**Discussion begins at 4:50**2020 will be a year that lives in infamy for our generation.  It is the year the workers were asked to stay home and children asked not to go to school.  It is the year that healthcare workers showing up to work in unprecedented times fighting a virus that they didn't know how to fight.  It is the year of "don't wear a mask and don't worry" to "wear a mask, wash your groceries, and oh my gosh - it could spread through your eyeballs".  It was a pivotal election year.  It was a year with protests and riots were rampant.  It is the year of fear, and hysteria, and TikTok popping off.  And all of that leads back to a pesky virus called SARS-COVID-2, or as people know it - COVID-19.  So where did this virus start?  Is there still controversy over the origin story?  What does the trail of money say?  And mostly, was the government just covering up a huge, colossal mistake?  Let's travel back in time to revisit the story of COVID-19.  Don't worry, no mask is required while listening to this podcast.  Send us a textSupport the showTheme song by INDA

COVID-19 impacted the world. In December of 2019 news reports out of Wuhan, the capital of Central China's Hubei province, detailed the emergence of an atypical pneumonia-like illness that did not respond well to standard treatments. By January 2020 world health officials had identified the 2019 Novel Coronavirus. By February 2020 the World Health Organization had declared the 2019 Novel Coronavirus outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, and by March 2020 the WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. By April 2020, more than 1 million cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed worldwide. Fast forward to 2023, as of late October there have been over 770 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 - almost 10% of the global population.   But it could have been much, much worse.      During the earliest days of the pandemic, hospital systems were flooded with patients and they simply didn't have the capacity to handle the burden of a global population fighting a mysterious new respiratory illness. Supplies were dwindling and they simply could not get enough of the critical devices they needed to treat their patients. While the world was on lockdown scooping up all the webcams and laptop computers it could find, medical device manufacturers were scrambling to keep people alive.    How did Microchip Technology help hospitals fight the COVID-19 pandemic?   Links from the episode: https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/emergency-use-authorizations-medical-devices/covid-19-emergency-use-authorizations-medical-devices   Guests: Justin Wilson

Happy Anniversary to us. Launched on 9 January 2020, The South East Asia Travel Show has reached the 200 episodes milestone. This week, Gary and Hannah reflect on the key travel and tourism issues from the past four years, a large chunk of which was clouded by the pandemic. Within one month of launching, the WHO classified the Novel Coronavirus as a global health emergency, and two months later declared a pandemic. Despite covering travel during a period when very little travel was actually happening in the region, we've been able to interview experts from 18 different countries in South East Asia, Asia Pacific, Europe and North America. We've also covered diverse topics ranging from Ethical Travel to Concert Tourism, Travel Sandboxes to Vaccinated Travel Lanes, and Travel Filmmaking to Tourism Transformation Planning. Along the way, the show has grown its international reach. So far in 2024, our podcast has been downloaded in 73 countries, from the US to India, Thailand to Brazil, Turkey to Ukraine and Morocco to New Zealand. So, please join us to look back across a rollercoaster four-year ride, and our thoughts about the regional travel outlook for 2024 and beyond.

You know that we are Covid-safe folks and advocate for a society that should take the Coco seriously, but there's so much propaganda, misinformation, ignorance and such around the Novel Coronavirus that we've found it very difficult to navigate the world in 2023 and know how to live in a way that protects us and others from a virus that can potentially fuck up your body permanently.A bit ago, we said offhandedly in an intro that if we had any listeners that were epidemiologists, we'd love to ask some questions about what is safe to do these days. See a movie? Go grocery shopping? Leave the house? We have a VERY literate audience, and a number of epidemiologists listen apparently because we got a number of offers. The first person to reach out was one of our guests today epidemiologist Zoe Spieler, a listener, and her friend Michelle Dressner, another epidemiologist.Even though initially, they were just going to answer our questions privately, a lot of listeners reached out and wanted to know the answers as well, so we asked Zoe and Michie if they'd mind us recording the convo and putting it out as a bonus, and they were game! First of all, HUGE THANKS to them for doing this, and second of all, GIANT THANKS TO THEM because not only did they answer our questions, but Zoe and Michie did a broad survey of the scientific literature first! We get into the current state of the scientific consensus around the Coco, what are the current suggested safe procedures, and a lot of other stuff, including why so many people have lost their goddamn minds these days! Last week, Adrian Jones, Daoyu Zhang, Steven Massey, Yuri Deigin, Louis Nemzer, and Steven Quay reported out on an ingenious analysis of genomic datasets from NCBI that indicate a lab in Wuhan was performing potentially risky genetic engineering manipulations on a novel coronavirus that was previously unreported. The manipulation? Inserting a MERS spike protein into a previously unreported coronavirus. MERS has a case fatality rate of over 30%. What is clear from the analysis is that at least one lab in Wuhan was performing risky gain-of-function research on unreported coronaviruses before the pandemic started, the kind that could have created SARS-CoV-2. It also shows that risky GOF research is being conducted in Wuhan that has no identifiable medical benefit, but has the potential to create a pandemic level pathogen. Today I interview Steven Massey, a professor of bioinformatics that has been actively researching the origin of SARS-CoV-2 since the pandemic began and one of the authors of this significant discovery. We discuss the paper, how his team discovered this novel engineered coronavirus from Wuhan, and what it means in the search for the origin of COVID-19...

