Erin Fairchild (she/her) is the founder of Journal As Altar and Collective Action Consulting. She has been making meaning through journaling and paper craft practices since she was tiny - nourishing her spirit and uncovering her creative voice. Erin is white, and chooses to betray whiteness. She will be in a life-long relationship with what that looks like. Lately, that looks like untangling herself from binary and supremacy thinking and elevating what's possible when we center collective well-being and our potential outside of oppressive norms. A few years back, Erin realized that her journals acted as altars in her life, and that felt powerful; Journal As Altar was born. Teaching creative journaling workshops, designing and selling stationery products, and running the Journal As Altar Substack community are endlessly affirming. Erin is also a social worker and (not currently practicing) therapist with expertise related to childhood trauma, attachment, and preventing violence in systems, communities, and families. Erin continues to work in the fields of equity centered trauma informed care and violence prevention over at Collective Action Consulting. Erin knows that your journals can hold you, but they hold nothing against you. Erin's favorite duet: Aretha Franklin and George Michael, "I Knew You Were Waiting For Me" Fanny Priest is a trauma repair & grief coach; a queer, polyamorous & liberated fat femme; a rainbow forest witch; a Sagittarius sun, Cancer moon, Taurus rising; and an aspiring Guns N' Roses cover band drummer. She helps healers, feelers, queers, and creatives repair the rupture in the relationship with their wild, true nature so they feel safe with their bodies, feelings, and needs, and can transform their old survival patterns of protection into liberatory patterns of connection. Fanny's favorite duets are Leather & Lace by Stevie Nicks & Don Henley, and (I've Had) The Time Of My Life by Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes. You deserve to feel safe. Trauma awareness is at an all time high. Or, more accurately, the use of the word has become extremely common. But that doesn't mean we have a strong working understanding of the different types and definitions of trauma and how they may impact our daily lives. So, what is trauma? … Continue reading "Episode 182: Developmental Trauma with Fanny Priest"

On today’s episode, the squad will be discussing Ethical Non-Monogamy, a topic that frankly neither of us are fully informed on, but want to understand in more depth. This podcast is constantly tackling the avoided conversations. The ones that bring about discomfort and help us face the bias and unlearning we still need to unearth. As parents we value inclusivity and want our children to live in a world where “othering” can shift and compassion and community can lead us closer to our humanity. We are thrilled to have our friends/colleagues Scout Chavers and Fanny Priest joining us to share their wisdom around today’s topic. We encourage you to listen with an open heart and mind and learn alongside us :) Scout is a yoga teacher, social justice doula and educational facilitator in Austin, TX. Emerging from a lineage of caregivers Scout had a natural and holistic way of grounding others through her teaching and hands-on social justice work. She uses her education and background in prenatal/postnatal yoga, yin yoga, the biology of birth, life and death. Resources: Scout Chavers: Wild Awake Wellness Fanny Priest: Yin Yoga Magic
Our guest this week is thought partner and business coach Maggie Gentry. Maggie works with whom she calls “high conscious entrepreneurs” (folks who use their businesses as a platform to create the change they want to see in the world.) by helping them create systems for businesses that feel good in their body, and support that vision for societal change.A recovering people pleaser, Maggie goes deep in talking about naming & owning our wanting; about how responding to our desires helps us untether from the needs, stories, and expectations of others; what it means to run a service-based business as an introvert; and the ways in which stepping into a bigger game for her business meant getting serious about creating a morning routine that truly nourishes and supports her body & soul.We touch on Alanis Morrissette as self-care, about the evolution of her journaling practice into a truly intimate dialogue with her true self, and about the Goldilocks approach to self-care and ritual, meaning to keep experimenting until you find something that is “just right.” Maggie is also an avid reader, and this episode is filled with great reading recommendations. There were so many moments in this conversation where I needed to pause and savor the depth of what Maggie was sharing. I know you’ll love her as much as I do!Resources & references mentioned in this week’s episode include:“Writing is like driving at night in the fog.
