Struggling with weight loss in your late 30s or 40s? You're not alone. Perimenopause can throw your metabolism for a loop — such that your usual go-to strategies no longer work (and might even cause perimenopause weight gain). In this episode, I'm joined by Amber Brueseke, founder of Biceps After Babies and MACROS 101, to unpack the real reasons perimenopause weight loss is so challenging — and what to do instead. We dive into:
Send a message/question here!If you've tried fasting for fat loss but found it backfired, you're not alone. While intermittent fasting can be effective, strict 16:8 approaches often don't work well for fasting after 40, especially for men juggling careers, families, and regular workouts.Grab the No Weird Sh*t Diet guide here: https://ovr40.co/noweirdThis episode reveals the real dangers of fasting that affect men over 40 differently than younger guys. From sluggish morning workouts to afternoon energy crashes, rigid eating windows can actually work against your goals. Fasting after 50 becomes even more challenging as recovery needs change and stress tolerance decreases.I break down why fasting for men over 40 requires a different approach than what's typically promoted online. The classic skip-breakfast method often leads to overeating at lunch, poor work performance, and messed-up hunger signals that can sabotage long-term fat loss. But I'm not anti-fasting - I'll show you smarter alternatives that get you all the benefits without the downsides. Instead of forcing yourself into rigid 6-8 hour windows, learn how flexible eating windows work better for busy men while still controlling calories and avoiding evening snacking.Whether you're new to fasting for fat loss or you've struggled with strict intermittent fasting protocols, this approach gives you the flexibility to maintain your energy levels, workout performance, and social life. You'll discover why a 10-12 hour eating window often works better than the popular 8-hour approach, especially when you're training regularly and need proper recovery. The dangers of fasting aren't talked about enough, particularly for active men over 40 who need sustainable approaches that work with their lifestyle, not against it.

If you got one of the COVID shots, you're not stuck. Your body has the ability to detoxify. Where to start, though? Our guest today, Christian Elliot of Healing United, suggests avoiding what he calls "biochemical whack-a-mole". Instead, he recommends that you purify and nourish the body to support its innate detoxing capabilities. He begins by helping us understand what was in the shots in the first place (including 55 undeclared chemicals not on the package insert). He goes over best practices and protocols for detoxing including fasting and lifestyle changes. He also addresses shedding, what supplements he recommends, and how to support the body's innate wisdom and clear its detox pathways. Have you ever considered dry fasting for five days to regenerate your body, or using a pendulum to shift energy and reduce pain? I'm sharing some wild ideas today. I talked with Sean McCormick, host of the Optimal Performance podcast and a human guinea pig for health experiments. We discussed the kettlebell mile, a test of strength and endurance, and how grip strength predicts longevity. Sean shared insights on nicotine as a neuroprotectant and its effects. We explored the deep benefits of dry fasting, including muscle preservation and fat loss. Sean also described using a pendulum to harmonize energy and reduce pain. He shared his experiences with mini-dosing LSD for creativity and focus. I learned about the importance of N of one experiments for personal health journeys. Key takeaways Grip strength is an indicator of longevity, and tests like the kettlebell mile assess both strength and aerobic capacity. A dopamine detox protocol can help reset your body and mental clarity. Dry fasting for multiple days (without food or water) can regenerate the body on a cellular level, preserve muscle, and lead to significant fat loss, reaching deep ketosis and stem cell activation. Nicotine has potential benefits as a neuroprotectant, nootropic, and may offer anti-bacterial or anti-parasitic properties, but it can be addictive and is a vasoconstrictor. Oral TRT offers a different approach to testosterone replacement by providing mini-doses that may not hijack natural production. Herbal supplements, like dried ants, are used in traditional practices for physical strength. Pendulums made of magnetic metals can be used in energy medicine to harmonize energetic points, transmute negative energies, and potentially reduce pain. Microdosing or mini-dosing psychedelics like LSD or psilocybin can enhance creativity, focus, and offer anti-inflammatory effects, and can improve cognition. Conducting "N of one" experiments is a critical and fun way to learn about your own body's response to different health and fitness protocols. Dr. Laursen has coached athletes to 17 world championships, and his research on HIIT, metabolic flexibility, and low-carb nutrition has shaped how athletes and everyday people train for health and performance. On today's episode of The Wholesome Fertility Podcast, I'm joined by Jillian Greaves @jilliangreavesrd, a functional medicine dietitian and women's health expert, to unpack the complex but often overlooked, relationship between blood sugar balance, hormonal birth control, and fertility. Jillian shares her personal health journey from battling persistent symptoms like acne, bloating, anxiety, and hair loss to uncovering the deeper root causes through functional medicine. We dive into how hormonal birth control impacts your hormones, gut, liver, and micronutrient status, and why so many women feel worse when coming off the pill. Jillian also breaks down why managing blood sugar is essential not only for hormone balance but also for egg quality, ovulation, and creating safety in the body. Whether you're navigating post-birth control symptoms, thinking about conception, or simply curious about how nutrition and nervous system regulation influence your cycle, this episode is packed with insights that will leave you feeling empowered and informed. Key Takeaways: Hormonal birth control suppresses your natural hormone cycle and can lead to long-term nutrient depletion, gut imbalance, and inflammation. Coming off the pill is often a bumpy process that requires patience, support, and targeted care. Balanced blood sugar is the foundation of hormonal health and fertility—swings in either direction can create stress signals in the body. Fasting and trendy diets like intermittent fasting may backfire for women, especially those trying to conceive. Nutrition is powerful, but blood sugar regulation also depends on stress management, sleep, and circadian rhythm alignment. Guest Bio: Jillian Greaves @jilliangreavesrd is a functional medicine dietitian and women's health expert who helps women address the root causes of hormonal imbalances, period problems, and fertility challenges. After facing years of frustrating symptoms and inadequate answers from conventional care, Jillian turned to functional medicine to heal her own body and now supports others through a personalized, evidence-based approach. She offers private coaching, advanced lab testing, and practical guidance to help women feel empowered in their health journeys.
