Life is a labyrinth that I’m attempting to navigate, but I can’t do it alone so come and join the journey! Let’s dive straight in and talk all things health; mental, physical and emotional. I’m a massive advocate for breaking down the barriers, boundaries and stigmas surrounding mental health. I’m a…
VULNERABILITY What is it about being vulnerable that scares us so much? Exposure? Weakness? Transparency? Self-consciousness? A fear of being HUMAN? Well news flash, we’re all vulnerable in some way or another and it’s about time that we acknowledge that. A common misconception is that vulnerability equals weakness... ❌ And that is FALSE. ❌ BUT weakness is avoiding the acceptance of that vulnerability... So, when you embrace your vulnerabilities, you not only become self-empowered and confident, but you attract what I shall dub the “4Ps”: - positivity - people - possibilities - progression And most of all... It makes you INVINCIBLE.
So Instagram has done the dreaded deed and wiped their platform of ‘like’ counts for a handful of countries across the globe. What does this mean? How will this affect us? How is it affecting me? I admit to some of my own insecurities around self-esteem and how likes have affected that. I also take into consideration the concerns surrounding the broad consequences that this update will have on influencers, models, B2B/B2C businesses, brands and ‘grammers’ overall.
From the moment we are born, we imprint people into our brains and hold certain individuals in high regard. As we get older, we begin to form opinions on which of those people we most aspire to be, idolise them and then turn them into role-models. They can be prolific strangers who we have never met like David Attenborough (my childhood role-model and an outright GOD); or individuals who have formed/form part of our personal lives like family members, close friends or that super supportive and inspirational teacher from 3rd Grade/Year 3. BUT should we really regard these people as our role-models and attempt to embody all that they do and stand for? OR is there another MORE effective solution and MORE incredible person out there? I may just have the answer...
Welcome back! As promised, here is my next segment in the Change mini-series. This time I focus on how change has affected ME; essentially, my own experience of ‘change’. Change can be positive or negative, like I express throughout, and for me manifested in the mental, physical and emotional forms. Whether it was change in my fitness, change in my mental health or change in social life; I dive right into my past and unravel how change has shaped who I was and am today. Enjoy!
CHANGE - What makes that word so scary? What holds us back from approaching it? Change, movement and shifts play integral parts in our lives. As Marcus Buckingham expresses in the Good Life Project podcast he features in that I briefly mention (Good Life Project ep. #512 for anyone interested); “Everything is in process, everything is in movement....health is movement... we move through life...” So if changing is living, why do we avoid it and does that mean we are holding back on harnessing our potential and on living life to the FULL potential? Find out in this podcast what I think and what’s in store for this mini-series of Soul Cast!
Hello and welcome back to an extension of my Body Commentary podcast where I question the effects body commentary has on people and on society. In this episode (that I tried recording THREE (3) times - for reasons you will discover in the podcast or on Instagram) I talk about how body commentary permeates social media specifically on Instagram. I compare the areas of the recovery community to the pro-Ana (*shudder*) cults and then finally to the general Insta-influencer side. I ask; How does it present? How does this affect the receiver of this comment? How does this affect the giver of this comment? And overall how does it aid in endorsing diet culture and body-objectification?
In this episode of Soul Cast I will discuss over the course of a few segments the act of commenting on someone’s body. Is it OK? Why do people do it? What are the consequences? I start off by addressing my own current experience of being on the receiving end (and once upon a time, the giving end) of these comments.
A comment on Triple J’s ‘Hack’ news article on the blurry boundaries between fasting and eating disorders. I discuss my experience with intermittent fasting; question the social media buzz surrounding it; and ask whether Intermittent Fasting and Fasting in general is a recipe for an eating disorder/ disordered eating, or is it actually harmless?
Trialling the ins and outs of ‘Anchor’ and the podcast format as a whole. Trials seem to be the way to go at the moment when it comes to figuring out what works for me and what doesn’t. I am naturally quite a passionate speaker so I have high hopes that podcasting will indeed be something to add to my repertoire! In this podcast I give a little intro to ‘Seedling Soul’ and what I hope to achieve in this super exciting new journey of mine! Enjoy!
