What do young farmers in Siaya need and what can the political sector do to improve their situation? Nichodemus Solomon, President Siaya County Youth Forum discussed this question with George Saitoti and Mark Oganyo from the Ministry of Agriculture, Siaya County. Together, they also analyzed the development since the Western Kenya Youth Agribusiness Conference that took place in 2018. At the conference, three youth farmer associations handed over a declaration to the Ministry of Agriculture that asked for changes to facilitate their role in farming and agribusiness. In Western Kenya, many farmers are struggling to make a living. This is especially true for youth that are struggling to aquire land and to voice out their needs in public. The solution to this is to analyze your soil and to protect it from eroding and depleting. This pays for itself very quickly.
