Prayer & Fasting - Ps Jordan Keehan - 13/02/2026 by
Jesus's time in the desert fasting and praying are a model for how to live Lent well. If we understand the opportunity that Lent presents us, we will be more engaged and committed in our Lenten practices. This will yield great fruits in our interior life.
By David Rains - Examples from the bible on fasting is one of our spiritual tools that we should use.

This episode covers: • Mic-628 Could Reset Your Body Clock and Cut Jet Lag in Half A new circadian drug candidate, Mic-628, has demonstrated the ability to shift the body's internal clock and significantly reduce jet-lag recovery time in early human studies. In controlled simulations, participants experienced faster realignment of their sleep-wake cycles and improved daytime performance compared to standard approaches like melatonin and light timing alone. Dave explains how this compound targets a core clock pathway, why eastbound travel is biologically harder than westbound, and how pharmacologic chronotherapy could become a serious performance tool for frequent travelers and shift workers. He also connects circadian alignment to obesity, insulin resistance, cardiovascular risk, and cognitive decline, outlining what this breakthrough could mean if safety data continues to hold. • Source: https://www.sciencedaily.com/news/top/ • Late-Life Depression May Signal Parkinson's or Dementia New research from Shanghai Jiao Tong University found that new-onset depression in older adults is strongly associated with increased risk of Parkinson's disease and dementia. Dave reframes this finding as a brain health signal rather than a purely psychiatric issue, explaining how inflammation, microglial activation, vascular health, and neurodegeneration intersect with mood changes. He breaks down why sudden depression in someone with no prior history may warrant deeper cognitive testing, sleep evaluation, and metabolic screening instead of simply prescribing an antidepressant and moving on. This story highlights the importance of treating mood shifts as early biological data in a longevity framework. • Source: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/02/260210040623.htm • Speed-Training Brain Games Reduced Dementia Risk by 25 Percent The long-running NIH-funded ACTIVE trial found that a specific speed-of-processing training program reduced dementia incidence by roughly 25 percent over two decades. Unlike memory or reasoning exercises, this visual processing speed protocol produced measurable long-term protection. Dave explains why reaction time and processing speed may be core capacities tied to cognitive resilience, and how structured brain-training programs descended from this research can be treated like strength training for the mind. Instead of vague advice to “stay mentally active,” this data supports building deliberate, trackable cognitive training into a midlife longevity plan. • Sources: – NPR summary: https://www.npr.org/2026/02/09/nx-s1-5702423/modest-mental-exercise-can-reduce-risk-of-dementia-for-decades-study-finds – Psychology Today analysis: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/build-your-brain/202602/new-study-means-the-age-of-dementia-prevention-begins-now • Moderate Coffee Intake Linked to Slower Brain Aging A large analysis of roughly 130,000 participants found that moderate coffee consumption, about one to three cups daily, was associated with markers of slower brain aging and lower dementia risk. Dave explains why moderate, morning-weighted caffeine intake may align acute performance benefits with potential long-term brain protection. He breaks down the dose curve, why more is not necessarily better, and how to use coffee strategically without compromising sleep or circadian rhythm. Rather than framing caffeine as either a miracle or a villain, this study supports intelligent, personalized dosing as part of a broader brain-health stack. • Source: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-026-00409-y • Kratom Crackdowns and the Future of Supplement Freedom Regulators are tightening restrictions on high-potency kratom derivatives such as 7-hydroxymitragynine, with new bans and stricter warning requirements emerging at the state level. The FDA continues to treat kratom and its concentrated derivatives as unapproved drugs with opioid-like effects, while local jurisdictions are targeting specific formulations linked to adverse events. Dave breaks down how this represents a broader shift in how edge-case compounds are regulated, why supply volatility and underground markets can increase risk, and what this means for biohackers who experiment with gray-area tools. He also explains how evolving enforcement strategies could shape future access to peptides, nootropics, and other advanced compounds. • Sources: – Kansas City coverage: https://www.kshb.com/news/local-news/strong-high-weak-laws-7-oh-ban-kratom-regulation-moves-forward-in-kansas-city-missouri – Florida policy coverage: https://www.wgcu.org/health/2026-02-04/kratom-advocates-tout-its-properties-but-legislators-want-strict-warnings-about-the-herbal-supplement – Legal landscape analysis: https://www.lumalexlaw.com/2025/10/09/kratoms-legal-future-how-states-and-the-federal-government-are-responding/ – FDA background: https://www.fda.gov/news-events/public-health-focus/fda-and-kratom All source links are provided for direct access to the original reporting and research. On Ash Wednesday, we're forced to confront our mortality in a culture that is afraid to talk about death. Peter Walsh, Elizabeth Garnsey, and John Kennedy discuss why this seemingly gloomy occasion is actually one of the most uplifting. Plus, they contemplate what we're attached to and detached from, what giving looks like despite our means, what kind of masks we wear, and how we can reclaim/rethink our reasons for fasting. Questions for Further Discussion:Themes and ApplicationJesus warns against practicing righteousness “to be seen.” In what ways does our culture train us to live performatively?Fasting was described