. Elizabeth has spent years helping people at all different stages of their careers discover the potential that awaits when they stop pursuing perfection and begin taking charge of the job they're already in.Learn to maximize the job you already have by uncovering:The reason we feel like we're failing if we aren't holding out for the perfect job;Why it can be empowering to “give up on the dream” of getting a paycheck from our passionHow small changes in your day-to-day can make a huge difference; And when you might need to phone it in before you fall apart.Related Links:Leading Yourself: Find More Joy, Meaning, and Opportunities in the Job You Already Have (Despite Imperfect Bosses, Weird Economies, Lethargic Coworkers, Annoying Systems, and Too Many Deliverables) - https://bookshop.org/p/books/leading-yourself-elizabeth-lotardo/20999467?ean=9781394238705&next=tElizabeth's website - https://www.elizabethlotardo.com/Follow Elizabeth on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/elizabethlotardoDrop the Ball: Achieving More by Doing Less by Tiffany Dufu - https://bookshop.org/p/books/drop-the-ball-achieving-more-by-doing-less-tiffany-dufu/8440970LEVEL UP: a Leadership Accelerator for Women on the Rise - https://www.bossedup.org/levelupBossed Up Courage Community - https://www.facebook.com/groups/927776673968737/Bossed Up LinkedIn Group - https://www.linkedin.com/groups/7071888/

As we close out Black History Month, we wanted to shine a spotlight on one sector of the population we're truly in awe of: Black female business owners. Although Black women make up less than 10% of the U.S. population, they've emerged as the fastest-growing group of entrepreneurs in the country.  Today we're joined by Tiffany Dufu, president of the Tory Burch Foundation and author of Drop the Ball, to discuss what's fueling the rise of Black women-owned businesses, the biggest hurdles they face, and how we can all use our purchasing power to support them. I am super delighted to have Tiffany Dufu, the President at The Tory Burch Foundation, on for this episode of #29DaysofMagic! 2025! She talks about being a Girl Scout selling cookies, and her first real job which she absolutely hated, but she really learned how helpful it was to learn that people can say no to you over and over but the world doesn't fall apart. She talks about her incredible journey where so many amazing incredible women saw her and invited her into the room and how impactful that has been for her career and starting her own companies. Tiffany talks about the 4 levers of economic opportunity and how the fourth is entrepreneurship and how important that is to help people. She talks about how important the work she is doing at the Tory Burch Foundation is especially in this current climate. She points out that instead of asking the question, "How am I to solve this challenge?" instead she asks "Who is going to help me solve it?" and how important it is especially for women entrepreneurs to remember that this is not a solo journey."We build trust by asking for help, not for offering it," - Tiffany DufuCheck out the Lavender oil She mentioned here: https://www.loccitane.com/en-us/lavender-essential-oil-15HE005L14.html?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAwtu9BhC8ARIsAI9JHakYQOFtck3W7LQ-KpAtBk8W3TC_D6NENUZoNCPYBYlUEDOnOqWzUsIaAnvVEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.dsL'OCCITANE Lavender OilConnect with her here:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tiffanydufuInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/tdufu/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoSIgKTfYRMmBreoNv_8-aALinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tiffanydufu/Personal Website: https://www.tiffanydufu.com/Her Company Website: https://www.weareluminary.com/luminary-crus

We have to build a bigger influence up, down, and across, in all of our relationships.Cate Luzio, the founder and CEO of Luminary, a global professional education and networking platform addressing and impacting the systemic challenges faced by women throughout their professional journeys. Luminary now includes a 22,000 sq. ft. space in NYC and a virtual network. The world still operates differently for boys and girls. Women are smart and capable but often don't fully believe in their abilities. While women are breaking down barriers, many of these barriers are internal. Overcoming imposter syndrome requires an “action-oriented” approach, along with subtle shifts in language and mindset. Using “I deserve” rather than “I need” brings up the confidence and that is crucial for becoming a visible role model who inspires others. Our leadership sets the tone for collective growth and support—finding win-win relationships and moving away from competition with other women is key. Cate's experience with Tiffany Dufu illustrates how competitive situations can turn into opportunities for mutual growth. It is time to embrace your achievements unapologetically, and find a community where you get the support that you need and where you can also provide support for others. Show notes:

Denise Woodard is the Founder and CEO of Partake Foods, the allergy-friendly company that was inspired by her daughter's experience with food allergies.   Created in 2016, Denise started the business by self-distributing (selling cookies out of her car around NYC) and self-funding (depleting her 401K and selling her engagement ring). To date, the company has raised more than $20M from investors including HER, Rihanna, Circle Up Growth Partners, FF2032 and Marcy Venture Partners (Jay-Z's venture capital firm).   Partake was named #45 on the Inc 5000 list in 2022. Denise was the first Black woman to raise more than $1 Million publicly for a CPG food startup.   As a Black woman, Denise is passionate about raising awareness of Black and female entrepreneurship and increasing opportunities for underrepresented people seeking careers in the food and beverage industry. In 2020, Denise founded Black Futures in Food & Beverage, an annual fellowship program that mentors HBCU students and helps them secure internships and jobs at the program's end.   Prior to launching Partake, Denise spent a decade in consumer-packaged goods at various Fortune 100 companies. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Jeremy, and daughter, Vivienne. She graduated with her BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA from Arizona State University. In this episode of Takin' Care of Lady Business®, Jennifer Justice interviews Tiffany Dufu, the founder and CEO of The Cru. They discuss the importance of community and sharing knowledge among women in business and in life. Tiffany explains her mission to advance women and girls and introduces The Cru, a platform that matches women in accountability circles to help them achieve their life goals. They also discuss the importance of seeking help and asking for support to achieve success. Tiffany shares insights from her book, "Drop the Ball: Achieving More by Doing Less," and discusses topics such as asking for help and managing household responsibilities.     Here is what to expect on this week's show: - Overcoming funding obstacles and challenges to launch and grow ventures. - Impressive business growth through hard work and resilience. - Investing in diversity and staying true to mission and values. - The importance of focusing on strengths, understanding customer feedback, and unit economics. Quotes: “It took a long time to build the relationship, and I think that's something that I've learned across my corporate career, but that's also served me well in this role… And so just having patience and remaining consistent has been such a constant theme.” – Denise Woodward “I try not to speak in the jargon, but I catch myself doing it and I think it's one of those mechanisms that makes people feel like they don't belong or that it's so complicated and none of it's like rocket science.” – Denise Woodward “We're really focused on doing good in the world, particularly around eradicating childhood food insecurity and increasing diversity in the food industry.” – Denise Woodward   This episode is sponsored by Medjet. How can we elevate women by connecting and engaging with each other and holding ourselves accountable to our intentions? How can companies who want to attract and retain top talent do the same? I had a great time talking with my guest today, Tiffany Dufu, about her mission to support and elevate women. Tiffany shares her personal story and the mantra her mother used to tell her every day that she hopes to whisper into other women's ears. We discuss The Cru's mission and business model - and how they help women and companies achieve success through support, connection, and accountability. We also talk about why connection is so important to achieving goals (what The Cru calls intentions) and why empathy ensures successful engagement.Tiffany shares how the pandemic has affected women's career goals and why employers and leaders need to understand this new reality and respond accordingly. And she shares 3 tips for connecting across diverse backgrounds that could transform the way your teams get work done. Key Takeaways:If you want something you've never had before, you have to do something you've never done before. Women in the middle (whatever middle means for you in your life) tend to be looking for meaning, advancement, and integration. Limiting choices for women also limits choices for men, which then also trickles down and affects the children in the home. The intention of “finding a new job” doesn't mean leaving an organization. Leaders and employers need to bet on their teams, especially their women, and make clear the opportunities that they have in the organization, within and without their teams.  "We are the most powerful change agents in our own journey." —  Tiffany Dufu  About Tiffany Dufu, Founder & CEO, The CruTiffany Dufu is founder and CEO of The Cru. "Many women spend more on their clothes than they do on an annual vacation, and yet put more strategy on the vacation than the closet." -Sarah Moore Sarah Moore's "3 S" Strategy - Sort, Share, Stop: SORT: First, sort clothing to keep and get rid of, then sort it so you can store it easily in your closet. Sort into Yes, No, and Maybe. Get rid of the No pile. Then makes outfits with the rest. Either get rid of the things that don't make an outfit or commit to buying the other piece(s) you need. Store clothes as outfits so you never have to wonder what you're going to wear. Sort them out and hang them up, but get rid of the ratty things or clothes you won't wear again. Sort everything into categories, like working on it daily or weekly, depending on how much time you have available. Tops, bottoms, sweaters, dresses SHARE: Share the responsibility for laundry with other family members.  Let children help, even if its not perfect. Telling them not to do things when they don't do them perfectly is training them not to help. Only put away the clothes that you wear. Have the other people in your home put away their own clothes. (As long as the kids are old enough) Spouse won't help? Try trading household duties; they can do dishes and you do laundry for example.  If they aren't helping around the house, check out the book, "Drop the Ball," by Tiffany Dufu. It's a great book to help create balance with home chores. STOP: Stop bringing in more clothes so your home doesn't get cluttered again. Stop spending money on things you don't need. Remember the importance of shopping with purpose. Remember - Extra clothing comes into our closet when we didn't really need it, because we bonded with our friends over the experience of shopping for clothes. Bond with your friends at a park or a museum or out to lunch. Have an experience instead of spending money on things you don't need. Stop using spending money on things as your fun, and enjoy experiences instead.  Sarah's other tips: Thinking about "Sunk cost", leads to guilt and shame. If you've spent money, you feel like you need to keep the item so you feel like you haven't wasted the money. You can sell the clothes you don't wear to recoup the cost, or donate them and get a tax write off Get rid of the extra clothes you have "just in case" Get rid of those single socks A word from Sarah: "Hi, I'm Sarah Moore. I've been eliminating chaos since 1989! My left brain discovered a long time ago that it has the mind of a Lego master builder when it comes to filtering out all the busy work and time wasters of a process or project leaving only what is necessary to achieve the desired result. My right brain is a little woo and I believe that everything is energy. My left brain is OK with that because Einstein thought so too. Your thoughts are energy - they are electrical impulses traveling down neurons. Food is energy: plants fix the energy of the sun. But it's really easy to get that energy stuck. Ever had the same song playing over and over in your head all day? Exactly, Stuck energy. When you combine the two halves of my brain you get a project manager who has a laser focus on the critical path: the only bits of a project that actually need to get done to achieve the desired result. Whether that critical path is the a to z of a huge corporate project, a small entrepreneur's project or the pathway to getting dinner on the table with no fuss...I have the ability to cut through the fluff and leave only what truly matters. These days I prefer to work with overwhelmed women who have too much on their plates and piles of stuff threatening to take over their homes. I bring you discipline and simplicity to help you find balance. With a big helping of no excuses tough love too."   "Elegance is Elimination" Cristóbal Balenciaga, Fashion Designer   You can find Sarah Moore: Website: https://www.urbanearthmom.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/urbanearthmom/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/UrbanEarthMom/ FB Page: https://www.facebook.com/UrbanEarthMom Want to connect?