Freedom Discourse
California to Make Prescribing Ivermectin for Covid a Crime

Freedom Discourse

In what may be the saddest state of affairs we've seen regarding medical tyranny in months, California is pushing forth a bill that would criminalize the prescription of Ivermectin and other drugs for use against Covid-19. They want people jabbed. They want them ventilated. They want them to take Remdesivir instead.Of course, Anthony Fauci is at the center of this even if he's not associated with California Assembly Bill 2098. And it's not just his name behind the government's push for jabs and Remdesivir use. Rumors are he's been working behind the scenes with members of the California legislature to craft the wording properly. This isn't just a California problem, as I detailed in the latest episode of End Medical Tyranny. This will spread to other blue states. And if/when another pandemic pops up, whether it's a new strain of Covid, the Monkeypox, or something we haven't seen yet, they will get some red states to adopt the draconian, anti-science measure as well. Such is the state of affairs in America today.Ethan Huff over at Natural News did a full write-up of the situation. As he puts it, "The system really does not want people using ivermectin, in other words, which suggests that it actually works – otherwise they would not be trying to punish physicians for helping their patients with it."California Legislators Are Trying to Criminalize Doctors Who Treat Covid Patients With Anything Other Than Remdesivir, Ventilators and VaccinesDoctors in California who advise their Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19) patients to take ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), or really anything outside of the "norm" could soon face prosecution under a new proposed law.The California legislature recently introduced Assembly Bill 2098, also known as the "medical misinformation bill," which would criminalize health practitioners who deviate from the state's official position on "safe and effective" remedies for the Fauci Flu.If a doctor tells a patient to take zinc and green tea instead of deadly remdesivir, for instance – Tony Fauci profits every time a patient is given remdesivir, by the way – then he or she could lose the ability to legally practice medicine in the Golden State.Back in April 2020 near the start of the plandemic, the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, the California State Board of Pharmacy and the Medical Board of California all issued a statement regarding the "improper prescribing of medications related to treatment of Novel Coronavirus." One of the treatments mentioned was HCQ, the prescription of which was described as "inappropriate" and "unprofessional."On June 29, 2021, the Federation of State Medical Boards also issued a warning about how "Physicians who generate and spread COVID-19 vaccine misinformation or disinformation are risking disciplinary action by state medical boards, including the suspension or revocation of their medical license."A few months later, Fauci himself came out to claim that there is no evidence that ivermectin works against the Chinese Virus, even though Fauci said the exact opposite back in the early 2000s. It was then, long before covid appeared, that Fauci agreed that ivermectin is a powerful and effective remedy against coronaviruses.Ivermectin Derangement Syndrome is a serious problem in the United StatesIn December 2021, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also chimed in, echoing the same statements made by Fauci and officials in California that people "should not use ivermectin to treat or prevent Covid-19."In an updated statement issued on April 29, 2022, the FDA's Covid-19 Treatment Guidelines Panel added that it "recommends against the use of ivermectin for the treatment of Covid-19, except in clinical trials."The system really does not want people using ivermectin, in other words, which suggests that it actually works – otherwise they would not be trying to punish physicians for helping their patients with it."Should AB 2098 become law, doctors who prescribe medications not approved by the state or who claim unsanctioned drugs are effective would see their licenses revoked and face strict penalties and disciplinary actions by the Medical Board of California," reports The Epoch Times."In short, AB 2098 would designate the dissemination of information not approved by the state related to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes ‘COVID-19,' as misinformation or disinformation, which constitutes unprofessional conduct."One physician by the name of Dr. Syed Haider says that he has been reported to four state medical boards since the plandemic began. Pharmacists, he says, "don't like filling ivermectin prescriptions," and when they are asked to, some of them suffer meltdowns that can only be described as Ivermectin Derangement Syndrome (IDS).Dr. Haider now has to retain a lawyer in order to protect his medical license from being stripped by IDS sufferers who do not want people healing with ivermectin or any other remedy that actually stops the Fauci Flu."‘Official state-sanctioned position' is communism, plain and simple," wrote someone at the Times about how any government holding this much power is a threat to freedom and liberty."Politics has no business in medicine," wrote another, getting straight to the point. The latest news about medical fascism can be found at Tyranny.news.Sources for this article include:TheEpochTimes.comNaturalNews.com This is a public episode. CDC is providing this advance notice for clinical laboratories to have adequate time to select and implement one of the many FDA-authorized alternatives. In preparation for this change, CDC recommends clinical laboratories and testing sites that have been using the CDC 2019-nCoV RT-PCR assay select and begin their transition to another FDA-authorized COVID-19 test. CDC encourages laboratories to consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses. Such assays can facilitate continued testing for both influenza and SARS-CoV-2 and can save both time and resources as we head into influenza season. Laboratories and testing sites should validate and verify their selected assay within their facility before beginning clinical testing.