as “detachment that leads to attachment.” What might fasting free you from? What might it open you toward? What does it mean that “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”? How does that statement function as both invitation and warning?Personal ReflectionWhat reward are you secretly hoping for in your spiritual practices: recognition, reassurance, control, belonging? Is there a form of fasting (from food, criticism, noise, distraction, self-judgment) that might deepen your attention to God?If Lent is a season of spiritual medicine, what might God be inviting you to examine or release this year?Broader Spiritual ConsiderationsFasting, prayer, and almsgiving were historically communal practices. What would collective fasting look like in a modern parish or society?Ash Wednesday paradoxically brings relief and joy. Why might naming mortality feel freeing rather than depressing? What role does humility play in spiritual awakening? Sardines are one of the most nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory foods you can eat, but does eating only sardines actually count as fasting? On today's show, I break down the growing trend of "sardine fasting," explain why it's gaining popularity, and clarify the key differences between true fasting, fasting-mimicking diets, and simply following a low-calorie, high-protein plan. You'll learn why sardines, while incredibly healthy, do not lower IGF-1 or activate AMPK, why that matters for longevity and autophagy, and when a sardine-only day may—or may not—make sense depending on your goals. Today's Uncertainties Call for a Deepening Personal Relationship with God Through Prayer, Fasting, and Listening MESSAGE SUMMARY: There are times when you need clarity, understanding, knowledge, and insights from the Lord about the specific issues that you are facing. The Lord will speak to you, but sometimes it takes your listening and fasting to hear Him. For example, when Joel received a Word when the land was to be destroyed, he called a fast (i.e. Joel 1:14): “Consecrate a fast; call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD.”. Some things you are facing in your life must be dealt with by both prayer and fasting. Fasting releases a spiritual power – in your weakness, God is made strong in your life. Daniel's prayer, from Daniel 9:3-5, provides a context for asking direction from God: “Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the LORD my God and made confession, saying, ‘O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and rules.'". After Jesus responded to the Apostles request of “teach us to pray” by providing the “Lord's Prayer”, Jesus instructed the Apostles and us, in Matthew 6:17-18, how to fast: “But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.". Our fasting will be rewarded as a deepening link to God in our personal relationship with Him. TODAY'S PRAYER: Father, I confess that when difficulties and trials come into my life, large or small, I mostly grumble and complain. I realize the trials James talks about are not necessarily “walls,” but they are difficult to bear, nonetheless. Fill me with such a vision of a transformed life, O God, that I might actually consider it “pure joy” when you bring trials my way. I believe, Lord. Help my unbelief. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 94). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Lust. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Perfect Provision. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): Joel 1:13-16; Matthew 6:16; Daniel 9:3-7; Psalms 114:1-8. In this podcast episode, an in-depth discussion is provided on the drug Telmisartan, commonly used for lowering blood pressure. The host elaborates on how it belongs to a class of medications known as angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) and stands out due to its 24-hour half-life and partial PPAR-gamma agonist activity. The episode explores Telmisartan's potential benefits for longevity, including its properties that reduce cardiovascular mortality, renal decline, and metabolic issues. Renaissance English History Podcast: A Show About the Tudors
Late February was one of the hardest times of year in Tudor England. Food stores were running low, the weather was damp and cold, and spring still felt far away. But in the middle of that hungry season came Shrovetide, a brief burst of pancakes, games, and noise before the long fast of Lent began. In this video, we spend a day inside a Tudor household at the end of winter. From thin pottage and smoky hearths to Shrove Tuesday pancakes and rough village football, this is what the season actually looked like for ordinary people. We'll follow the rhythm from the final feast of Shrovetide into the quiet first days of Lent, when the tables grew plainer and the long wait for spring began. If you'd like to experience this season in a more reflective way, you can join The Tudor Spring: A 40-Day Sanctuary, a gentle, history-based journey through Lent with daily stories, music, and reflections:https://heatherteysko.thrivecart.com/the-tudor-spring-a-40-day-sanctuary/ #TudorHistory #Shrovetide #DailyLifeHistory #Lent #SocialHistory Learn more about your ad choices. Can fasting actually weaken cancer — and make chemotherapy work better? In this episode of Integrative Cancer Solutions, Dr. K sits down with longevity and nutrition science pioneer Dr. Joseph Antoun to break down the emerging research on fasting, fasting-mimicking diets, and precision nutrition for cancer. Dr. Antoun explains why cancer thrives on growth signals, how traditional “eat more calories” advice may backfire, and what the science really says about starving cancer while protecting healthy cells. This conversation explores fasting-mimicking nutrition before chemotherapy, immune rejuvenation, autophagy, growth factors like insulin and IGF-1, muscle preservation, and why food-as-medicine may dramatically improve treatment tolerance and outcomes. If you or someone you love is navigating cancer — or wants to reduce risk through