Our guest this week is thought partner and business coach Maggie Gentry. Maggie works with whom she calls “high conscious entrepreneurs” (folks who use their businesses as a platform to create the change they want to see in the world.) by helping them create systems for businesses that feel good in their body, and support that vision for societal change.A recovering people pleaser, Maggie goes deep in talking about naming & owning our wanting; about how responding to our desires helps us untether from the needs, stories, and expectations of others; what it means to run a service-based business as an introvert; and the ways in which stepping into a bigger game for her business meant getting serious about creating a morning routine that truly nourishes and supports her body & soul.We touch on Alanis Morrissette as self-care, about the evolution of her journaling practice into a truly intimate dialogue with her true self, and about the Goldilocks approach to self-care and ritual, meaning to keep experimenting until you find something that is “just right.” Maggie is also an avid reader, and this episode is filled with great reading recommendations. There were so many moments in this conversation where I needed to pause and savor the depth of what Maggie was sharing. I know you’ll love her as much as I do!Resources & references mentioned in this week’s episode include:“Writing is like driving at night in the fog. There’s nothing quite like broken bones & surgery to derail a podcast production schedule that is in its infancy, but we have persisted, and the podcast is back this week!I’m so thrilled to share this conversation with Bear Hebert. Bear (they/them) is a countercultural life coach, business consultant, and social justice educator. Their work helps humans bring their lives in greater alignment with a vision for liberation. We talk about being “right-sized,” meaning how to take up adequate space in a world of intersecting systems of oppression; about the importance of employing a diversity of tactics when working towards liberation & social justice; and about imperfection and not throwing people away (including ourselves!) when they mess up.Bear also shares candidly about their journey away from yoga and towards a simpler, more personally authentic spiritual practice.Bear is such a wonderful human who is doing amazing work in the world. Their next session of Undoing Patriarchy, an 8-week course designed for men who are trying to subvert patriarchy while also trying to survive it, starts on March 3rd. Please widely share & support their work!If you liked this week’s episode, would you please consider helping spread the word by doing one (or more!) of the following:-take a screenshot of your phone while listening, share to your stories, and tag @yinyogamagic @bearhebert_ and I so we know you’re listening!-subscribe on Spotify and/or iTunes-leave a 5-star review to help other people find the podcast! Some of the resources & references we mentioned include:Dr Beverly Danielle Tatum’s work on diversity as a result of committed liberation work. The article White Supremacy Culture by Tema OkunDr Brene Brown’s book, The Gifts of ImperfectionSarah M Chappell, Fanny’s business mentorSummary of Stages of Racial Identity Developmentbell hooksAlternate RootsFind Bear at bearcoaches.com, undoingpatriarchy.com, and on IG as @bearhebert_Read more about Bear’s journey away from yoga (and why maybe you should, too) here.Subscribe!Spotify | iTunes

    Ep 2: Sarah M. Chappell

This week I am talking with business coach and tarot mentor Sarah M. Chappell. Full disclosure: Sarah has been my business coach for the last several months and she is seriously the (not-so) secret sauce to my getting crystal clear on my messaging, and finally examining & replacing the self-limiting beliefs that have kept me tripping all over my self and not growing towards the impact and income I want. I am so so grateful to her and her work, so I was extra excited to chat with her about the ways she tends to herself as a human first, which then ensures that her business is thriving. We get into all kinds of cool discussions: the importance of personal agency in how we create change in our businesses, and how the change we create in our businesses fuels change for the greater good; how self-care as a business owner means working with structures and making our schedule work for us; and how worthiness informs the choices we make daily about how we care for ourselves.Sarah is candid about the lessons she gleaned from an injury she sustained in the fall, and how it ultimately worked to serve her business because of the meaning she gave to the circumstance. She talks about the challenges and the gifts of being embodied, and what taking care of herself as a business owner means embracing a judgement-free approach to self-care. She also talks how she uses tarot, and how she uses it to coach herself out of old stories and old ways of thinking that are no longer serving her. And her sweet pup Bea makes a guest appearance! If you enjoy the episode, please take a screenshot and share it on IG by tagging @sarahmchappell and me; subscribe; and leave a 5-star review! I am grateful for your help in making sure this podcast reaches more people!

This week, I am talking with my dear friend Megan Dowd (she/her). Megan is a narrative strategist, biz mentor, and self-described compassionate hardass. She is the creatrix of the #humanfirstbizsecond hashtag campaign, and helps entrepreneurs get super clear about their values so they can build a business that feels good and does good.We talk about the intersection of self-care and systems & structures for entrepreneurs, about mental health challenges; about the role of connection (and voting in your local elections!) in the work of liberation; and the importance of seeking out therapy and doing your own inner work when running a business. We also talk about Megan’s fave bath hacks, the evil of underwire bras, and sweatpants manifesto. Truly we’re covering all angles here.Megan is one of my favorite people and this chat was rich, deep, and hilarious—which is exactly how she is. While podcast technology won’t allow you to see how lit up and animated she gets when talking about her work, you can feel the jazz hands as you listen.Human First, Biz Second campaign going live on IG Jan 14-16, Get the deets here: https://humanfirstbizsecond.com/Check out Megan’s amazing work here: https://withmegandowd.com/