In this clip, you'll hear what John learned from Louis Ignarro, who had a key role in the discovery of nitric oxide. When you breathe in through your nasal passage, nitric oxide is formed, keeping viruses at bay.  Nasal breathing will mean the difference between life or death for some people with the novel coronavirus. Nitric oxide opens up airways so you can breathe easier; it opens up arteries so blood gets pumped easier, and in turn you get greater oxygenation of the blood. Press play to learn all about it in this week's mini-sode!

We talk with Dr. Peter Chin-Hong from University of California, San Francisco about his expertise as an infectious disease clinician on the novel coronavirus and COVID-19. We'll talk about the current state of the pandemic in California, around the country, and in the world at-large. We also get into what's happening with the vaccines (including the FDA approved Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine that uses mRNA to rewire a genetic trigger to the viral proteins) as well as other therapeutics, pandemic fatigue, and how holiday travel might work as other get togethers. But we didn't just talk about the biology or healthcare. We also talked about how Peter — or as his students call him, PCH, which are his initials as well as California's famous Pacific Coast Highway — got interested in medicine while he was growing up in Trinidad and Tobago. We also talked about racism is a public health concern and how Twitter provided not only community for him this year but also a way to learn from others in the larger medical community. Stay tuned until the end of the episode for a funny bit waxing about technology problems while recording. Special Guest: Dr. Peter Chin-Hong.

We pre-recorded our conversation today over Zoom with Robbie Kidd, Shenandoah University professor and Chair of Biopharmaceutical Sciences to talk about Shenandoah University's Pooled Saliva Testing for Novel Coronavirus that will allow the school to expand its surveillance testing. Shenandoah University is conducting its own SARS-CoV-2 surveillance testing through the use of pooled saliva samples, making it only one of a handful of universities in the country to do so. The university has been doing surveillance testing for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, since the start of the academic year, beginning with the testing of incoming residential and commuter undergraduate students and continuing last month with select undergraduate populations.  Now, through Shenandoah University's Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy, the university is expanding its SARS-CoV-2 surveillance testing program for asymptomatic individuals through pooled saliva samples, especially in high-contact populations such as student-athletes, residential students and conservatory students. Shenandoah joins the likes of Stanford and Syracuse universities in conducting pooled saliva testing. Robbie walked me through how the tests are conducted and what happens if there is a positive result on one of the pooled tests. This will ensure a higher degree of safety on SU's campus for students and faculty which I discussed with Mitch Moore in early August 2020. Saliva is a less-expensive, non-invasive, and safer sample collection method compared to nasopharyngeal swabs. Viral loads are also higher in saliva compared to nasal swabs. Shenandoah University performed its first round of surveillance testing using pooled saliva the week of Sept. 14. To date, Shenandoah has tested more than 800 students using this method, and more than 2,000 students total (saliva and nasopharyngeal combined). Surveillance testing is used to monitor for the incidence and prevalence of a community- or population-level occurrence of COVID-19, such as an outbreak. This involves randomly sampling asymptomatic individuals. The entire process is contactless, takes fewer than five minutes to complete, and is free of charge. Testing results can be returned in as few as six hours. Robbie estimated that 40-45% of those infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus are asymptomatic, yet most are still infectious and can spread the virus to others. The goal(s) of the program are to identify the asymptomatic carriers, refer them for diagnostic testing, isolate them to prevent the spread of the virus, and to take care of these individuals while they convalesce. This will ultimately help keep Shenandoah University and the surrounding community safe during this pandemic. Shenandoah can currently test 320 students, faculty or staff each week, and expects to increase that number significantly in the weeks ahead.