longevity-based nutrition — this episode delivers critical, science-backed insights you won't hear in a standard oncology visit.Key Takeaways:0:00 Introduction and why nutrition matters in cancer6:10 Starving cancer while protecting healthy cells9:20 Fasting-mimicking diets vs water fasting12:45 How fasting sensitizes cancer to chemotherapy16:30 Immune system rejuvenation and autophagy explained21:00 Nutrition strategies after cancer treatment for longevityResources Mentioned:L-Nutra / ProLon® Fasting Mimicking Diet - https://www.l-nutra.comL-Nutra Health – Diabetes & Nutrition Programs - https://www.lnutrahealth.comThe Longevity Diet by Valter Longo - https://www.valterlongo.comCREATE Cures Foundation (USC Longevity Clinics) - https://createcures.org -----------------------------------------------A Better Way to Treat Cancer: A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding, Preventing and Most Effectively Treating Our Biggest Health ThreatGrab my book here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CM1KKD9X?ref_=pe_3052080_397514860 Unleashing 10X Power: A Revolutionary Approach to Conquering CancerGet it here: https://store.thekarlfeldtcenter.com/products/unleashing-10x-powerPrice: $24.99100% Off Discount Code: CANCERPODCAST1 Healing Within: Unraveling the Emotional Roots of CancerGet it here: https://store.thekarlfeldtcenter.com/products/healing-withinPrice: $24.99100% Off Discount Code: CANCERPODCAST2-----------------------------------------------Integrative Cancer Solutions was created to instill hope and empowerment. What if the line between “medicine” and “forbidden” has nothing to do with safety and everything to do with permission? This episode gives you a clear framework for understanding peptides, research chemicals, and performance enhancement so you can think for yourself instead of outsourcing your biology Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Host Dave Asprey sits down with Dylan Gemelli for a candid, unfiltered conversation about the underground world of biohacking, research chemicals, and human performance. Dylan is a long-time biohacker, educator, and researcher who came out of the bodybuilding world and spent more than a decade studying peptides, SARMs, nootropics, and gray-area compounds. He brings first-hand experience, deep research literacy, and a rare ability to explain what these compounds actually do, where the risks are, and why most doctors will never talk about them. Together, they unpack what “research chemicals” really means, why peptides technically fall into that category, and how legality often has little to do with biological reality. They explore compounds like MK-677, S4, and other SARMs, how they interact with growth hormone, muscle, strength, and recovery, and why some of these tools can be more powerful than peptides when used with intention and restraint. Dave also shares his own experiences rebuilding his health using underground tools, why he refuses to ask for permission to take care of his body, and how performance enhancement fits into longevity, metabolism, and real-world function. You'll Learn: • What research chemicals actually are and why peptides fall into that category • How compounds like MK-677 stimulate growth hormone and affect muscle and recovery • Why SARMs differ from steroids and where the real risks come from • The difference between tobacco and nicotine and why low-dose nicotine can support brain optimization • How performance enhancement fits into longevity, metabolism, and functional medicine thinking • Why strength and neurological drive matter more than size alone • How to think clearly about supplements, nootropics, and biohacking tools without fear or hype • Why taking responsibility for your biology is not cheating Dave Asprey is a four time New York Times bestselling author, founder of Bulletproof Coffee, and the father of biohacking. With over 1,000 interviews and 1 million monthly listeners, The Human Upgrade is the top podcast for people who want to take control of their biology, extend their longevity, and optimize every system in the body and mind. Why Comfort is Slowly Killing You—And the Ancient Mismatch Making You Sick How modern life has turned us into zoo animals—and the simple stress strategy our ancestors used to stay strong, lean, and disease-free. Over the past five weeks, I’ve given you my perspective on the biohacking and longevity scene. I’ve noted the emptiness and time-wasting that can result from the vain pursuit of immortality so often seen in the “advanced” health optimization world (if you missed any of my articles, you can read them here). Episode Summary In this episode, I dive into why chasing biohacking gadgets and anti-aging protocols misses the bigger picture: we're living in an environment our biology was never designed for. I'll reveal the concept of "ancestral mismatch"—how our caveman bodies struggle in our temperature-controlled, food-abundant, movement-starved modern world—and show you how strategic doses of discomfort (hormetic stress) can reverse chronic disease. This isn't about becoming a caveman; it's about getting the basics right that actually move the needle. Question of the Day

Your muscles play a far bigger role in aging than most people realize. As you get older, the energy factories inside your muscle cells begin to break down and stop getting replaced, leading to fatigue, weakness, and slower recovery even if you stay active. This video explains how that decline happens, why it accelerates after midlife, and what actually restores cellular energy instead of just masking the symptoms.By understanding how muscle health, energy production, and recovery are biologically connected, you can rebuild strength, improve endurance, and slow the aging process from the inside out.Chapters0:00 - Intro: The Youth Switch0:53 - Why Muscles Are Your Fountain of Youth2:26 - Mitophagy: Your Body's Cleaning System4:01 - The Secret Compound: Urolithin A6:30 - The Solution: MitoPure8:34 - The Complete System9:56 - Closing ThoughtsThank you to our sponsors!