"My research interests include the genetics of cancer disparities including breast and prostate, mental health issues like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and its co-morbidites, and pharmacogenomics." Co-Host: Dr. Maurice Dolberry, PhD - Multicultural Education "I conduct research and report on it in ways that not only reach, but include people at the grassroots level as well. Public scholarship challenges the idea that there are “researchers” and “subjects”, and the former do experiments on the latter. As a public scholar, I work with people who need my help and together we design ways to test, analyze, and report what we learn. Everyone is equally invested and represented, and the results are useful to everyone, rather than stashed away in the Ivory Tower… in a journal no one reads… in language no one understands!" --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theblackfuturist/message

Michigan State University President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D. has restructured the administration of the colleges of Human Medicine, Nursing and Osteopathic Medicine, as well as the university's health clinics, to be better aligned in patient care, education and research.   The change included promoting Norman J. Beauchamp Jr. to the new position of executive vice president for health sciences overseeing the colleges of Human Medicine, Nursing and Osteopathic Medicine as well as clinical practices.   Beauchamp is leading MSU's response to the novel coronavirus outbreak.  “We need to take this very seriously,” says Beauchamp. “Sometimes in trying to give people optimism, we lose the fact that part of the reason for optimism is that if we take it seriously and adhere to the recommendations, that's when we can be optimistic that we will have a good outcome.   “This is very different from an optimism that would cause people not to take this seriously. Then you will need to be very concerned because we won't have the type of success some communities have had in the battle against the coronavirus.”  Beauchamp encourages us all to perform random acts of kindness in these perilous times to help assuage the fear, anxiety, and worry many citizens are feeling. He says he's struck by how the community is coming together.  “We're bringing together all those involved in providing health care and making sure we're all using best practices and working together. And we're mobilizing strengths across the university, like our top ranked supply chain program. How do you get resources to people when they need them?”  Beauchamp touts the volunteerism ethos MSU students and the “desire to give back” they're showing in the community. And he credits university physician Dave Weismantel, MSU IQ leader Chris Contag, and Jeff Dwyer's team at MSU Extension, among many others, for their efforts in coming together to battle the virus.  He talks about interacting with the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP), the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce, Sparrow, McLaren and many others.  “One of the key things that a university is designed to do is to serve the community. It's been inspirational how people have come together in difficult times. LEAP and the Chamber came together with MSU to bring together the community's strengths to solve some of the challenges we're facing. It's really been a wonderful coming together.”  Dr. Beauchamp describes planning efforts to establish drive-through testing on campus and the potential to use dorms, Kellogg Center, and athletic facilities as field hospitals.   “When this comes, Spartans will be ready. I'm really pleased that we're getting way out in front of this.”  Beauchamp celebrates food industry workers and emphasizes the importance of following the guidelines. He talks about the development of telehealth, which can help diagnose and treat COVID-19.   And he wants us all to have hope.  “Our community and state have done a really terrific job responding. Adhere to the guidelines, be kind and thoughtful to each other, and volunteer when you can. We will absolutely come through this on the other side as a community.   “And our community should know that MSU is working really hard to support the community, which is really the call of a university.”  MSU Today airs Sunday mornings at 9:00 on 105.1 FM and AM 870. In this week's episode of Podcast from Washington, Government Affairs team members Ian Goldstein and Eli Briggs discuss the recent outbreak of Novel Coronavirus from China. They also cover this year's NACCHO 360 conference in Denver, July 7–9, and the CDC's rollout of the Active People, Health Nation Initiative, designed to help 27 million Americans become more physically active by 2027. Later in the program, Emily Yox, NACCHO's program analyst for global health, sits down with America Bracho, MD, MPH, of Latino Health Access, and Ginger Lee of Long Beach Department of Health & Human Services. America discusses how she formed Latino Health Access in 1993 as one of the first place-based interventions in the United States. This program uses Promotores or community health workers, to help improve health outcomes among Latinos in Santa Ana. As the program began to grow, America partnered with Ginger and the local health department on a number of initiatives, and they continue to see improvements in areas such as diabetes, mental health, and nutrition.
